It was a seemingly endless case, working its way up to the Supreme Court. ******* It cost millions of tax dollars, and more than that, was an energetic expression of the government's opposition to racial and religious discord. Libertarians were rightly upset that speech -- no matter how vile -- could be criminalized. But a precedent was set, along with a message. ******* Fast forward to the present: News out of Vancouver is the imam of the major mosque there, one Younus Kathrada, has been whipping up his congregants each week with anti-Semitic hatred that would make Keegstra sound positively like a Zionist. ******* Like Keegstra, Kathrada called Jews names -- "we are dealing with a people ... the brothers of the monkeys and the swine ... whose treachery is well known." Calling Jews brothers of monkeys and swine sounds like a schoolyard taunt more than high argument, but his point was clear. And just in case it wasn't, Kathrada made it clearer still: His sermons repeatedly called for the killing of Jews. ******* Poor old Keegstra. All he ever did was call the Jews power-hungry money-grubbers, and he was convicted of a crime. Kathrada whips up his congregants into a Jew-baiting frenzy -- and tells them to go and actually kill someone -- and he remains free. ******* There's some evidence that his Muslim acolytes actually followed his instructions, too. Rudwan Khalil Abubaker, who attended Kathrada's mosque, was in a fire-fight with Russian troops in Chechnya earlier this year. At least he took his violence outside of Vancouver. ******* The question remains: Why was Keegstra's offensive but non-violent anti-Semitism taken to the Supreme Court, but Kathrada's is tolerated with impunity? ******* Kathrada doesn't just call for the death of Jews. He slams Muslims who dare to believe in peaceful co-existence -- you know, Ottawa's dream of multiculturalism. Kathrada claims such Muslims aren't real Muslims, and no truce with Jews can ever be had. ******* Kathrada also uses his tax-exempt mosque to trumpet the cause of Hamas, a notorious terrorist group responsible for countless suicide bombings. ******* Why hasn't Kathrada been charged with a hate crime? Why haven't he and his mosque been charged under Canada's new anti-terrorism laws for promoting and aiding terrorist groups like Hamas? (To date, not a single charge has been laid under this law.) ******* The answer is obvious. It's easy to pick on a politically incorrect country bumpkin like Jim Keegstra. Some dumb white guy making dumb remarks about Jews -- go get 'em. There's not a well-funded, politically correct Dumb Guy Defence Committee ready to roll for his defence. ******* But ever since 9/11, liberals throughout the West have decided an anti-Arab backlash would be worse than Arab terrorism itself. Bush another four years to fight the war on terror from the White House, the Netherlands was rocked by the murder of a prominent filmmaker, killed "like a pig" in the street because he spoke out against Islam. ******* Theo van Gogh -- great grand-nephew of the famous painter -- was apparently targeted because of his 10-minute English-language film, Submission, which dramatizes the abuses women suffer in Islamic societies. ******* Dutch authorities say the 26-year-old "Muslim extremist" suspected in the Tuesday morning killing in east Amsterdam left a letter calling for a holy war, or jihad. He has dual Moroccan-Dutch citizenship and is allegedly linked to a terrorist group. ******* Van Gogh had received death threats over Submission, a fictional account depicting Muslim women who tell of their mistreatment by male members of their families. The women's breasts are visible under see-through robes and verses from the Qur'an supposedly advocating beating and other abuses are written on their bodies. ******* Van Gogh said earlier this year he hoped to sell Submission all over the world and joked he would also send it to the Arabic-language news service Al-Jazeera. ******* Fuelling a wave of public anger after the murder, BBC reported, "was the manner in which van Gogh was killed: his throat was reportedly cut, bringing to mind the words of an angry Muslim only a few months ago that people like van Gogh who blasphemed against Islam should be 'slaughtered like pigs.' " ******* Repeatedly shot and stabbed, the 47-year-old filmmaker, TV producer and newspaper columnist was found with a knife protruding from his chest. One Dutch newspaper said the killer shot van Gogh eight or nine times, then calmly slipped the gun into his raincoat pocket before bending over his victim and slitting his throat. ******* "Today is the day I became a racist" was described as "one of the typical reactions that appeared on Dutch websites on Tuesday." Others called for Hitler to be brought back from the grave or for all "foreigners" to be deported from the Netherlands at once. ******* While leaders of the Moroccan-Muslim community, the biggest ethnic minority group in the Netherlands, have unanimously deplored the murder, several websites for Dutch Moroccans were taken offline when people wrote in to express their approval of the killing. ******* Even responsible Muslim leaders who condemned such responses refer to the van Gogh film as "blasphemous." ******* Submission was written by Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a