(A4e3a4a3) abortion and breast cancer
Abortion increases the risk of breast cancer. The tobacco industry denied that smoking increased the risk of lung cancer. The abortion industry denies that aborting a child increases the mother's risk of breast cancer.

******* item 1 ABORTION-BREAST CANCER NEWS HEADLINES
******* From: [email protected] and [email protected]
******* Date: Thu, 11 Nov 2004
******* Dear Friends:
******* Yesterday, the Associated Press (AP) embarked on a war against women's basic rights to informed consent when editors published Laura Meckler's article entitled, "Women wrongly warned cancer-abortion tied."
******* Concerned about legislation in a handful of states that require doctors or state health departments to warn abortion-bound women about the recognized and contested breast cancer risks of abortion, Meckler falsely reassured women there is no scientific basis for an abortion-breast cancer (ABC) link. Why? Because the federal government and scientists funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) say it is so.
******* Meckler cited a National Cancer Institute (NCI) workshop in 2003 that issued a statement claiming that abortion is unrelated to increased breast cancer risk. The NCI's statement was at war with itself. It acknowledged that breast cancer risk decreases with increased childbearing, starting at an early age, and increased duration of breastfeeding. The NCI denied that abortion leaves women with an increase in cancer-vulnerable breast lobules, although the vast majority of the epidemiological studies, biological and experimental evidence, and a plausible biological explanation support abortion as an independent risk factor for the disease.
******* The British journal Lancet and its UNFPA-funded scientists from Oxford played their part in disparaging an independent link with the publication of a March 26, 2004 article purportedly reviewing 52 ABC studies. Scientists used unscientific reasons (i.e., they couldn't locate original authors of some studies) to toss out 15 published, peer-reviewed studies reporting an average 80% risk elevation. Then they added 28 never-published, never-peer-reviewed studies to their review. The unpublished studies represented most of the research included in the supposed review.
******* Meckler, of course, is overlooking the fact that both the U.S. government and the UNFPA have aggressively pursued population control policies for several decades. Telling women the truth about the ABC link is politically explosive. It isn't good for political careers - especially those who campaign on abortion rights - and it isn't good for feminists' breast cancer fundraising businesses.
******* Although journalists often call themselves "watchdogs of government," in the case of abortion, the American press has become "lapdogs of government." The ABC link is an acceptable government cover up.
******* Meckler published a quote from abortion industry physician Vanessa Cullins, MD, vice president for medical affairs at Planned Parenthood Federation of America. She argued that informed consent legislation puts a "false guilt trip and fear trip" on women. She further argued that it won't dissuade women from choosing abortion.
******* Cullins, however, has a short memory that serves her employer well. A few short decades ago, after thousands of cigarette smokers had died and after scientists had studied a tobacco-cancer link for over a century, the U.S. Surgeon General chose to warn smokers in 1964 about the health risks of smoking. Most adults in the U.S. smoked cigarettes in the 1950's, but that changed dramatically after the federal government issued its warning and doctors decided to encourage patients not to smoke. Today, few adults smoke cigarettes.
******* The difference between the tobacco-cancer link and the ABC link, however, is that abortion is a doctor's and a pharmaceutical industry. This is one of the reasons why some doctors are reluctant to acknowledge the ABC link. Additionally, it's problematic for an oncologist to inform patients of an ABC link when his colleagues in gynecology down the hallway are performing abortions.
******* Perhaps the most troubling aspect of Meckler's advocacy for the abortion industry is that she asked me for copies of abstracts for the "best studies" supporting abortion as a risk factor for the disease. Her request was made at 5:00 p.m. CST. Twenty abstracts were faxed to her by 6:00 CST. She posted her article the same evening. It's doubtful that any scientist is capable of reading and analyzing 20 studies in that short time. Certainly no journalist is capable of doing it either.
