Why Mt House (and Adcock gorge ) Closed.

When I toured the Kimberly in August/September 2000 Mt House station and Adcock Gorge were closed. In lots of tourist places I found examples of why this had occured. At the end of the Gibb River Road I had almost run out of matches due to the amount of toilet paper left by others that I had burnt. This was left on the earths surface together with featal matter, in some cases under a rock. In fact I had to reduce my tidying activities due to the number of matches left rather than a reduction in litter. I know I was not the only person tiding up after others, as they were the topic of conversation on a few campfire nights.

1) Three Gates Destroyed. Cattle Boxed in.
2) Fence cut around a locked and signposted gate.
3) Burn ceased due to tourist in target paddock.
4) People shooting native birds - Caught by Dept. of Agriculture.
5) Burnt food and beer cans left in fire. Sanitary pads left for crows.
6) Rubbish and human waste left in Adcock gorge.
7) Traveler refused to move as cattle brought across road. They had two helicopters in the air , 12 men and 500 head of feral cattle - an expensive operation put at risk.
