Texans far from home
A blog of our thoughts and travels
April 5, 2008 - topic: travel

Had fun again today in Charlotte, NC.  Today, I did some shopping - god bless the "big" city.  I had a wonderful lunch at a place called Bombay Restaurant, which served a northern Indian buffet.  After that, I picked up a shimmy class at Lotus Studios with a nice woman named Nayna - learned some different approaches to the way I normally shimmy.  After class, I headed over to Georgetown Day Spa for a nice relaxing massage.  The massage was great, and I also discovered a cool artsy part of Charlotte at the intersection of The Plaza and Central.  It reminded me of a safer, cooler Deep Ellum in Dallas.  I visited many types of eclectic and worldly stores such as african imports, native american arts, tattoo and piercing, a reggae place, antiques, world arts (with way too expensive tribal belly dancing jewelry), a clock shop, hair salons, and restaurants.

Later on in the evening, I attended a bellydancing hafla hosted by Yasmine and Magic hips.  The performances were energetic and beautiful, and there was an open dance jam at the end.  Of course, I found the tribal folks and danced a bit with them.  Then, I headed home to Chapel Hill - back to the grind.

Oh, speaking of bellydancing.  Let me cross reference my webpage on tribe.net: http://people.tribe.net/supakat
