This site is a journal of my efforts to loss weight, and get healthy,
and even though I am only starting it today, it will be a work in progress.
I dedicate this site to my parents and Sister-in-law, who have ALWAYS been there for me, and have been the BEST support system I could possibly have.
In January 2001 I was diagnosed with PCOS.  At that point I was at my highest weight of 460 pounds.  I learned that part of PCOS is being insulin resistant, and I needed to follow a low carb eating plan.  Well, being a Southern girl, low carb was not seen as easy, or a real option in my mind.

Fast forward to February 2003, with edema in the legs, and still at 439 pounds I decided to try to get insurance approval for gastric bypass surgery. During the approval process I had a consultation meeting with a surgeon, on Monday, June 9th, 2003.  He told me if I lost as little as 15 pounds he would be able to do the surgery laproscopically, instead of having to cut me wide open.  He also mentioned I should eat low carb until the surgery can be done, and to eliminate bread, rice, pasta, flour and sugar from my foods.  Well, the following Monday I did exactly that, and started my 26 week medically supervised program, which is what my insurance denied me for, and got down to 390 by Christmas.  Of course there was plenty of riding the exercise bike involved also.  Well, with the holiday season, I slowly let more and more carbs creep back into my diet, and have gained back up to around 430 pounds, and now my insurance doesn't cover the surgery.  I take this entire process as an experiience God realized I had to go through to finally get to the path he wants me on.

Well, tomorrow, Monday July 26th. 2004, I am recommitting myself to my exercise and eating low carb, since I know I can do it, and it DOES WORK for me.  I am going to update my journal at least weekly with my daily food, exercise and water intake.
Well, my beginning weight on 7/26/04 was 430.4 pounds.  I spent a lot of time on the computer and doing paperwork to get ready for the beginning of another school year, and didn't get in much exercise.  Work was also trying, as it seemed to be the week for everyone to bring various carb loaded goodies.  I did eat a few things around the middle of the week.  Do to lack of quality sleep I was hoping they would help energize me.  I should know better.  It works for a bit, then you just get super sleepy - No more!!  I didn't write down everything I ate, so I'm sure somethings were forgotten.
Not as bad as I thought I did last week.  8/2/03 I weighed 428.6.  It will get a lot better. I will start getting in at least 3 days of exercise, and build up from there.
