FROM LAOH DIVISION 1 VICE PRESIDENT:
EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA
WE ARE MOVING OUR MEETINGS TO THE NORTHEAST
Hello Everyone!
We
Have A New Meeting Place at the RED
ROOSTER!!!! At the last meeting we
agreed and voted to move our meetings to the Northeast area starting in the
Fall. And the reason we are looking to move is that when Maggie & I
agreed to start up a ladies division along with the men we thought that we
could attract a lot of working people who live in the city and we would grow by
leaps and bounds and also there was no other division in the area, well as you
can see we are not doing a good job and that we did not try. We have in the
past held membership drives and even at the Beef n Beer we try to attract new
members and have not been successful. That is the main reason we are looking
move locations.
We
had a meeting at the Red Rooster Restaurant last week and we were “Welcomed with Open Arms.” These ladies were wonderful and they are
willing to do anything to help us.
I believe that after talking to them that we can grow and even
have a place to call “HOME”.
I would like to say "Thank you" to
Bernie & Janny for allowing us to take over their place :)
Directions to the RED ROOSTER:
It is located on Rhawn and Dungan Sts. in the shopping center.
If you are coming from the North you will take the Blvd to Rhawn, make a left,
go 8 lights (CVS on right),
make a left and turn right into the shopping center and it is right there.
It is very easy to get to for everyone.
• Our first meeting is going to on Sept 12th at 7:00pm.
• Our meetings are going to be held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 7:00
pm
MARK YOUR CALENDARS:
On
October 15th we will be celebrating our 4th anniversary
with a mass by Fr Tim followed by an Irish breakfast Fund Raiser from 11 am to
2 pm at the "Rooster" then we will be holding a MEMBERSHIP DRIVE from 1:00pm to 4:00 pm.
Our
next CASINO Trip will be on Saturday,
Nov 25th. We will be leaving from the "Rooster" at 1 PM. We
will be having the table buses again for anyone who wants to play cards again.
We will be serving pepperoni, cheese & crackers & sandwiches, along
with beer, wine, soda & coffee. Remember this is "Thanksgiving
"weekend and the shopping at the Outlets will be very good. For those of you who went last time you will
remember how much fun we had and I hope that you tell some of your friends. The
seating is 4 to a table and this trips sells out fast so get your deposits in
to Ann Marie as soon as possible.
The price is $40.00 pp
with $20.00 back in coin I will need deposits and head counts by Sept 29th.
In January
a Silent Auction..... The sky is the limit here.
I
do believe that we can be successful in the new location. If you get a chance, stop over there for
dinner and check it out. The food is really good and reasonable & on Tues
& Thurs. they have “all you can eat crabs”. And tell your waitress who you are. I truly believe that you will
be happy in our NEW HOME! And check out their website. It is www.redroosteratrhawn.com.
If
anyone has a special charity please lets us know. Call me if you have any questions or concerns. I am at home and
can be reached at (215) 338-2155.
I look forward to seeing everyone soon,
Ann Marie

FROM AOH DIVISION 1 PRESIDENT:
Brothers and Sisters,
My
how the summer did fly. I hope you all had wonderful one! September is annually
a time of the year when we refocus our energies with the start of school at
Roman Catholic and look at putting our yearly schedule together.
To
be honest we have enough on our plates to focus on with HHP and Catholic school
scholarships that I don't know what else we can do without over extending the
membership of the division. That will be up to the membership and whomever is
the board of officers are for the next term. I will have a schedule for the
rest of the fall as soon as possible in September as soon as I clear the dates
with RCHS Administration.
Separate
and apart from the AOH Principle Bob O'Neill at Roman Catholic High School has
me running a new group. The groups name will be "Respect Life."
We will do a lot of the same things that the Jr's have done over the past
couple years making well visits to establishments and will have a large number
of the AOH Jr. membership in the group. The AOH and Respect Life group will be
main players once again in the ProLife Rally at Dilworth Plaza Rally. We have
done a lot of work in the past four years and gained a good reputation in
Center City and the Archdiocese. I hope to see that continue in the future.
Fundraising:
Something to think about men:
Aside from operating and giving money away every year there is an AOH
Convention either county, state or National that we are obliged to send
representatives to support our county state and national officials.
Couple things in the
next couple months:
We are selling ads in
the 2006 -2007 AOH/LAOH Division 1 Ad book. We will produce this book for all the events
we run in 2006-2007. This is 100 %
profit, easy money. Everyone
is encouraged to help with the sales as it will only be as successful as the
help we have putting it together. Two
people cannot do this successfully as in the past and make operating costs for
the Division.
October 7th 2006 Kerr
Scholarship Fundraiser Division 25 Half Ball Tournament.
This year it will be held behind St. Matthews at the intersection of St.
Vincent & Hawthorne Sts. Great
family event!
We
will be looking at a golf outing in early Spring. Committee is needed for this event.
I look forward to
seeing you all in the fall.
Best Regards,
John Riley

Josh Belotti receives skate board scholarship
Josh
Belotti of Marathon is one of seven students nationwide to be awarded a Patrick
Kerr Skateboard Scholarship. Josh was recognized for his efforts in getting a
public skate park in Marathon.
The
2006 recipients of the Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship, the nation's only
college scholarship program for skateboarders, have been selected, and Marathon
resident is one of seven students nationwide to be awarded the scholarship. The
scholarships are awarded to students who have been activists for skateboarding
in their communities.
Josh
Belotti of Marathon will receive a $1000 scholarship presented by the
International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC). Belotti lobbied for a
public skate park in Marathon and was active in all aspects of fundraising and
design.
"The
first time I heard that I was one of the recipients of the Patrick Kerr
Skateboard Scholarship I felt all those voluntary fundraisers and community
service hours really did pay off. When I spoke to Mrs. Kerr and heard the news
that I was chosen nationwide out of 500 skaters I felt privileged and honored.
Skateboarding has challenged me and that has carried over in other areas of my
life. Being involved in my community has helped me to grow up and now I am
being rewarded for it. I plan to attend FKCC and stay involved in the local
skate scene," he said. Belotti lobbied for a public skate park in Marathon
and was active in all aspects of fundraising.
"This
scholarship helps to change the negative stereotype often associated with
skateboarders. Josh was one of seven chosen among over 500 applicants by the
scholarship panel. Josh is a great role model to young skaters in this
community. Throughout high school he has worked hard to maintain good grades as
well as perfect attendance. He was active in the grassroots movement to get the
original skate park in our community. He has been active in the community and
the skate park and will continue to be," said his mother, Tina Belotti.