Somali-born Dutch MP who has staunchly criticized Islam for sanctioning physical violence against women -- and paid the all-too-predictable price for her "blasphemy." She has been forced into hiding after receiving death threats and goes everywhere with armed bodyguards. ******* We should all admire her and van Gogh for their extraordinary courage. ******* In the Western world, speaking out against the mistreatment of women in patriarchal cultures is more than a chauvinistic impulse -- it is a duty, it is what we believe in. ******* One reason Islamic terrorists hate us so much is because women have power in our societies and have been moving steadily toward true equality with men. It seems much easier -- and safer -- to just blame it on greedy American capitalists. ******* And hey, now we've got George Bush to kick around for another four years, don't we? ***************************************************************************************************************** ******* item 3 TARGETING DOWN SYNDROME CHILDREN FOR ABORTION ******* From: [email protected] ******* Date: 05 Apr 2005 ******* Subject: New Study Fuels Controversy Over Down Syndrome Abortions ******* http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewCulture.asp?Page=/Culture/archive/200504/CUL20050405a.html ******* By Marc Morano, CNSNews.com Senior Staff Writer ******* (CNSNews.com) - A new study is fueling the debate surrounding the abortion of babies thought to have Down syndrome and other birth defects. ******* The study published in the March issue of the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology shows that many pregnant women receive only negative information from medical professionals when a prenatal diagnosis reveals a potential for giving birth to a baby with Down syndrome. ******* The study is being billed by the Harvard University Gazette as "the largest and most comprehensive study on prenatally diagnosed Down syndrome to date." ******* Among the examples noted in the report was an expectant mother who spoke of a medical professional who "showed a really pitiful video, first of people with Down syndrome who were very low tone and lethargic-looking, and then proceeded to tell us [in 1999] that our child would never be able to read, write or count change." ******* The study also found that expectant mothers were often not counseled by medical personnel regarding the latest information on Down syndrome or given any contact information about parent support groups during the emotional period when many women decide whether to seek an abortion. ******* While the live birth rate of babies afflicted with Down syndrome has remained steady in recent years, studies have shown the abortion rate of Down syndrome babies is estimated at 80 to 90 percent when prenatal screening reveals the possibility or probability for the condition. ******* The situation is compounded by the fact that some of the prenatal Down syndrome testing is wrong 20 to 40 percent of the time, raising the question of whether healthy unborn children are being aborted. ******* Down syndrome is a chromosomal anomaly that causes an error in cell development resulting in 47 chromosomes rather than the usual 46. The extra gene material slightly changes the orderly development of the body and brain and can be the cause of retardation. ******* According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) about three percent of babies born in the U.S. have birth defects and it is estimated that about 5,000 children are born with Down syndrome annually. It is estimated that 250,000 individuals with Down syndrome are currently living in the U.S. ******* Past studies have shown that the prenatal diagnosis of the unborn child with Down syndrome has resulted in high rates of abortion with at least one study showing medical professionals often pressure woman to abort. ******* A 1993 study conducted by the Canadian Royal Commissions on New Reproductive Technologies found that 25 percent of the Canadian women surveyed felt pressure from medical staff to undergo an amniocentesis. Thirty-three percent of the women who tested positive for some form of birth defect felt pressure from medical staff to have an abortion. ******* Three years earlier another Canadian study of 22,000 women who received prenatal diagnosis found that 88 percent of the women carrying a child diagnosed with Down syndrome had an abortion. ******* The CDC also reported in 1993 that prenatal diagnosis services and abortion reduced the number of Down syndrome births to white women in metropolitan Atlanta by about 70 percent. ******* Data from the Office for National Statistics in England and Wales in 2002 revealed that abortions on babies with Down syndrome, physical deformities and even such minor problems as cleft palates increased. In 2002 more babies with Down syndrome were aborted than were born with the disease, according to the British statistics. ****** 'Culture of death' ******* Pro-life groups blame what they call the "culture of death" for the legal system that upheld the withholding of food and water from Terri Schiavo, culminating in her death from dehydration last week; and for the abortions on unborn babies thought to have Down syndrome and other birth defects. ******* "What I see today in America is