Gilbert and Winnie got their Washington drivers licenses in December (and, yes, Winnie scored higher on the driver's test). But we really have been dwelling here, as opposed to just being here, for several months now.
This was brought to mind the day Gilbert decided to reprogram the car radio. With 24 presets that had never been all used during its years in California, there were some for stations that hadn't been listened to in years. In some cases, they were for stations that no longer existed, and in other cases for stations programmed by passengers or simply no longer liked. There were some that had similar local counterparts; "Sports Radio" replaced "The Sports Leader" and "Information Radio" replaced "News Radio" (at least when the AM band is working). "Fun Oldies" replaced "Classic Rock" and "Bold Christian Radio", "The Way", and "Positive Life Radio" filled the spots once held by "KFAX" and "K-LOVE". But "Young Country" (which had replaced an original preset) got the boot, "Smooth Jazz" and "The Quiet Storm" blew away, and "Gran Diez-Diez", "Radio Romantica" and "Estereo Sol" said adios, although there are several Spanish-language stations in the area. The quantity of Christian radio stations in the area has been a blessing. There is a variety of music plus several good teaching programs, including some that are on simultaneously. Gilbert has to choose between J. Vernon McGee on "Thru the Bible" and local pastor Steve Whinery's "Cross Walk" in the morning. The latter program went through Leviticus and Revelations in 1999, and made those lively (for 6:30 in the morning) by showing how they related to Jesus. McGee was going through Daniel right after Whinery did Revelations, a good complement. This was not the first time I had ever moved to a faraway place; in fact I don't think I have ever changed all the presets from that move. About twenty years ago I moved from the earth to the Kingdom of God but still have some buttons that would produce some bad noise if someone pushed them. If you have made that same move, try pressing your heart buttons to see if they need to be reset. · Young Christian, do you avoid those certain people not because you dislike them but because they don't "belong"? Jesus spent much of his ministry with the uncool of his day.
· Adult Christian, do you trust in money, education and job more than God? You are building a strong house, but on a foundation of sand.
· Mature Christian, do you only read or pay attention to books or speakers that other believers you respect have recommended to you? God has given you knowledge and discernment so that you can check things out yourself.
· Older Christian, do you show favoritism to the young believers that remind you of yourself and the friends of your youth, and disdain those who look like today's worldly rabble? Remember that God looks at the heart rather than outward appearance.
