Max
listened to the raindrops softly drumming onto the window. It was way past
Max
sighed and turned to her side to face the window. It was half open and the
cold, fresh air streamed in soft waves into her room. She didn’t mind the cold.
She didn’t mind much anymore anyway. She used to daydream about
*
It
had started slowly, this gnawing feeling that something was just wrong. At
first, she had thought it was just her. Then she had found out about Logan and
Asha. What had really shocked her was not the news, but rather her reaction to
it.
She
had caught them red-handed and she didn’t mind. In fact, she felt relieved. She
quietly listened to
She
had caught the man she thought she was in love with in bed with another woman
and she DIDN’T MIND, for crying out loud! *That’s just another proof of how
cold and numb I’ve become.* She had expected it to hurt. A lot. She had
expected to burst out in tears and be terribly disappointed. But she wasn’t.
She had sat there in her room, waiting for the pain to come and claim her, for
the tears to flow. She had checked the watch regularly. One hour passed. Two
hours passed. Five hours passed. Nothing ever happened. It was as if somehow
she subconsciously had expected this to happen and she felt ashamed and guilty
that she was even GLAD that it was over.
So,
obviously, it was not only possible to slowly fall in love with someone, but to
fall out of love gradually too. It shocked her beyond belief that she really
didn’t care about finally giving up on
But
there was something else that scared her. She had spent a lot of time with
Alec. Now that would be nothing extraordinary, as they were working together in
TC. But she had caught herself dreaming of him in a definitely way beyond brotherly way. Several times.
Actually, every night. But then, he wasn’t her brother anyway.
She
had talked to Cindy about it and she had just said: “This your brain tryin’ to
tell ya somethin’, Boo,” and had winked at her, leaving Max clueless. Max could
handle the dreams. Actually, she had just about gotten used to them, when it
got worse.
It
all started with a weird feeling in her stomach. At first, she had thought she
might go into heat. But she had just been through one. So this couldn’t be the
reason. As she kept on experiencing this ‘weird stomach’ only when Alec was
around, and as the feeling turned into a knot, even a constant humming and
jolting, she should have known better. But she was a master of denial. That
couldn’t be. Mustn’t be. It was just plain impossible. Simple as that.
Then
she started to notice little things. The shivers that were sent up and down her
spine by a simple, accidental touch of his hand, for instance. When they were
looking over a couple of maps the other night, she had almost toppled over the
table when she felt him standing next to her, leaning slightly over her, to
show her something, his breath tickled on the sensitive skin of her neck. Just
this very morning exactly the same thing had happened AGAIN. She had mumbled something
and left the room in haste.
She
suddenly couldn’t look into his eyes anymore without blushing or escaping
his.... what colour were his eyes anyway? Green? Hazel? It seemed to change
with mood. She feared that if she were to look him into his eyes for longer
than absolutely necessary, he might discover the secret she had been hiding
quite well, even from herself. His eyes just seemed to see right through her,
pulling down her walls, leaving her like an open book for him to read. His eyes
were – mocking her.
Max
definitely dropped her shield of denial when he was shot and wounded on a
mission. It was nothing serious, the bulled had passed right through his left
upper arm, not even scratching the bone. But she saw the blood dripping onto
the floor, when they were back at
“I’ve
seen worse,” he had smirked upon her demand to let Cece check on the wound and
turned around, leaving her standing there. She had barricaded herself in her
room, not leaving it for a whole day, as she was thunderstruck by the
revelation of her heart. So she felt more than brotherly affection for him. A
lot more. *Just what am I supposed to do now?*
Max
had left her room, deep in thought, and found herself at TC’s infirmary. She
asked Cece how things were going, whether there was any supply that needed to
be stocked up, beating about the bush, so to speak. *Coward!* she scolded
herself. Then, finally, she asked whether Alec had been there to get patched up
and how he was doing. Cece had given her a strange look and told her with a
nosy smile that he had indeed been patched up and would be alright again in a
day or two. She had stepped out of the ward and let the wave of relief wash
through her. It almost made her cry.
*
*Why
Alec, of all men!* she sighed and sat up on her bed. Alec who could drive her
up the walls as easy as no one else. Alec who could get to her like no one else.
Alec who could drive her mad by just putting that cocky grin on his face. She
shook her head. Alec who was the only one – apart maybe from Zack before he gave
his heart to her – who really understood her. She never needed to explain
anything to him, one look was enough and he just knew. But he was so confusing
and irritating.