in many respects the repeat of the eugenics era of American history back in the early 1900s, where infants were allowed to starve to death because they had deformities or abnormalities, where it was suggested that people who did not have the appropriate brain power should be sterilized or not allowed to have children," said Michael Geer, president of the Pennsylvania Family Institute. ******* Geer told Cybercast News Service that this current cultural trend in dealing with the physically and mentally handicapped is wrong. "I don't think that death is the appropriate solution for that, the same way a child who is diagnosed in womb as having some abnormality or deformity," Geer said. ******* Jim Sedlak, vice president of the pro-life American Life League, echoed Geer's comments, conceding that Down syndrome babies pose difficult challenges for parents but also produce a lot of love. ******* "Our experience with Down syndrome babies is that they bring more love into the world than a normal child just by being who they are. Their personalities -- the way people react to them -- there is just an outpouring of love for these children. If we abort these children we are going to miss a lot of love in our world," Sedlak said. ******* Several organizations that work with Down syndrome individuals and families indicate that they try to remain neutral on whether an expectant mother should opt to undergo an abortion. ******* "I try to provide them with information that will help them make an informed decision. I don't have a stand on that (abortion) either way. We just want people to consider all the facts and not just negatives," Sue Joe, a resource specialist with the Down Syndrome Congress told Cybercast News Service. ******* "We want to give them positive information, that it is not necessarily the end of the world [and] for them to consider other options," Joe added. ******* Prenatal testing for Down syndrome came into wide use in the 1980s, but the blood screening tests are estimated to be approximately 60 to 80 percent accurate in identifying an unborn baby with Down syndrome when the age of the mother is considered, according to Joe. ******* "There are a lot of false positives with those tests; there are a lot of false negatives. It's a controversial test in itself. It just raises some flags," Joe said, noting that the only completely accurate test, amniocentesis, carries with it a risk of miscarriage. ******* Despite the abortion rates of unborn babies, the number of Down syndrome live births has held steady over recent years, according to Joe. ******* "It's funny that [Down syndrome births] remain steady because you would think that because more older women are finding out prenatally and then terminating, that the number should go down. But because more younger women are having babies without prenatal testing because they are assuming they are not at risk, more babies with Down syndrome are being born to younger women so the number remains steady," Sue Joe said. ******* "[Younger women] don't feel they are at risk (for having a Down syndrome baby). But really they too can have a child with Down syndrome, so they don't do prenatal testing," Joe said. ******* The neutrality on whether a woman should seek an abortion is shared by the National Association for Down Syndrome (NADS). ******* When asked if she would advise an expectant mother against aborting a baby thought to have Down syndrome, Ann Garcia, the parents support coordinator of the NADS, told Cybercast News Service, "No, that is not our place; our place is to answer the questions to try to give them accurate up-to-date info. ******* "We just kind of listen to them, and really it is not our place to judge, it is not our place to put pressure on people, it's not our place to try to influence their decision one way or another," Garcia said. ******* 'See change in the environment' ******* But the Down syndrome support groups say there is reason for hope since American society continues to show growing acceptance for individuals with Down syndrome. ******* "There has been a huge change culturally in those families that do decide to keep their children with Down syndrome," Garcia said. "It's much, much more common now for there to be a number of those families who are encouraged to do that. They do have a lot more support services than used to be the case 20 years ago." ******* "I think some of that (desire for abortions) may be coming out of perceptions that are not accurate. I would advise any family to look at more of the current research. It's much more encouraging about the capabilities, life expectancy, what it's like for a child with Down syndrome to grow up now. It is just so much more encouraging," she added. ******* Sue Joe from the Down Syndrome Congress agreed. ******* "It's not the same world of the 1960s, where those children or those adults were put aside, or 40 years ago when parents who had a child with Down syndrome -- they were told 'Don't take the baby home, tell your friends that the baby died and put him in an institution.' We know this because the rapists have openly declared their sectarian motivations. ******* When a number of teenage Australian girls were subjected to hours of sexual degradation during a spate of gang rapes in Sydney that occurred between 1998 and 