******* The bottom line is that ideology, rhetoric, angry words and emotional investment in abortion cannot change human biology. Women will continue to develop breast cancer as a result of their abortions in increasing numbers, and officials at the abortion and the cancer businesses don't really care. The tragedy of it all is that young women and teenagers are unknowingly making unhealthy choices that will change their lives forever; and women at risk for the disease because of their abortions will miss a window of opportunity to adopt risk reduction strategies.
******* Spread the word.
******* Sincerely, Karen Malec, Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer

******* Texas warns of abortion-cerebral palsy link and becomes 1st state to tell women of procedure's connection to disease.
******* 2003 WorldNetDaily.com
******* The state of Texas is now informing women considering an abortion that the procedure boosts the risk of delivering a future baby with cerebral palsy.
******* According to the Reduce Preterm Risk Coalition in Vancouver, Canada, Texas is the first state in the nation to officially make such a warning.
******* A state law, the Woman's Right to Know Act, requires all doctors to make available certain information to women contemplating an abortion. Included is the booklet "A Woman's Right to Know," published by the Texas Department of Health, which contains the warning about cerebral palsy and other diseases for which premature babies are at high risk.
******* "Some large studies have reported a doubling of the risk of
premature birth in later pregnancy if a woman has had two induced abortions," the booklet reads. "The same studies report an 800 percent increase in the risk of extremely early premature births for a woman who has experienced four or more induced abortions. Very premature babies, who have the highest risk of death, also have the highest risk for lasting disabilities, such as mental retardation, cerebral palsy, lung and gastrointestinal problems, and vision and
hearing loss."
******* Cerebral palsy is caused by damage to one or more specific areas of the brain, usually occurring during fetal development or during infancy. It affects movement and posture.
******* The Texas booklet also mentions the established link between abortion and breast cancer:
******* "Your chances of getting breast cancer are affected by your pregnancy history. If you have carried a pregnancy to term as a young woman, you may be less likely to get breast cancer in the future. However, you do not get the same protective effect if your pregnancy is ended by an abortion. The risk may be higher if your first pregnancy is aborted."
******* As WorldNetDaily reported, scientists authoring a study examining a variety of physical and psychological consequences associated with abortion have recommended women be informed about the abortion-breast cancer link.
******* Dr. John M. Thorpe, an epidemiologist at the University of North Carolina's School of Public Health, and his colleagues called for physicians to inform women about increased breast cancer risk associated with induced abortion and about the existence of research examining abortion as an independent risk factor for breast cancer.
******* "A young woman with an unintended pregnancy clearly sacrifices the protective effect of a term delivery should she decide to abort and delay childbearing," wrote the authors. "Thus, we conclude that informed consent before induced abortion should include information about the subsequent risk of preterm delivery and depression."

******* The following press release concerns efforts in some state legislatures to require doctors and/or state health departments to inform women about the increased risk of breast cancer. The press release contains an action item encouraging our supporters to contact their state legislators and voice their opinions about the issue.
******* The Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer notes that Georgia and other states are considering informed consent legislation that would require state health departments and/or doctors to tell women about the breast cancer risks of abortion.
******* Three years ago, a widely reported scientific review of 47 studies in 30 countries reported that breast cancer rates in developed nations could be cut by over 50% if women would have more children and breastfeed them longer. [1]
******* Experts agree that increased childbearing, starting before age 24, provides the best way to prevent breast cancer. Biological evidence shows that a third trimester process in pregnancy provides the only mechanism for a woman to mature her breast tissue into cancer-resistant tissue. [2]
******* Common sense says you can't have more children and breastfeed them if you also abort your pregnancies.
******* Experts agree that the woman who chooses to abort has an increased breast cancer risk in comparison to the woman who carries her pregnancy to term. They disagree whether the woman who aborts has an increased risk in comparison to the effect of never having had that pregnancy. A pregnant woman, however, doesn't have the choice of never having had that pregnancy.
******* "Would lawmakers deprive a pregnant woman of her right to know about recognized cancer risks of abortion? asked Karen Malec, president of the coalition."
******* Several medical groups recognize that abortion raises risk beyond the loss of the protective effect of childbearing by leaving the woman with more cancer-vulnerable breast tissue. [3]
******* Before abortion was legalized in 1973, one in twelve American women developed the disease in her lifetime. Today, one in seven develops it.
