We stayed in London last night, and awoke at 4 am to catch the 5:25 Eurostar train from london to Paris via the chunnel. What an amazing feat of engineering, too bad I slept through the entire thing.
We arrived in Paris, it was chilly, about 55 F, and we didnt pack much warm weather gear, damn. My first observation about Paris is that it smells good here. As we emerged from the underground metro, the air smelled like warm ham and cheese. We checked into our hotel, the quaint Hotel Viator, and napped, we set out to see he Arc de triomphe, which Napoleon commissioned in 1806 to honor his Grande Armèe. It was quite a sight, located at the center of a sprawling roundabout with 7 or 8 roads jutting out of the central artery. Then we decided that we needed some warmer clothes, so we walked the famous Champs-Elysèes for some shopping - big mistake - we couldnt afford a thing! Tired from walking and shopping, we searched for a bite to eat, it was 4pm and we hadnt eaten yet. We stpped at what appeared to be a little bistro, and ended up paying $20 each for a sandwich, and $20 each for a glass of wine - ouch!
