June 3, 2008 - More Barcelona
Hubby Galloway here. Your intrepid female correspondant is working the no-telephone issue right now...
Today we started with lunch at Las Ramblas, a long pedestrian promenade
leading from the city center down to the seaport. Lunch was a very reasonable 11 Euro for three courses and two glasses of red wine; good news for our bank account!
After lunch we headed down to the port, then walked the seafront past several marinas and into Old Barcelona to visit the Museu de Picasso, a large gothic building filled with several hundred of the master´s pieces. The Picasso collection ranged from traditonal oil portraits painted when he was a 15-year old to cubist classics created at age 92.
Next we hopped Barcelona´s excellent Metro for a subterraean ride to a station a few miles north. From there we took a long stroll through narrow city streets to visit the Sagrada Familia, an unfinished cathedral in the unique modern architectural style of Gaudi... or so the guidebook tells me. I only wish we had some way to upload photos to the blog so you could see this unique building!
Now we´ve returned home for a well earned siesta before heading out to dinner. We´ve had a surprisingly hard time finding a phone from which to make a collect call...hopefully that or a calling card will work out soon. Until then, adios!