******* "Hopefully, lawmakers want to reduce female breast cancer rates," declared Mrs. Malec. "Two medical malpractice lawsuits in the U.S. and two in Australia have been successfully prosecuted because doctors didn't warn women about the increased risks of breast cancer and psychological harm. [4,5,6]
******* "Depriving women of their rights will only cause more women to file - and win - malpractice lawsuits."
******* The facts would lead any reasonable person to the right conclusion. We encourage our supporters in all states to contact their elected officials and other policy-makers and share their views on this important issue.

******* item 4 SECOND SUCCESSFUL ABORTION-CANCER LAWSUIT IN U.S. COMPLETED
******* from Lifesite News
******* PORTLAND, January 26, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) Monday marked the completion of a successful lawsuit against an abortion clinic and a physician for performing an abortion on a 15-year-old girl without informing her of the psychological risks and the increased risk of breast cancer. It is the second abortion-cancer lawsuit to be successfully prosecuted in the U.S. and the first case to obtain a judgment.
******* The Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer, a womens group which has worked for years to have the scientific and medical communities come clean on the known link between abortion and breast cancer applauded the decision. Karen Malec, president of the coalition told LifeSiteNews.com that recently the National Catholic Bioethics Center confirmed abortion is related to breast cancer and chastised the scientific community for being too cowardly to speak out against politically motivated "shoddy research manufactured to show no link.
******* All Women's Health Services, a clinic in Portland, Oregon, made an offer of judgment last year, allowing the plaintiff to win the lawsuit without a trial. The judge signed the agreement on January 24, 2005. The amount of the judgment is confidential.
******* The teenaged plaintiff has a family history of breast cancer and indicated a history of cancer on the clinic intake forms. According to research in 1994 by Janet Daling and her colleagues at Seattle's Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, teenagers with a family history of the disease who procure abortions before age 18 have an incalculably high breast cancer risk.
******* Abortions that occur before the birth of a first child are the most carcinogenic, a finding supported by biological and epidemiological evidence.
******* Malec, remarked, "Women have been told lies about the research and have been cruelly exploited by two industries - the breast cancer fundraising industry and the abortion industry. Women will not receive justice until they file civil lawsuits."

******* Fifty years of research is in and the record is now clear - abortion significantly increases the risk of breast cancer.
******* That's what one of the nation's premier researchers wrote in a paper published earlier this week. And the fact that no other major news organization has yet covered the comprehensive report by Joel Brind, a
professor of human biology and endocrinology at Baruch College, City University of New York and president of the Breast Cancer Prevention Center, is nearly as shocking as the findings of the paper.
******* Maybe the rest of the media were too busy exploring why Newsweek published a bogus story about a Quran in the toilet to notice a real story that affects the lives of millions of women.
******* In reviewing every single study of the link between abortion and breast cancer conducted since 1957, Brind found the evidence is conclusive. But he also found the results of those studies have often been twisted,
manipulated and distorted to downplay the connection.
******* Brind's study indicts not only the researchers, but government agencies and the news media for covering up the facts.
******* Of particular interest in the study is the fact that the greatest risk of breast cancer is faced by girls under the age of 18 who choose abortion. The risk is greatly compounded if there is any family history of breast cancer.
******* Now, I don't know why we still have debates in this country about matters as seemingly uncontroversial as whether parents have a right to consent to abortions by minor children. But we do. And as long as we do, this evidence needs to be heard, not only in state legislatures and in school board meetings, but by the American public.
******* Think about it. How many 16-year-old girls even know about family histories of breast cancer? How many 16-year-old girls are in a position to evaluate future risks - 20, 30, 40 years down the road - of breast
cancer? How many parents would want their 16-year-old girls making such life-and-death decisions without their knowledge?
******* But that's exactly what the abortion industry has wrought on this country and on the parents and children of America.