Max
sighed again, got up and grabbed her keys. She headed out the door of her small
flat at TC, down the stairs, got on her Ninja, kick-started it, revved the
engine and made her way out through one of the secret ways, the sector police
hadn’t discovered yet. She sped through the night and tried to clear her head.
*
Alec
was worried about Max. He was still working on some papers when he heard the
engine of a motorbike being revved. He got up and looked out the window only to
see Max’ dark figure disappear in the black night. He ran a hand through his
hair and sighed. He really was worried about her. She had been acting very
weird the last couple of months.
He
had found out that Logan and she were history only this morning. Maybe she was
still trying to deal with the break up? He had been looking for Max the whole
day, but he couldn’t get hold of her. It seemed as if she was trying to avoid
him. When he saw her across the hall and waved to her, she gave him a strange
look, turned around and disappeared quickly.
Maybe
she was mad at him? Alec quickly checked his peccadillo-list whether there was anything
he had screwed up lately that would give Max any reason to be angry with him.
*Nope. Come to think of it, she avoids me ever since I’ve been shot,* he mused.
They
had been on a mission, he had not been careful for a second when a bullet had
hit him. It was a clean pass through, nothing serious. But he just couldn’t
forget the way Max looked at him when they were back at TC and reporting on the
mission. He had almost forgotten about the injury, but he saw Max stare at it
and at the few blood drops that had fallen to the ground. What he saw in her
eyes irritated him to no end: her face was ashen, her eyes displayed concern,
worry, shock even and - sheer fear. And then, there was something else too he
couldn’t quite put the finger on. It sent shivers down his spine.
He
was on his way to let Cece check up on the wound again, when he heard Max
inquiring Cece about his injury. He stopped dead in his tracks and listened.
*Why would Max want to know how I’m doing? It’s just a shot through. Besides,
she hates me. Right?* When he heard Max say good-bye, he hid behind a half open
door and watched Max leave. He heard how she let her breath out. *Max,
relieved?* He stared in disbelief at her back until she had disappeared.
*Could
she actually like me? Despite all?* This thought had kept him up all night. He
couldn’t believe it. He pushed the thought aside, but a couple of days later,
he realised a change in her attitude. She seemed to be cold all the time,
because she was shuddering constantly when he – with full intent, but making it
look accidental – touched her or got close to her.
At
times she wouldn’t look him in the eye and if she did, she blushed fervidly.
Alec thought that – despite her flossy immune system – she was just about to
come down with a fever with her constant change of temperature. She even seemed
to have difficulties with coordination as she seemed to trip and stumble quite
often lately.
Then,
this morning Luke had commented on something. Exactly the same thing had
already happened once before and Alec had thought it just to be a hallucination
of his own mind up to then. Max had been studying a map and he wanted to point
out something to her. So he could show her better, he stepped beside her and
leaned slightly over her shoulder. Max immediately stiffened, nearly toppled
over the table and fled from the room with a muttered excuse.
Luke
had chuckled and burst out laughing after Max had left. Alec had turned around
and given him an annoyed look.
“What?”
“The
two of you are SO obvious, man.” Luke kept laughing.
“Obvious?”
Alec asked.
Luke
giggled. “Yeah, man. You make puppy eyes at her and she blushes at the sheer
presence of you and she just nearly stumbled over the table when you leaned
over her. Boy, there’s some UST here!” He laughed, hit Alec on the shoulder and
left.
Alec’s
mind was spinning. *Obvious? UST?* Max blushed when he was there? He made puppy
eyes at her? It was a well known – and even better denied and hidden – fact to
Alec that he was madly in love with Max. But she was in love with
He
thought about what he had overheard at the infirmary. He thought about her
behaviour towards him the last couple of weeks and suddenly, he let himself
allow hoping. Could there be even the slightest possibility? Could there be a
whatsoever tiny spark of hope that she could actually return his feelings?
He
needed to know. And then he found out about
*
After
two hours of driving around, Max finally pulled in to the Space Needle. When
she entered the roof, she took a deep breath. It had stopped raining, but she
hadn’t noticed until now. Slowly she walked towards the edge and sat down. She
closed her eyes and sighed. Speeding through the streets had done no good. She
still was confused and irritated.
“What
took you so long?”
She
whirled around to see Alec approaching her. Instantly, her heart jumped up and thumped
in her throat. She turned around again and stared into the darkness.
