Using The Maintenance Schedule
Because of the different ways GM vehicles are used, maintenance needs
vary. More frequent maintenance intervals than found in these manual may be
needed. When reading this section, keep in mind the conditions
under which the vehicle is operated, and adjust the maintenance
intervals accordingly.
The proper fluids and lubricants to use are listed in
Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations
. Use the proper fluids and
lubricants whenever servicing this vehicle.
The maintenance schedules found in this manual are for vehicle that:
- Carry passengers and cargo within recommended limits. Refer to
Label - Vehicle Certification
in General Information.
- Are driven on reasonable road surfaces within legal driving limits.
- Use recommended unleaded fuel.
Selecting The Right Schedule
Select the correct maintenance schedule according to the following definitions:
Short Trip/City Definition
Follow the Short Trip/City maintenance schedule if any one of these
are true:
- Most trips are less than 5-10 mi (8-16 km).
This is particularly important when outside temperatures are below freezing.
- Most trips include extensive idling (such as frequent driving
in stop and go traffic).
- Your vehicle has the 2200 L4 (Code 5) flexible fuel engine and
you have used ethanol fuel (85 percent Ethanol/E-85)
- The vehicle is operated in dusty areas frequently.
- Trailer towing or using a carrier on top of the vehicle frequently.
- The vehicle is used for delivery service, police, taxi, or other
commercial application.
Short Trip/City Maintenance Schedule Summary
These intervals summarize the Short Trip/City Maintenance Schedule.

5 000 km (3,000 mi)
- Engine Oil and Filter Change (or every 3 months, whichever
occurs first).
- Chassis Lubrication (or every 3 months, whichever occurs
first).
- Drive Axle Service (or every 3 months, whichever occurs
first).
10 000 km (6,000 mi)
Tire Rotation.
25 000 km (15,000 mi)
- Automatic Transmission Service (severe service conditions).
- Engine Air Cleaner Filter Inspection (if driving in dusty conditions).
- Front wheel bearing repack (2WD only) (or at each brake relining
whichever occurs first).
50 000 km (30,000 mi)
- Air Cleaner Filter Replacement.
- Fuel Filter Replacement (except 2200 code 5 L4 engine).
- Fuel Filter Replacement (4.3 L V6 engine only).
83 000 km (50,000 mi)
- Automatic Transmission service (normal conditions).
- Automatic Transfer Case Only: Transfer Case Fluid Change.
100 000 km (60,000 mi)
Engine Accessory Drive Belt Inspection.
150 000 km (90,000 mi)
Fuel Filter Replacement (2200 L4 engine only).
166 000 km (100,000 mi)
- Spark Plug Replacement.
- Spark Plug Wire Inspection.
- Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) Valve Inspection (4.3 L
V6 engine only).
240 000 km (150,000 mi)
Cooling System Service (or 60 months, whichever occurs first).
Long Trip/Highway Definition
Follow the Long Trip/Highway maintenance schedule ONLY if none of the
conditions from the Short Trip/City maintenance schedule are true. Do not
use this schedule if the vehicle is used for trailer towing,
driven in a dusty area or used off paved roads.

12 500 km (7,500 mi)
- Engine and Oil Filter Change (or every 12 months, whichever
occurs first).
- Chassis Lubrication (or every 12 months, whichever occurs
first).
- Drive Axle Service.

25 000 km (15,000 mi)
Automatic Transmission Service (severe conditions).
50 000 km (30,000 mi)
- Engine Air Cleaner Filter Replacement.
