| "I think we should explore one of Venus's poles," I said. "No one knows much about them."
"It's too early for that," my crewmate murmured sleepily.
"It's never too early for anything!" I exclaimed exuberantly.
"Well, I guess," muttered my crewmate as he crawled out of bed. We climbed into our rover and went towards the South Pole. When we reached it, there was a dark vortex. "Wow!" said my crewmate. "I've only heard of this phenomenon, never seen it."
"Whoa!!" I shrieked as the massive magnetic field of the vortex sucked me towards the pole. "NO!!!!!" my crewmate yelled. He threw a metal harness over me and using the strength of the rover, slowly pulled me back, away from the vortex. Then we both felt a small tug. It grew stronger and stronger until, feet screeching against the ground, we were pulled into the vortex. After a short silence, I whispered to my crewmate, "We appear to be stuck on the South Pole because of the vortex's magnetic field."
"I know that!" my crewmate snapped fiercely. "In fact, I am trying to find the gadget for reducing magnetic fields on this rover right now!"
"Can I help?" I asked, peering at the rover.
"You aren't close enough to the rover to work on it," he commented. "Don't forget that you can't move!"
I pondered this for a while and said,"I believe that the rover handbook is in the glove compartment."
"You're right," complimented my crewmate. "Here it is. Of course, the pages are immensely difficult to turn, but it is easier."
He searched the index until he found what he was looking for. "Mace...Magnet...Magnetic Field Reducer!"
"Have you found it?" I inquired jovially.
"Yes, I have!" my crewmate exclaimed ebulliently. "I'm trying to resist the vortex's magnetic field so I can press the corresponding button!"
At once, I found myself able to move again. "I feel weaker, but at least I can move!" I said, amazed.
"I believe the weakness is due to the fact that the vortex causes muscle atrophy," observed my crewmate lethargically. "Now, I believe it would be a good idea to get in the rover and get out of this area before the vortex sucks us in again and eventually kills us."