“Why
are you here?” she asked.
Alec
sat down next to her and sighed. “Because of you.”
She
turned her head and searched his face. “Why?”
He
sighed again. “Why? Because I’m worried about you. You’ve been acting all weird
the last couple of months.”
No
reply from her. She turned her head away again. He watched her profile as he
asked: “Is it because of
No
reaction, no emotion, her face a mask. She just kept staring into the night. *So
he knows. What are you going to do?* After a long moment, she turned to look at
him again. A smile playing around her lips, never reaching her eyes. “No, it’s
not because of
“What
happened?” Alec asked softly. She looked at him, the smile still on her lips.
If anyone in the world could understand her, it was Alec.
“I
don’t know. Maybe we just fell out of love gradually. I was even relieved we
broke up. It’s not
Alec
raised an eyebrow. “You?”
Max nodded.
“How
so? What’s bothering you, Max?” She remained silent and he went on in a lighter
tone. “I mean, it must be serious. You seem to be quite not yourself lately.
You haven’t even kicked my ass in a solid month!”
She
laughed softly at this. This sound made his heart contract painfully. It was so
rare to be heard and he savoured it.
“Well,
if I’d known you miss it so much, I would have kicked your ass ten times a
day,” she teased.
*She’s
teasing me?* Alec was getting more and more irritated by the minute.
“Seriously,
Max,” he put his hand on her shoulder to emphasise his words.
She
shuddered lightly at his touch and bowed her head.
“I
know.”
She
was struggling, he could tell from the look on her face.
“It’s
just..... when Logan and I broke up, I had expected it to be the end of the
world for me. But it wasn’t. I didn’t shed even one single tear. Actually, I
was GLAD. I feel like I.... have turned to stone a long time before that and am
not able to feel anything anymore.”
She
sighed and closed her eyes for an instant. “I fear I have grown very cold and
numb and nothing really matters to me. I mean, I don’t mind anymore. All I do
is feeling tired. It is as if I’m dead, emotionally.”
She
wrapped her arms around her knees. “And that’s what gives me the creeps.” The
last was spoken very quietly, almost a whisper. “The only time I REALLY feel is
when......” She bit on her lip.
Alec
lifted her chin and made her look at him.
“The
only time when you feel is....,” he started for her again.
She
looked into his eyes and she could have drowned in them right then and there.
Max suddenly found her fingers much more appealing to look at. Should she tell
him? She had only just figured out herself and she needed some time to get used
to the thought that she was in love with Alec. Had been for quite a while. And
why should she tell him, when she didn’t know about his feelings? He surely
hated her for how she treated him all the time, for her bossing and bitching
around. She would. She quickly got up.
“Uh,
never mind. We should get back.” She headed to the rooftop door when he caught
up with her. He grabbed her shoulder and made her turn around.
“Max,”
his eyes locked with hers. “I know that feeling. I.... know it quite well.” He
was at a loss for words. Finally he said: “Just in case: I’m here for you
and... I really care.”
The
smile that started to spread on her lips, reaching her eyes made the
butterflies in his stomach fly.
“Thank
you,” she whispered.
*
A
couple of days later, Max sat in her office in front of a pile of papers, when
there was a knock at the door.
“Come
in,” she said, not looking up and continuing her work.
She
heard someone walk in, close the door and walk in. Suddenly, she felt hands on
her shoulders, softly massaging her aching muscles. She knew who it was
instantly, as electricity shot down her spine by his touch. She straightened up
immediately. But Alec’s hands continued massaging her neck.
“Relax,”
Alec whispered into her ear.
Slowly,
Max put down the pen and leaned back again, closing her eyes to his strong,
comforting and soothing movements. *Mmh, this is wonderful....* His hands knew
just where it ached. But o, how she wished, she could feel those hands on her
entire body… Suddenly, her eyes sprung open again.
“What
do you want, Alec?” It came out harsher than it was intended to.
“I
want to take you away for tonight, Max. You’ve been working too hard, you need
a break. And I think I know just the place to take that break.”
Max
whirled around at his words, but he just smiled at her. She looked at him
suspiciously. “And what is this place?”
Alec
laughed. “Be surprised.” He became serious at her look. “Max, trust me. For
once.” He held out his hand.
She
considered turning him down for a moment, but then she thought about his words.
*Trust me. For once.* O, but didn’t he know that she trusted no one but him?
