June 10, 2008 - from Quorn

Matthew and I are now in lovely Quorn, England visiting the British side of the family. We flew in to East Midlands airport from Madrid on a dinky flight on RyanAir, which is a discount airline. The flight was fine, no aborted takeoffs, but not the most comfortable flying experience - whatever, it was like $60.
For the last two days here, the weather has been absolutely beautiful here in Loughborough, UK. 70-80 degrees, sunny, and clear. We believe that this meteorological anomaly was brought about directly by our presence here - we've heard that it has been raining and dreary here for the last month. We have enjoyed listening to stories from Matt's Gran, and spending time with Uncle Andrew and the children, Daniel and Rebekah. With such a small family, it is important, you know, to spend good quality time with them whenever you get the chance.
A few difficulties though - apparently, our American bank is run by twits. I won't mention the name, because I don't want to degrade their good name. But before we left NC, we went IN PERSON to the local branch and told them that we were going to Europe, blah blah blah, and to authorize our credit/debit cards while we're here. We went through a list of the countries we're visiting, and assumed they would type that into a system, and give the green light. After arriving in Spain, we could not draw cash from our bank card, we called the bank and explained the situation, and were eventually able to get cash. We get to the UK, and try to draw cash, but once again, denied by the atm machine. So, for two days, we have been in UK with no cash, we walked around aimlessly around the city center, thirsty, looking for an atm that would work. But no, again cashless. Uncle Andrew was able to help us find a reputable bank here, and were able to get some cash today, but I hope for our bank's sake that our cards will work on our next stop to Paris.
Matt and I composed a rap song about trying to find cash in Loughborough, but I think I'll leave it out.