2002, the perpetrators of these assaults framed their rationale in ethnic terms. The young victims were informed that they were “sluts” and “Aussie pigs” while they were being hunted down and abused. ******* In Australia's New South Wales Supreme Court in December 2005, a visiting Pakistani rapist testified that his victims had no right to say no, because they were not wearing a headscarf. ******* And earlier this year Australians were outraged when Lebanese Sheik Faiz Mohammed gave a lecture in Sydney where he informed his audience that rape victims had no one to blame but themselves. Women, he said, who wore skimpy clothing, invited men to rape them. ******* A few months earlier, in Copenhagen, Islamic mufti and scholar, Shahid Mehdi created uproar when – like his peer in Australia – he stated that women who did not wear a headscarf were asking to be raped. ******* And with haunting synchronicity in 2004, the London Telegraph reported that visiting Egyptian scholar Sheik Yusaf al-Qaradawi claimed female rape victims should be punished if they were dressed immodestly when they were raped. He added, “For her to be absolved from guilt, a raped woman must have shown good conduct.” ******* In Norway and Sweden, journalist Fjordman warns of a rape epidemic. Police Inspector Gunnar Larsen stated that the steady increase of rape-cases and the link to ethnicity are clear, unmistakable trends. Two out of three persecutions for rape in Oslo are immigrants with a non-Western background and 80 percent of the victims are Norwegian women. ******* In Sweden, according to translator for Jihad Watch, Ali Dashti, “Gang rapes, usually involving Muslim immigrant males and native Swedish girls, have become commonplace.” A few weeks ago she said, “Five Kurds brutally raped a 13-year-old Swedish girl.” ******* In France, Samira Bellil broke her silence – after enduring years of repeated gang rapes in one of the Muslim populated public housing projects – and wrote a book, In the hell of the tournantes, that shocked France. Describing how gang rape is rampant in the banlieues, she explained to Time that, “any neighborhood girl who smokes, uses makeup or wears attractive clothes is a whore.” ******* Unfortunately, Western women are not the only victims in this epidemic. In Indonesia, in 1998, human rights groups documented the testimony of over 100 Chinese women who were gang raped during the riots that preceded the fall of President Suharto. Many of them were told: “You must be raped, because you are Chinese and non-Muslim.” ******* Christian Solidarity Worldwide reported that in April 2005, a 9-year-old Pakistani girl was raped, beaten with a cricket bat, hanged upside down from the ceiling, had spoonfuls of chillies poured into her mouth, and repeatedly bashed while handcuffed. Her Muslim neighbours told her they were taking revenge for the American bombing of Iraqi children and informed her they were doing it because she was an “infidel and a Christian.” ******* In Sudan – where Arab Muslims slaughter black Muslim and Christian Sudanese in an ongoing genocide – former Sudanese slave and now a human rights’ activist Simon Deng says he witnessed girls and women being raped and that the Arab regime of Khartoum sends its soldiers to the field to rape and murder. In other reports, women who are captured by government forces are asked; “Are you Christian or Muslim?” and those who answer Christian, are gang raped before having their breasts cut off. ******* This phenomenon of Islamic sexual violence against women should be treated as the urgent, violent, repressive epidemic it is. Instead, journalists, academics, and politicians ignore it, rationalize it, or ostracize those who dare discuss it. ******* In Australia, when journalist Paul Sheehan reported honestly on the Sydney gang rapes, he was called a racist and accused of stirring up anti-Muslim hatred. And when he reported in his Sydney Morning Herald column that there was a high incidence of crime amongst Sydney’s Lebanese community, fellow journalist, David Marr sent him an e-mail stating, “That is a disgraceful column that reflects poorly on us all at the Herald.” ******* Keysar Trad, vice-president of the Australian Lebanese Muslim Association said the gang rapes were a “heinous” crime but complained it was “rather unfair” that the ethnicity of the rapists had been reported. ******* Journalist Miranda Devine reported during the same rape trials that all reference to ethnicity had been deleted from the victim impact statement because the prosecutors wanted to negotiate a plea bargain. ******* So when Judge Megan Latham declared, “There is no evidence before me of any racial element in the commission of these offences,” everyone believed her. And the court, the politicians and most of the press may as well have raped the girls again. ******* Retired Australian detective Tim Priest warned in 2004 that the Lebanese gangs, which emerged in Sydney in the 1990s – when the police were asleep – had morphed out of control. “The Lebanese groups,” he said, “ were ruthless, extremely violent, and they intimidated not only innocent witnesses, but even the police that attempted to arrest them.” ******* Priest describes how in 2001, in a Muslim dominated area of Sydney two policemen stopped a car containing three well-known