She looked into his eyes and reached for his hand.
*
They
were at Crash, playing pool. Alec watched Max happily sip her drink and smiled.
“So,
will you forgive me for having dragged you along?” he asked.
She
turned to him and her eyes sparkled. „Yeah, I do. That’s exactly what I needed.
I haven’t been here in ages.“
It
was Alec’s turn and she watched him play. *Actually, he always seems to know
what I need.* It was good to be back at Crash, having her mind taken off of
work and all the troubles at TC, having her forgetting about the world for a
while and just have fun. How could he know that she had needed this so
desperately?
“Max?”
Alec’s voice brought her out of her reveries. “Your turn.”
He
sat down on a nearby bar stool and watched her play. It had been a good idea to
bring her here then. She looked relaxed and happy. She even smiled and seemed
to be enjoying herself. *
She
finished the game with one last shot. A slower song came up and Max looked at
Alec.
“Do
you wanna dance?” she asked and he looked at her in surprise. She was amazed at
her question herself.
He
quickly recovered and took her hand with a smile: “Why sure.”
They
went to the dance floor and started to move to the music. Max pulled him
closer, earning a quizzical look and a raised eyebrow from him. She rested her
head on his shoulder and closed her eyes, breathing in his scent. He smelt so
good, she couldn’t even describe it any other way than ‘like Alec’. It made her
feel high. *Just till the end of the song. Let me pretend just till the end of
that song that I have him.*
Alec
felt her snuggle into him. He softly kissed her hair and pulled her closer to
him. He knew this would stop sooner than he would wish for, so he wanted to savour
this precious moment. He breathed in her scent and felt his heart skip a beat.
“I
love you, Alec.” She had thought that, but she didn’t realise that she had
actually muttered it into his shirt. Suddenly, he pulled away from her and
looked at her with a baffled expression.
“What
did you just say?” he asked breathless, his eyes sparkling in anticipation.
Max
blinked, irritated. “Huh?”
“Did
you just say that you love me?” he inquired and searched her eyes.
“Did
I.... but I just thought..... uh...” His sight silenced her. His face fell for
an instant and disappointment and hurt flashed through his eyes. It made her
heart skip a beat.
He
sighed, an expression of resignation starting to show on his handsome features.
“Just what are you afraid of, Max?”
She
stared at the rim of his shirt. Could she tell him? Could she trust him? His
fingers softly lifted her chin and made her look into his eyes. And the longer
she looked into those hazel depths, the more she calmed down and her walls
slowly crumbled down.
“I
love you, Alec.” It was barely above a whisper, but this time he heard it loud
and clear, saw her lips move as she said it. His heart that had just a moment
ago stopped beating, was thumping fast and hard against his chest.
“Max...”
He smiled tenderly and, in search for words, brushed a strand of hair behind
her ear. She looked into his eyes, fearing he would reject her, laugh at her.
But instead, she saw what she was hoping for: pure and honest love.
Alec
pulled her close and slowly bent his head.
When
their lips touched, she was falling, falling fast. The room seemed to be
spinning around them, she heard her heart thump loud and fast. The whole world
seemed to be reduced to this touch. Nothing else mattered than his lips on hers
and his hands on her body. There was no music, no dance floor, no people around
them, no Crash, just the two of them.
One
of his hands wandered to her lower back, pulling her nearer, the other was
placed at the back of her head, bringing her mouth closer to his, deepening the
kiss. She groaned softly when she felt his tongue on her lips, asking for
entrance and she gladly let him in. When their tongues touched, she shivered as
a spark of electricity went through her. Her arms went around his waist, pulling
him closer to her, their tongues probing the other, the taste of him making her
feel dizzy. She was addicted to this taste already.
Then
he slightly pulled away, looked into her eyes and she saw the same desire she
felt staring right back at her.
“Max...”
It
was barely audible, but her heart skipped a beat at his tender voice. Then her
stomach fluttered, as he claimed her mouth once again. Her hands wandered to
his butt and pressed her to him, feeling the reaction of his body pressed hard
against her hips, causing them both to gasp. Alec swiftly glanced around the
room. People were still dancing around them. He looked back to her.
“Let’s
get out of here,” he said and she nodded. They rushed up the steps, his hand
never letting hers go.