******* Any research that shows abortion to be anything but a "safe" procedure is spiked by the press, by international agencies like the World Health
Organization, U.S. government agencies like the National Cancer Institute, the professional medical associations and even charities such as the American
Cancer Society.
******* why does the baby-killing business have such a stranglehold on these powerful institutions? Why the headlong rush to terminate innocent life at any cost, even the health of the mother?
******* For years, the abortion-on-demand crowd has clung to the line that abortion is the safest choice for a pregnant girl or woman, safer than bringing a baby to term. The breast cancer link shatters that myth. And there is a determination by those forces to keep this dirty little truth that abortion increases the risk of breast cancer a secret.
******* Try to imagine how evil this is. Not only do the pro-abortion forces give no thought to the life of an innocent child in the womb, they also give no
consideration to the health of the mother.
******* But the link is real. In fact, two recent court cases brought by women who were not told of the increased breast cancer risk before getting abortions have won damages by proving the connection to juries.
******* There are likely to be many more such cases until laws require there is informed consent about the long-term health risks before abortions are provided.

******* item 6 WORLD CONFERENCE ON BREAST CANCER EVICTS MEMBERS OF THE ABORTION / BREAST CANCER COALITION
******* From: [email protected] and [email protected]
******* Date: Sun, 19 Jun 2005
******* Reply To: [email protected]
******* Dear Friends:
******* Organizers of the World Conference on Breast Cancer evicted women who were educating conference attendees about the link between abortion and increased breast cancer risk. Conference organizers used a lame excuse to justify their eviction. They suggested that Muslim women were offended by use of the word "abortion." It's far more likely that feminists needed to soothe their own psyches and protect the abortion industry, rather than women's lives.
******* Sincerely, Karen Malec, Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer
******* Feminists sometimes have a peculiar attitude about breast cancer. They argue that, if a risk factor for cancer causes some to feel guilty or to experience self-blame, then the truth should be swept under the rug. It's an odd viewpoint to hear from people supposedly dedicated to women's health. As a 15-year survivor of colon cancer, this writer finds it especially disturbing to hear this attitude expressed by some cancer survivors. Don't cancer survivors have an obligation to spare other women their own suffering? Is protecting one's own psyche more important than protecting other women's lives?
******* Nevertheless, feminist groups like Breast Cancer Action often reflect this attitude in their newsletters when research shows that diet and exercise influence breast cancer risk. It's acceptable to blame someone or something else for your cancer - a polluted environment, for instance - but it's not acceptable to consider that lifestyle might influence cancer risk, even if it might be the truth. The same peculiar argument might have been used to justify covering up some risk factors for cancer, such cigarette smoking.
******* Feminists use this reasoning, however, to suppress the truth about abortion as a risk factor for the disease, even though only one scientist has ever explained why only the youngest of three generations - the Roe v. Wade generation - suffered a more than 40% increase in breast cancer rates since the mid 1980's. He is Professor Joel Brind of the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute, and he says research shows that abortion is entirely responsible for the increase in breast cancer cases.
******* At the 1997 World Conference on Breast Cancer, Brind presented his team's findings from the previous year showing that abortion raises a woman's risk 30%-50%. [1] The World Conference published his abstract reporting the updated findings of Brind et al. 1996. [2]
******* Last week, the World Conference on Breast Cancer took place in Halifax. Conference organizers evicted women representing a Canadian group called Positive Options for Women because they distributed literature on the abortion-breast cancer (ABC) link.
******* Ellen Chesal, POW's director described what took place:
******* "On June 8th our booth was set up with banners that read 'Positive Options for Women - Abortion Breast Cancer Link.' There were 41 exhibitors and an estimated 600 people from more than 60 countries attending.
******* "On June 9th we were exhibiting from 7:30am till 3pm. Many women came to our booth and there was such a demand for our literature, we had to keep photocopying more. We had seven different fact sheets comprising information taken from the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute, Abortion Facts, the Coalition on Abortion Breast Cancer, Lifesite News, Concerned Women for America, etc. We estimated that at least 200 papers on fact sheets were distributed as well as the brochures that were on the table.