Middle Eastern men to search for stolen property. As the police carried out their search they were physically threatened and the three men claimed they were going to track them down, kill them and then rape their girlfriends. ******* According to Priest, it didn’t end there. As the Sydney police called for backup the three men used their mobile phones to call their associates, and within minutes, 20 Middle Eastern men arrived on the scene. They punched and pushed the police and damaged state vehicles. The police retreated and the gang followed them to the police station where they intimidated staff, damaged property and held the police station hostage. ******* Eventually the gang left, the police licked their wounds, and not one of them took action against the Middle Eastern men. Priest claims, “In the minds of the local population, the police are cowards and the message was, 'Lebanese [Muslim gangs] rule the streets.'” ******* In France, in the banlieues, where gang rape is now known simply as tournantes or ‘pass-around,’ victims know the police will not protect them. If they complain, Samir Bellil said, they know that they and their families will be threatened. ******* However, Muslim women in the French ghettos are finally fighting back against gang rape and police non-action. They have begun a movement called, “We’re neither whores nor doormats.” They are struggling against the intrinsic violence that plagues their neighbourhoods and the culture that condones it. ******* In most French prosecutions, the Muslim rapists state that they do not believe they have committed a crime. And in a frightening parallel with the gang rapists in Australia, they claim the victim herself is to blame and accuse her of being a “slut” or a “whore.” ******* According to The Guardian, during the recent French riots, a Saudi Prince with shares in News Corporation boasted to a conference in Dubai that he had phoned Rupert Murdoch and complained about Fox News describing the disturbances as “Muslim riots.” Within half an hour he said, it was changed to “civil riots.” ******* Swedish translator, Ali Dashti, stated that in Sweden when three men raped a 22-year-old woman recently, they said one word to her. “Whore.” Such stories, according to Dashti, are in the Swedish newspapers every week. And, the politically correct “take great care not to mention the ethnic background of the perpetrators.” ******* Sweden’s English newspaper The Local reported in July that Malmo police commander Bengt Lindström had been charged with inciting racial hatred. He sent e-mails from his home computer to two city officials. To the head of healthcare, he wrote: “You...treat old Swedes who have worked hard building up the fatherland like parasites and would rather give my taxes to criminals called Mohammed from Rosengärd.” ******* In Malmo, the third largest city in Sweden, the police have admitted, Dashti says, that they no longer control the city. “It is effectively ruled by violent gangs of Muslim immigrants.” Ambulance personnel are regularly attacked and spat upon and are now refusing to help until a police escort arrives. The police are too afraid to enter parts of the city without backup. ******* In early 2005, Norwegian newspapers reported that Oslo had recorded the highest ever number of rape cases in the previous twelve months. However, Fjordman explained, the official statistics contained no data regarding “how immigrants were grossly over represented in rape cases”, and the media remain so strangely silent. ******* Oslo Professor of Anthropology, Unni Wikan, said Norwegian women must take responsibility for the fact that Muslim men find their manner of dress provocative. And since these men believe women are responsible for rape, she stated, the women must adapt to the multicultural society around them. ******* The BBC pulled a documentary scheduled for screening in 2004, after police in Britain warned it could increase racial tension. “In these exceptional circumstances... Channel 4 as a responsible broadcaster has agreed to the police’s request...” The documentary was to show how Pakistani and other Muslim men sexually abused young, white English girls as young as 11. ******* The number of rapes committed by Muslim men against women in the last decade is so incredibly high that it cannot be viewed as anything other than culturally implicit behaviour. It is overtly reinforced and sanctioned by Islamic religious leaders who blame the victims and excuse the rapists. ******* In three decades of immigration into Western countries, Islam has caused social upheaval and havoc in every one of its host countries. No other immigration program has encountered the problems of non-assimilation and religious ambiguity. ******* Everywhere in the world, Muslims are in conflict with their neighbours. And as Mark Steyn recently said, every conflict appears to have originated by someone with the name of Mohammed. ******* In July 2005, Melbourne Sheik Mohammad Omran told Sixty Minutes that “...we believe we have more rights than you because we choose Australia to be our home and you didn’t. “ ******* In the same interview visiting Sheik Khalid Yasin warned “There’s no such thing as a Muslim having a non-Muslim friend, so a non-Muslim could be your associate but they can't be a friend.