*
Alec
pushed the door open and they stepped out into the cold, rainy night. The door
slammed shut behind them and all that could be heard was the muffled sound of
the music. *She loves me! She loves me!* He couldn’t take his eyes off of her,
it took all of his self-control to not take her there and then. But he wanted
to go somewhere private. He wanted to show her what he was incapable of putting
in words right now.
She
was staring back at him, breathless, her eyes sparkling. He realized he still
held her hand and softly pulled her to him. His lips brushed hers quickly and
he smiled when he looked down on her face and saw that she still had her eyes
shut.
“Max?”
he asked huskily. Her eyes sprung open. She could see the unspoken question in
his eyes.
She
smiled. “Yes, I am sure,” she whispered and pushed her hips to his. He groaned.
He just hoped they would make it back to the apartment in time.
They
got onto her Ninja, she started the engine and sped off towards TC and Alec’s
flat. His arms were around her waist, his hands wandered under her shirt and he
felt her soft skin. *Pure silk.*
She
shuddered at his touch and forced the bike to go faster. Alec smiled into her
neck and his tongue darted out, licking her sensitive skin slowly. He felt goose
bumps rise, inviting him to go on. His hands drew circles onto the skin of her
belly, slowly wandering up, touching, feeling, worshipping each inch. He smiled
again when she changed into the wrong gear and cussed when the bike swayed
shortly.
Max
felt light-headed, she feared they would fall off the bike any second, because
she slowly lost control. It was impossible to concentrate on the street when
his hands drove her wild, his tongue at her neck teasing her, his body pressed
up to hers.
They
reached TC and quickly got off the bike. And then they were in each others arms
again, kissing, touching, pulling closer. Neither of them remembered, how they
made it up the stairs to Alec’s apartment or whether anyone saw them and
neither of them cared. All they saw, tasted and felt were each other. Alec
unlocked the door, pulled Max in, shot the door and locked it quickly.
Then
he turned to her. Her eyes mirrored his desire. He saw her lick her lips and
with that he pulled her into his arms. She met him half way. His mouth crushed
on hers hard, but she didn’t mind, she just wanted to feel him. His tongue
drove her insane. She felt his hands pulling off her jacket, pulling up her
shirt, over her head and it landed somewhere on the floor.
The
moment her skin was freed from the clothing, his hands were on her skin,
touching, caressing, causing more goose bumps to rise. Max tore on his jacket
and his shirt. His hands left her body just long enough to get rid of the
clothing. They wanted to feel skin on skin. Her hands shot out to his chest,
drawing his every muscle and making him shudder in return. His mouth crushed on
hers again. It was as if he was devouring her. Max felt her knees go wobbly as
the sensation of tasting him shot through her.
He
urged her to the bedroom. They both kicked off their shoes and she felt the bed
at the back of her knees, his arms encircled her safely, then she was lowered
onto the mattress, Alec following on top of her, his lips never leaving hers.
His hands slipped behind her back to unhook her bra and threw it to the side.
Alec
pulled away to look at her. She was just perfect, her breasts heaving as her
breathing was shallow. He looked up into her dark eyes and what he saw there,
made his stomach flip. They both quickly got rid of their remaining clothes and
faced each other, kneeling on the bed, completely naked.
His
hands tenderly grasped her left hand and he brought it to his face. He kissed
it on the back, then turned it to kiss its palm. She palpitated. His tongue
darted out, slowly licking along her index finger, then he quickly glanced at
her as he took her finger fully into his mouth, his tongue caressing her
finger. She shuddered slightly, flushing. He repeated his actions on her other
fingers, before his lips found hers again. His arms went around her back,
pushing, lowering her back onto the bed.
His
lips trailed kisses on her cheek. Max’ hands softly kept his head still, then
she licked his earlobe and auricle very slowly and softly, trying out all its
curves. She could feel him shudder, when her hands wandered up and down his
back, very lightly, teasing him, arousing him more.
He
groaned into her neck and she softly breathed out into his ear. She smiled at
his reaction as he shuddered violently, biting into the skin of her neck,
making them both moan. He wanted to turn his head back to meet her lips. But
her hands kept him in place and she licked his sensitive ear once again and she
blew into his ear again. Before she knew what happened, he had freed himself
from her hands and his mouth crushed down on hers hard, his hips grinding into
hers, showing her how much her actions had aroused him, making both groan into
their passionate kiss.
