The Vulcan/Phalanx Close In Weapons System is used to destroy missiles that make it past the other defenses the ship carries. It has a multi-barrel 20mm gun, firing at a rate of 3000 rounds per minute, controlled by a radar system under the white dome on the mount. Two are carried amidships on San Jacinto, one to port, and one to starboard.
