In Memory Of:

No jokes this month kids.
Sunday January 25 was a sad day for yours truly.
We had to put our dog Edison down. Edison was a Welsh Corgi. He was
13 years old. That is a long time for a dog but I'm
a little tired of hearing people tell me, He was just a dog or you
should put him down so nonchalantly.
Ed was a member of our family. This choice was hard on everyone.
Ed was diagnosed with Cushings Disease late last year. He was on
medication but not doing good. He wouldn't eat, his hair
was coming out and he had arthritis in his back legs and had lost
most of his muscle back there too, so moving was difficult.
He didn't seem to be in any pain, but getting from point A to point B
wasn't easy.
Edison was awesome, he was the best dog ever in my opinion. When you
walked into the house he was there to great
you. No matter what kind of day you had he could always put a smile
on your face. He was a lap dog. He would get
up on the couch with you and lie down right next to you. Sometimes
when you would pat him he would make these
noises like he was trying to talk.
Edison lived with my parents. When I moved out over three years ago,
the hardest part was leaving Ed. I knew I would still
see him, but I wondered what he thought when I would leave at night
and not come back for a couple of days. Edison and
I were close. He slept in my room most of time. When Edison was
younger he was always out with my friend Todd and I.
We would go out and play catch, Ed would run up and down the street
after the ball. When my parents had the pool,
Edison would run around the deck non stop, well every know and then
he would jump in to cool off.
Now that Edison is gone, I will think of him and all the good time we
had. I only hope that as Edison was leaving ,
surrounded by his loved ones, some of those times filled his head. I
picture Ed now running around in a field. No pain in his
legs, a big smile on his face.
I'll miss you big guy, I hope our paths cross again.
(Next month won't be as depressing, I promise.)
