FROM AOH DIVISION 1 PRESIDENT:

Brothers and Sisters,
First, I want to thank everyone who made the Spring Fling Fundraiser at Roman Catholic High School a success: the Ladies did a wonderful job transforming Roman's lunchroom into a beach environment; Tom McCourt for providing all the beer; DJ Fred played great music and kept everyone dancing; Danny and Bryan Geary provided a Celtic touch to the whole event with bag piping.  A special thanks to Kevin Kelly and Kelly & Partners for producing our Ad Book.  And, of course, thanks to our brothers and sisters from the other divisions who came out to support us as always  - we are nothing without you!

May has quite a few events -- in order
May 12th:  AOH/LAOH Jr Division Cook In 5:00 pm -8:00 pm at Aid For Friends 12271 Townsend Rd.  We need volunteers to help the kids prepare the non-perishable breakfast bags. Goal is 1000 for the day.

May 13th:  LAOH Division 25 Volley For Life Tournament.  Division 1 has entered a team - please let me know ASAP if you would like to play on our team or enter your own team.

May 18-19th:  the Mayor of Wexford, Ireland, Tommy Carr and his facilities director, Adrian Doyle, will be visiting Philadelphia. They arrive May 18th.  On May 19th a ceremony is scheduled at the grave of Commodore Barry's (St Mary's Church @ 4th and Locust Sts.)  Later that evening, we will host a dinner/fundraiser at the friendly confines of Fado to benefit the men's and women's operating accounts and RCHS scholarship fund). More info to come, but anticipate a 7pm -9pm start time for this event.

May 20th:  AOH State Board Meeting, Division 39, 1 p.m.
All the AOH Clubs be hold fundraisers for Seamus Boyle to help finance his run for VP at the National AOH Convention. Please come out and support someone who has been in the organization for 30 plus years!

As always there are many things going on that you can bring you family out to or help yourself.
Yours In Our Motto,
John Riley

Faith is the first factor in a life devoted to service.

Without it, nothing is possible.

With it, nothing is impossible

CONDOLENCES/PRAYERS REQUESTED

----------------------------------------------------------------

-- Please keep Ellenor’s sister-in-law, Edna, & her family in your prayers.  She is suffering from Lupus and needs our prayers and support.

--  Please keep Dee Dee’s mom, Kay, in your prayers as she recovers from surgery to repair an incorrectly healed fracture.

-- Dave McSorley is one of 25's officers that is always helping us out when he can with whatever comes up.

Keep him in your prayers.

John Riley

AOH Div. 1

-- Please keep Ryan Sees in your Prayers.  Ryan is the son of Liz Sees, LAOH 17 & Philadelphia County Publicity.   Please pray that Ryan continues on the road to a speedy recovery and that all test results have a good outcome!

Mary McCann, the mother of Liz Sees, Mary McCann-Lutz LAOH 17 and Kathy Brown LAOH 17 is still in need of our prayers.  She is making good progress with her rehabilitation, and I am confident that with your continued thoughts and prayers Mrs McCann will have a good outcome!

Christine Fitzpatrick

LAOH 17

-- It is with heavy heart and great sadness that I inform you of the sudden passing of AOH Division 51-Fishtown Brother, Lance Corporal Patrick Pote, USMC. Pat, age 23, passed in his sleep on Monday, April 10, in South Carolina.  When he was leaving for Iraq, I asked him if there was anything he needed from the Division and his reply was "Yea, Some AOH51-Fishtown T-shirts and some Blackthorn CDs, so those Iraqis will know that the Fishtown Irish are here."  Pat was buried with full military honors.  We take solace in knowing that Pat has gone before us to join St. Patrick, St. Brigid and All the Irish in Heaven and is now watching over us.  Rest in Peace Patrick.
Jay McCarrie

AOH Div. 51

-- Please keep Kyle Foley in your prayers. Kyle is the son of Division#25 brother Joe Foley. Kyle, a senior at Cabrini College was the victim of a vicious stabbing that took place in his dorm room. He was stabbed 3 times in the abdomen & has several other wounds.

-- Our Order lost one of its greatest friends and members:  Rev. Michael J. McCleane was an unyielding champion of the Hibernians, AOH and LAOH. He would have celebrated 25 years in the priesthood this month. Michael served the Lord in many parishes in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Among them; St. Andrews, Drexel Hill as deacon intern, St. Philomena's, Nativity B.V.M., St. Eugene's, Resurrection of Our Lord, Corpus Christi, Our Lady of Calvary, Ascension of Our Lord in which Michael served as Pastor and the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul where one of his duties was visiting the sick at Hahnemann Hospital. Please keep his family in your prayers.

Forwarded by Phil Bowdren:

There is a young soldier (a 23 year old Tennessee National Guardsman) named Sgt. Kevin Downs. He was blown out of his tank in Baghdad a year ago and left with no feet, mangled arms, and burns over 60% of his body. He is a Tennessee boy.  Everyone else in the tank was killed. His condition is not good. A surgery to improve the use of fingers on one hand inadvertently caused previous skin grafts to break down, and the grafts on his legs are cracking as well and may require beginning over at square one.

Kevin is tired and low in spirits. He needs our prayers and support through cards. Would you please send him a note or card to let him know you are thinking about him? Remember him in your prayers as well.

Thank you for all that you will do.   Every little card and prayer will help!

 His address is:

Prayer to St. Brigid
Father, by the leadership of thy blessed servant Brigid thou didst strengthen the Church in this land;  As we give thee thanks for her life of devoted service, inspire us with new life and light, and give us perseverance to serve thee all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

May you always have walls for the winds,

a roof for the rain, tea beside the fire,

laughter to cheer you, those you love near you,

and all your heart might desire
