Thoughts on Philippians 1
Paul was concerned with defending the truth and spreading the Good News about Christ. He wanted to see the Philippians grow in their knowledge and understanding so that they would understand what really matters and therefore live pure and blameless lives until Christ returns. My life can be filled with the fruit of my own salvation. It is a possibility--even more, Paul desired this for the Philippians. This fruit consists of the good things that are produced in my life by Jesus Christ. And the whole point of being filled with this fruit is to bring glory and praise to God.
Paul talks a lot about the truth of the Gospel (Ga 2:5; 2:14; Eph 1:13; Col 1:5). In Philippians, he revisits (Act 22:1) the idea of defending the Gospel (vv. 7, 17). Paul was not ashamed of preaching the Gospel (Ro 1:15-16; 2 Ti 1:12).