******* "The second day, June 10th, was much the same with regard to interest, except that we did have a visit from an irate board member of the Cancer Foundation. She was hostile and accused us of having a hidden agenda. (She stated) that we were anti-abortionists, (that) our facts were absolutely not true, and that we were trying to scare women from having an abortion. Another woman apologized for her behavior and said that she did not speak on behalf of the whole board.
******* "Later that same day Margo Burke (she worked with me putting things together for the Conference) and I were asked to attend a meeting with the organizing heads. There were three ladies present and introduced themselves as organizers for the World Conference. A Ms. Valerie Hepburn commenced the meeting by apologizing for the incident that occurred earlier and hoped that we weren't upset by it. She then proceeded to say that, although we have good intentions, and wanted to believe that we didn't have a hidden agenda, felt that our booth was upsetting women. At this point I gave her a copy of my letter, which certainly showed we had no hidden agenda. She was a bit taken aback and passed the letter on to the others. She then said regardless of whether we had permission to be there or not, our presentation was very upsetting to women. She explained that the conference was set up as a healing and coping strategy conference and our booth wasn't conducive to the goals of the conference...."
******* Conference organizers used a lame argument to justify evicting Chesal and her colleagues from the conference. They explained that Muslim women found the word "abortion" to be offensive. (It's far more likely that Chesal's message offended the sensitivities of left-wing feminists.) Chesal commented on her eviction:
******* "To sum up, I would say that POW is pleased that we were instrumental in providing information on the ABC link to hundredths of women, from every corner of the world. It is most unfortunate however, that not all women were given the opportunity to be informed about the most avoidable risk for breast cancer, and also that the World Conference on Breast Cancer found it necessary to suppress the women's right to know."
******* Abortion activists often like to suggest that women who educate the public about the ABC link have an "agenda." In their minds, having an agenda is a one-way street. Abortion activists couldn't possibly have an agenda. It's a shame that they can't unite with their ideological opponents for the sake of preserving women's lives. Abortion ideology, soothing one's psyche and the feminist lifestyle are just too important for that.
******* Breast cancer is a disease embraced by feminists in the 1980's as their cause, and perhaps rightly so. After all, the feminists' anti-childbearing lifestyle is largely responsible for high rates of female breast cancer in developed nations. Feminists encouraged women to delay the birth of a first child, to leave their homes, focus on careers and have smaller families. They said that having access to abortion, using (carcinogenic) steroidal estrogens (found in oral contraceptives) and being sterilized were "reproductive rights" that were absolutely crucial for every woman's "reproductive health."
******* It mattered little that research showed otherwise. Scientists knew as early as the 17th Century that childbearing protects women from breast cancer. In fact, medical literature reveals that the single most important thing a woman can do to prevent breast cancer is to have an early first full term pregnancy before age 24. [3,4] Childbearing provides women with the only means of maturing their breast tissue into cancer-resistant tissue. It's a third trimester process in pregnancy that accomplishes this feat; and the sooner a woman develops this tissue, the better off she is when she's exposed to a carcinogen.
******* Why aren't left-wing feminists telling women?
******* It was in the 1980's that feminist business women developed their breast cancer fundraising businesses. They told the press that breast cancer was uniquely their issue. By 1986, it became clear to U.S. government scientists that biological, epidemiological and experimental evidence supported abortion as a risk factor for breast cancer. [5] Might the evidence of abortion as a risk factor for breast cancer have influenced the proliferation of breast cancer fundraising businesses?
******* Today, feminists who lead the cancer fundraising industry fiercely defend their religious sacrament of abortion against any efforts to recognize it as a risk factor. It matters not that they are destroying the future for millions of young people around the world who are contemplating abortions. Nor does it matter that women who've had abortions are losing critical opportunities to undertake risk reduction measures and seek early detection for the disease. Their callousness is breathtaking.

