| Knocking on Wood | |||||||||||||||
| "Knock on wood" is an expression many of us have made. Some say this goes back to days when demons were thought to reside in trees. When speaking of something that a person hoped would come true, they would knock on a tree (or anything wooden) in deference to the spirits. | |||||||||||||||
| "Bread and Butter" | |||||||||||||||
| This phrase (or any combination like it) is to be said when two friends are walking and an obstruction of some kind comes between them (telephone pole, tree, etc). If it is not said, the two are said to loose the friendship. | |||||||||||||||
| Wearing Clothes Inside-Out | |||||||||||||||
| When someone puts on clothes inside-out accidentally, it is considered good luck to leave them this way for the rest of the day, as a disguise from your enemies. | |||||||||||||||
| Jinx | |||||||||||||||
| When two people say the same thing at the same time, this is called a jinx. If no one does anything about it, bad luck will come, but, if the two cross fingers and make a wish, it may come true. | |||||||||||||||
