Teaching Ancient Wisdom for Today
America is not as divided as they say

Divide and conquer. It is the oldest trick in the book. Any military leader worth his salt will tell you it is the safest way to victory. Split the enemy forces and you can overrun them like the Indians at Little Big Horn. Jesus even mentioned it in Mathew 12:25 Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.  America is divided, but not in the way they would like you to think.  “How can that be, GraceWatcher?” you ask. “Ted Kennedy says we’re divided. So do Arlen Specter, Dick Durbin, Chris Mathews, and all of the polls. The news outlets are talking about Sandra Day O’Connor’s replacement and how much America needs a justice that will unite the country. To hear them talk, America is about to break apart.”

Don’t you believe it! It is all an attempt to conquer us, We The People, in order to maintain power. There is a division in America, but this is not the 50-50 nation the voting might indicate. Politics in America is all about separation. Young versus old, black versus white, rich versus poor, Republicans, Democrats, conservatives, liberals, moderates, left wing, right wing. Pick your label, since there is one for everyone. The politicos talk about your hot-button issue, put you in your box, and turn you against your neighbor. They know that if we are ever able to climb out of the boxes that they have put us in, then THEY will lose control.  But who is THEY, you might ask? It is an insidious combination of power elites who spend their time creating diversions (issues) designed to get us to take our eye off of the ball. Like an elementary school teacher at recess, they number us one, two, three, four, and then direct us toward the boxes, into which we dutifully march.  It is a battle of containment, modern America. Maybe it is time we ask ourselves a question. Why are they trying to divide us, and how did I get stuck in this box?

Most Americans are moral. They may not always DO what is right, but the KNOW what is right. We all share a common sense of decency. Respect people, help your neighbor, live and let live. Americans believe in right and wrong, even though they may not practice it.  We may disagree on the war in Iraq, NAFTA, CAFTA, and the Patriot Act, but we all agree the borders should be closed, our kids should be able to go to school without having guns poiting in their faces, Christmas should not be illegal, taxes are too high, and that O. J. Simpson was guilty.

So now we are engaged in a fight over Samuel Alito. They tell us it is a fight between Republicans and Democrats, liberals and conservatives. But they are lying. It is not between right and left. It is a fight between THEM and We The People.

Mainstream America? Do you really believe that anyone in Washington even recognizes, let alone, represents, mainstream values? The war for America is real and most Americans are too busy fighting through life to pay attention. The Republicrats know that. They are fighting for themselves, for their power, for their perks. They know that most of us are voting based on 30-second sound bites. Like a high school senior in the spring, the politicians know that we really aren’t paying much attention. You see, America’s elite are divided, but the American people aren’t. They just tell us we are. Don't believe everything you hear!  In a nation where decisions are driven by the latest poll, the elitists use the polls to make their point.

There is a division in America, but it is not the one they are trying to sell us. On one side sits a cabal consisting of the Hollywood crowd, the educational elite, the media, and the union leadership. On the other side, happily sitting in our boxes, is mainstream America. None of the great moral issues of the day have ever been voted on by the people. The elitists have used the courts to ram a new America down our throats. If our elected officials really want to represent our values, why don’t they let us determine what those values are? How about letting the people vote on:

  • Gay "marriage"
  • Posting the 10 Commandments in government buildings
  • Prayer in schools
  • Teaching of creationism or evolution
  • Affirmative action
  • Killing of unborn children or taking care of them as they are born
  • Government seizure of private property
  • Burning the American flag
  • Illegal immigration
  • Child porn

Excellent! Thank you for puting into words, what I've been thinking all along. I watch the world through those "sound bites" you refer to, provided so conditionaly by our "freedom of speech" media, and I think to myself..."Doesn't anyone see what's really going on?" It's refreshing to hear that someone out there apparently does. TJM