******* item 7 TEENS AT GREATEST RISK FOR BREAST CANCER AND FUTURE PREMATURE BIRTH AFTER ABORTION

******* Date: Sun, 14 Aug 2005
******* Date: 8/11/2005 12:13:16 PM Pacific Standard Time
******* Reply To: [email protected]
******* Dear Friends:
******* Canadian researcher Brent Rooney, director of the Vancouver-based Reduce Preterm Risk Coalition, reports in his article that teenagers, especially African American teens, fall into a high risk group for breast cancer and a future premature birth if they have abortions. This is due to the immaturity of their organs.
******* Rooney cited epidemiological evidence, a 1994 study by Janet Daling et al., to support his argument on the breast cancer risk. Epidemiological evidence reveals whether or not there is a correlation between a particular exposure (in this case, abortion) and a disease (breast cancer).
******* However, readers of our e-newsletter know the biological reason for this phenomenon. Childless teenagers only have primitive, cancer-vulnerable Types 1 and 2 breast lobules, otherwise known as terminal ductal lobular units (TDLU's). Scientists say that cancers develop in TDLU's. The most cancer-vulnerable time in a woman's life occurs during the period between the onset of menstruation (when breast lobules are overexposed to estrogen with each monthly menstrual cycle) and the birth of a first child.
******* When teens are overexposed to estrogen - whether it's due to use of oral contraceptives or the procurement of an abortion - the exposure to this carcinogen takes place during the most carcinogenic time in their lives. During a normal pregnancy (not most miscarriages), estrogen does two things. It initiates cancer by directly damaging DNA, and it stimulates the multiplication of breast lobules.
******* A third trimester process protects women from estrogen overexposure. It shuts off breast cell multiplication and matures the breast tissue into cancer-resistant, milk-producing Types 3 and 4 lobules.
******* Women who carry their pregnancies to term are left with more cancer-resistant lobules than they had before their pregnancies began. This explains why women with larger families and women, who start their families at a younger age, have a lower lifetime risk for the disease.
******* Women who have abortions not only miss out on that third trimester protective process, but they also are left with an increased number of cancer vulnerable Types 1 and 2 breast lobules.
******* If doctors want to adequately screen women for breast cancer, they must revise their patient intake forms. This will benefit doctors because it will reduce the number of medical malpractice lawsuits claiming failure to diagnose breast cancer or failure to diagnose it early. Doctors need to ask patients about their abortion histories, the timing of their abortions (i.e., before or after first full term pregnancy, age at time of abortion, number of abortions) and family history of the disease.
******* Rooney offers two links to medical journal articles on the abortion-premature birth link that he has authored. The first web address is linked to a paper in the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons in which he and his colleagues reviewed research on this link that has accumulated since 1963.
******* The second web address is a letter to the editor of that journal on the topic of "Informed Consent for Abortion." In his letter, Rooney discusses warnings from Texas and Michigan state health departments on the risk of premature birth due to abortion. He also reports that the Communist Hungarian government recognized the abortion-premature birth connection and, as a result, restricted access to abortion in the 1970's.
******* Action Item: Save the life of a teen. Spread the word to your family, your friends and your doctor. Doctors can check our "Dear Doctor" letter on our website for references and images of Types 1, 2 and 3 lobules.

******* "Teen Abortions More Than Double Breast Cancer Risk / There is also a 'preemie' risk"
******* By Brent Rooney, Reduce Preterm Risk Coalition, Vancouver, Canada
August, 2005
******* In 1994 Dr. Janet Daling (Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center) et al. reported in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute that women who had induced abortions before age 18 multiplied their risk of breast cancer by 2.5 . (1) This 150% boost in relative breast cancer risk for under age 18 abortions is triple the overall risk increase of 50% for women in general in the 'Daling' study in Washington state. (1)
******* In 2003 the overwhelming evidence for the prematurity risk of prior induced abortions was presented in two review articles published in peer-reviewed medical journals. (2,3) Teenage SIAs (Surgical Induced Abortions) produce an even greater risk of subsequent premature births, since such procedures have a greater than normal risk of infection and weakened cervix. (4,5,6,7). Teen U.S. women are 2 1/2 times as likely as women over 19 to have second trimester abortions; such procedures are a significant risk for a very weakened cervix. (8) Black American women have triple the rate of elective abortions as Caucasian women. (9) Thus, the most disparate impact of future prematurity risk lies with black American teenagers.

