Armageddon Pulp Culture Expo Wellington, New Zealand Michael Fowler Centre September Saturday and Sunday 15th/16th 2001 10am - 7pm. Celebrity guests from BABYLON 5, FARSCAPE, DRAGONBALL Z, MARVEL COMICS Unfortunately due to the horrific attack in America on the USA's 11th September both Richard Biggs (who plays Doctor Franklin in Babylon 5) and Richard Arnold (an expert on Star Trek history/info) were not able to attend the event. This was hugely disappointing for me, as I traveled down to the convention from Auckland especially to see Richard Biggs and Marjean Holden, but under the circumstances grieve for the lose of lifes and understand and hope that Richard Biggs does make it to New Zealand in the near future. Also wanted to see Richard Arnold as I am a borderline fan of Star Trek, not like my sister who is more dedicated to the tv series and movies. To add to this there were problems with Ansett and AirNZ airlines strife that caused alot of uncertainty regarding Marjean Holden's appearance, and she was unable to attend the Saturday. As these people were already in the country, Wayne Pygram (Farscapes Scorpius) Sean Schemmel (Goku in Dragonball Z) and comic Legend Roy Thomas were present from Saturday. Saturday I watched Farscape and Dragonball Z videos of the next season. Looking good!! Roy Thomas (writer of Spiderman, Conan, Greenhorn etc) began with a talk on how he liked the old style comics and how Roy built on established ideas. One point did fascinated me in his talk and that was how there was a underlying tassle between the writers of a show and actors as to who made the show popular. Personal I think it is because of the right combination. Then had an auction selling tshirts, cds, and such. Missed the two hour talk and video screening with Wayne Pygram. The most entertaining part of the day for me was the Dragonball Z Kamehameha contest which had over 100 entrants and with the finalists on stage doing a group Kamehameha with Sean Schemmel. Love it and went wild. Lastly for me the dragonball Z with a special screening of Lord Slug minus 10 minutes (for copyright legal reasons). Sunday Marjean managed was able to make the trip from Australia and this was most excellent. I was bought a raffle for the Red Cross appeal from her. I found Marjean to be warm, relaxing and friendly. She has a very nice smile. Marjean signed a photo and hat for me. Watched Wayne Pygram on stage and he was very entertaining. Wayne talked about his leather outfit he was wearing and a southpark take-off shirt of his character. Wayne said his eyes did not need to contact lens to change the look for Scorpius as they were cold and scary as it was. Next was Marjean Holden's first and only talk on stage and she said how tall alot of the scifi women are. Marjean does martial arts and was in the stunt business. She said how if JMS (J Michael Straczynski) didn't say anything to you, you were doing okay. Peter Woodward on the Crusade set would play many practical jokes and get up to many antics like putting awful suggestive thoughts in Gary Cole's mind before Gary was going to do his part. I had my photo taken with Marjean. This made the trip down to Wellington worthwhile. :-D The End
