This is in response to Gabs challenge

It had happened so fast. The wagon hurtling over the cliff, taking Xena,
Gabrielle, and little Eve with it. Ares stood in his throne room watching in
horror at the scene before him. “No, this cant happen, not to her,” he
thought. In a flash he transported himself to the beach where he saw the
wagon on fire and little Eve was dead. Gabrielle was laying on the beach and
Xena had just told him that it was over and took her life. He stood there
looking at the two woman, one of whom he cared dearly for. “I have to do
something to protect their bodies so the Gods can’t harm them more,” he said
to himself as he transported the two women to the foot of Mt. Etna.
Inside a cave he had fashioned 2 caskets out of ice one for Xena and one for
Gabrielle. He then went and gently placed Gabrielle’s body inside. Standing
over her, he marveled at how beautiful this young Amazon was.
“You had such potential, so much to live for only to waste it protecting the
two people you loved against the Gods. You didn’t stand a chance against
them and it cost you your life. Why Gabrielle? I had so much to offer you,
but you refused time and time again. I had offered you the world. You told
me that I could give you what I didn’t have. But you were wrong Gabrielle, I
could’ve given you the world, my world. That much I did have. My heart, my
soul, my very being if you would have only seen that. With you at my side we
could have found away to save Eve without losing you in the process. You
were Xena’s light and mine as well, though I never told you, you probably
wouldn’t have believe me.”
“When I came to you, when you fought against Mavican, I told you that maybe
Gods can change and I was right, because you have changed me Gabrielle. You
were able to see something in me that noone else could, you were able to get
into my soul. You have changed me and I will forever be grateful to you for
that. I love you Gabrielle.”
With that he leaned over, kissing her softly, whispering in her ear, “ Rest
in peace my Amazon Queen, you are and always will be my chosen one.”
Ares stood up taking one last look, closed the lid on his chosen forever.