Then
his mouth left hers, a moan of protest turned into whimpers, as his teeth grazed
down her throat, licking her skin, leaving kisses on his way down to her
breasts. His hands cupped her breasts and she gasped. He looked at the beauty
before him and slowly took in one of her nipples. The feeling of his wet mouth
around her nipple, sucking on it, biting it lightly just to soothe it with his
tongue drove her mad. She arched her back, her hands in his hair, trying to
keep him in place, trying to tell him not to stop.
Alec’s
mouth travelled to the other nipple and he smiled to himself, when her hands
fisted in his hair, indicating how much she liked it. His lips wandered on,
over her belly, his tongue dipped into her belly button. Her sharp intake of
breath made him smile again. He wandered lower. He could smell her arousal and
it was intoxicating. His head was swimming as he pressed kisses onto her inner
thighs.
Alec’s
hands went to her hips, holding her still. She knew what was to come and stared
down at him. He watched her watch him as his tongue darted out to her clitoris.
Her body trembled with want and her head fell back. He almost lost it then.
He
licked, sucked, soothed her clitoris continuously. She whimpered and bucked her
hips, but his strong hands held her still. Then he slowly pushed one finger
into her depths and they both moaned. She was wet and hot, ready for him. He
added another finger, starting to pull out and push into her again and again,
still licking her aching bundle of nerves. She arched her back.
“Alec..”
Max panted, her hands in his hair trying to pull him up. “Alec... not...
without... you...,” she begged, but he shook his head no. Max’ head fell back
again, she closed her eyes to the sweet torture he was giving her. He was
building her up and she was climbing higher and higher.
“That’s
it, Max, don’t hold back,” he said huskily and with those words, she fell over
the edge. She didn’t hear herself crying out his name, as the waves of her
orgasm closed in over her and washed her away.
Alec
continued, slowing down, bringing her back to reality again and when she opened
her eyes, his heart skipped a beat at what he saw. Her cheeks were blushed, her
lips were slightly parted, her hair dishevelled. And as for her eyes… Her eyes
were a lake of fire. His body moved up and his lips found hers.
She
moaned as she tasted herself on his tongue and felt his erection push to her
groin. Her legs wrapped around his waist, trying to pull him to her. His lips
left hers and his hand came up to her face, making her look at him.
“I
want to see you,” he whispered.
Their
eyes locked. Then, with one fluid motion, he pushed himself all the way into
her. They both gasped. He could see a flash in her eyes when he entered her.
They both stilled to revel in the feeling of being joined, both in body and
soul. His hand came up to her face, caressing her cheek, his lips coming down
to hers for a soft kiss.
“I
love you,” he whispered and her heart was overflowing with love and joy at that
moment. They shared another tender kiss.
Then,
Alec pulled slowly half way out to push back hard and fast into Max, making her
gasp. He repeated his actions again and again. He was teasing her and she
couldn’t take it any longer.
“Alec...
please!!”
He
heard her begging and leaned in to kiss her, his tongue mimicking the movement
of his hips as he now started at a faster pace. He could feel her inner walls
starting to shiver around him. Alec was on the verge of losing it, but she
wasn’t quite there yet. His one hand moved between their bodies, where they
were joined. When his thumb found her aching centre, his name sprung from her
lips. His other hand grabbed hold of her shoulder.
“Max,
look at me,” he commanded, his voice trembling. She opened her eyes, passion
and love burning bright in them, lightning up each time he thrust into her
again.
“It’s
alright, Max, I’ll catch you.” His words made her fall over the edge.
“ALEC!”
She was flying high and falling fast, both at the same time, being hit wave
after wave by her orgasm.
Her
legs wrapped around him tighter, as he felt her muscles grip him, contracting around
him. He drove into her faster, harder, his hips a blur, when he was suddenly
struck by his climax, spiralling into sweet blissful oblivion and, with her
name on his lips, exploding into her body, clinging onto her for dear life.
*
Max
smiled down at him. He was fast asleep, his head resting on her bosom, his one
arm around her waist, the fingers of his other hand intimately interweaved with
hers. Max softly stroked his hair and looked down at his sleeping figure. She
had never seen him so relaxed, his lips were slightly parted, making him look
innocent and vulnerable. The sight of him made her eyes sting. Never had
anything felt so right. She belonged to him and he belonged to her. She trusted
him like no one else, because she knew he would be there and catch her fall.
“And
I’ll catch you,” she whispered, softly kissing his hair, before she drifted off
into sleep as well.
