GOING FOR A SMACK

Start in the same way as if you were going for a turn of the top.   Here, you really want to carry as much speed trough your bottom turn as possible.   Lean forward and carve with the rail of your board. Don't turn with tail of the board......this will slow you down.   Don't  open the clew.....oversheet the sail and lay it flat on the water.......this will  let you see where the lip is.... and it won't slow you down...  really drive the board attempting to dig the nose in..

As with a turn off-the-top, timming is very important.   Here there are two variations.
Start by going straight down wind with the peeking lip just before it breaks it will become completely vertical......at this point turn towards the beach and jump up......tuck in for increased hight.  This is a good place to strat as it will teach you timming.  Once you feel more confident  turn hard of the bottom......comming completely of the wave......aim straight back at the crumbling lip and get the upwards projection as the wave hits you. After you are in the air turn the board with the nose down......this will keep you in the wave.
Well have fun.......there is really no better sensation than smacking a lip!!!  SMACK!
