Regardless of what Mr. Flieschaker has to say, public health officials do acknowledge that there are serious oral sex risks. That has already been discussed above. And that's the truth even if both the BBC and I were to be provedwrong about the specific connection between oral sex and oral cancer. The dogmatism of individuals such as Mr. Fleischaker deters objective statements regarding public health issues such as oral sex risks.
And, as already noted, the oral sex question affects not just male homosexuals, but women as well.
That is also true of anal sex. Whether heterosexual or between male homosexuals, anal sex is a primary AIDS risk factor. Mr. Fleischaker's publication contained quite a number of rear photos of naked men--with flabby buttocks seemingly the main feature of interest.

The Word wasn't in the rack near the main entrance to the library--where it might have been noticed by parents or state politicians. Instead it was displayed in an area of the library where there's less foot traffic. So an important lesson was being taught to IUPUI students. The lesson wasn't only about toleration of a publication (that really shouldn't be tolerated, at least not if it encourages unsafe sex.) There was also an important lesson there for students about the tactical advantages of institutional hypocracy.
Mr. Flieschaker e-mail had an aggreived tone, but it wasn't clear whether his sense of being aggreived derived from his being gay--if, in fact he was--or from his simply wanting to make a buck. In the above e-mail, he did come out of the closet with respect to the latter motivation. Mr. Flieschaker also published
Up Down Town, which catered to a different market and had no gay content. Examining his business connections further, we found an interesting link to High Speed Delivery Fork Ltd. We supposed that there could a certain logic there, because one could imagine fork trucks moving around bundles of newly-printed newspapers.
This was evidently less an example of crusading journalism than of business synergy.
In my opinion people should be allowed to clasify themselves as "homosexual," if they wish to do so, without suffering discrimination. It should also be noted that students aren't entirely mature and should be allowed the luxury of social experimentation and of changing their minds about life issues.
But teachers have an obligation to make clear which sexual practices are medically harmful. Instead, it seems IUPUI was being "morally intimidated" so that Mr. Flieschaker could make money. And it seemed that the IU faculty and administration were oblivious to the fact that they were being manipulated in that way.

CONCLUSION:
A college is supposed to act, to some extent at least, in loco parentis. Instead, IU, Chicago and other institutions have been behaving more like parents who were loco. So the situation that's  described here wasnt a good one.
Now, history is an important academic field. It's been said that the problem with Russian history is that it's so unpredictable. But Russians aren't the only ones who can be faulted in that regard. While it's well-known that Nazis persecuted homosexuals in the later stages of the Third Reich, certain other facts aren't included in the current American discussion on that issue.
From a very early period, Hitler hated Slavs and Jews, but that wasn't so with homosexuals. A number of the early Nazi organizers were homosexuals and homosexuality remained a potent sociological factor the later Third Reich.
A longer discussion of this is in my article on male sexuality and may be accessed by the link at left.
So, while certain sexual issues may not matter much to academics, that doesn't mean that they don't have the potential of mattering greatly in the political life of a nation.
Moderation is key to the political health of society, as well as to the health of individuals. While it's to be expected by all that college students will be interested in sexual issues, it may come as a surprise to college students if the institution they attend turns out to be no more than an agent of intellectual seduction and a retailer of questionable merchandise--pills, magizines, etc.--related to that seduction.

"All viruses are male." This is a side issue, but a serious one, and it also involves the University of Chicago.
