X. On the Devil's Sunset The gun within my hands, the wound inside my chest, the pain inside my soul I left it all behind, I rode into the west, I chose to die alone His blood is on my hands, my face is frozen as the last he shall remember Thanking God for death to spare me of this day, the last and worst forever But what is this? I feel like I've been here before The sun burns red as blood, the sunset seems to smile as it falls down on me The sands blow cold and harsh, my vision blurs as I ride, the sun is all I see But something so familiar, something old and horrible I feel is soon to come I face the west and see the demonic visage grinning within the setting sun But what is this? I know that I've lived this hell before It was upon a summer's day I rode back into town I entered the home of my best friend to find him lying in his bed And there beside him was the woman I thought I had loved I dragged him out onto the street and cast him down onto his knees All the town stood by the road as rage burned in my eyes He challenged me to a duel and drew his pistols like a fool In shotgun fire I took him down into a blaze of hell And as he fell unto his death, he fired with his dying breath But what is this? I know that I've lived this hell before The shot pierced through my flesh, and I killed my brother for this loveless whore I rode on out of town to die within my solitude I chased the sun down in the west to find peace in my final rest But now I stare into the devil's face like once before One-thousand times I've lived this horror, and I shall live it one-thousand more On the sunset of the devil I lived my dying day A day my spirit would descend but I'm cursed not to see it end This ghost town is my prison and my sentence has been cast Repentance of my wretched sin does not redeem what I've done to him But what is this? I know that I've lived this hell before I've died one-thousand times, I'll die and kill one-thousand more I lay my head to die, I cast my guns to the dust, none shall hear my tale of sorrow I know I will forget this curse I have been given when I wake up tomorrow I'll roam this town of ghosts, a specter of the past, and live that day again and again We all shall find our hell, and mine is to relive the day I killed my one true friend This is it, I shall live this hell forever more On the Devil's Sunset XI.