******* item 8 TRENDS AND RISK FACTORS IN ENGLISH WOMEN'S BREAST CANCER
******* From: [email protected] via [email protected]
******* Date: Tue, 13 Jul 2004
******* Reply To: [email protected]
******* Dear Friends:
******* The British Journal of Cancer reported on a presentation given at a large cancer research conference this week in Manchester entitled "Trends and Risk Factors in English Breast Cancers."
******* The Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer is providing a press release with links (below) to a set of three graphs showing the trends in English breast cancers.
******* At the British Cancer Research Meeting 2004 in Manchester, Patrick Carroll, director of research for the Pension and Population Research Institute in London, demonstrated that, in general, the best predictor of breast cancer among British women is legal induced abortion.
******* More specifically, nulliparous abortions (abortions before first full term pregnancy), which occur with greater frequency among upper class women, were the best predictor of English breast cancer trends. Although upper class women have better access to health care than do lower class women, English upper class women are more likely to develop breast cancer and to die of their breast cancers than lower class women.
******* Upper class women typically choose to pursue their careers and their educations before starting their families. They're more likely to choose to abort a pregnancy in order to postpone the birth of a first child.
******* Carroll calls nulliparous abortions "highly carcinogenic." English upper class women are having their abortions during the most carcinogenic time in a woman's life - the time between the onset of her menstrual periods and her first full term pregnancy.
******* This is supported by biological evidence and the rationale for the abortion-breast cancer link. Russo and Russo have shown in their research that breast tissue maturity influences the development of breast cancer.
******* Girls have cancer-vulnerable Type 1 breast lobules at birth which look very primitive and resemble a branch from a very young lilac bush during the winter.
******* Type 1 breast lobules have many terminal ductal lobular units known as TDLU's where cancers are known to develop. Women with breast cancer who also have children have a greater percentage of TDLU's than do women without breast cancer who have children. Having more TDLU's simply means there are more places for cancer to start.
******* At puberty, estrogen stimulates Type 2 breast lobules to develop. These are still immature and cancer-vulnerable. Estrogen, a recognized carcinogen, stimulates a woman's Type 1 and 2 breast cells during every monthly menstrual cycle. The more monthly menstrual cycles a woman has during the course of her life, the higher her breast cancer risk is.
******* Starting early in pregnancy, women are overexposed to estrogen which stimulates breast growth. Types 1 and 2 breast lobules multiply. The woman who has an abortion at this time is left with an increased number of Types 1 and 2 breast lobules. However, if she continues her pregnancy, a third trimester process protects her from estrogen overexposure.
******* Only one mechanism matures breast tissue into cancer-resistant Types 3 and 4 breast lobules - a third trimester process in pregnancy called "differentiation." This is why epidemiologists have found that the earlier a woman has a first full term pregnancy, the lower her lifetime risk is for breast cancer. This is also why women with larger families have a lower lifetime risk for the disease.
******* Types 3 and 4 breast lobules resemble the branch of a lilac bush in bloom. They not only look different from Types 1 and 2 lobules, but they behave differently. Types 1 and 2 lobules grow faster in vitro than Type 3 lobules and have a shorter doubling time than Type 4 lobules.
******* This is why nulliparous abortions are highly carcinogenic. The period between menarche and and a first full term pregnancy is a critical time in a woman's life when she is most susceptible to carcinogens.
******* Doctors compound the problem when they prescribe oral contraceptives to women before their first full term pregnancies or after an abortion. Like hormone replacement therapy, oral contraceptives contain steroidal estrogens. Steroidal estrogens are on the nation's list of known carcinogens.
******* Please see the press release, graphs and text in the hyperlinks below and spread the word.

******* item 9 EIGHTH MEDICAL ORGANIZATION ACKNOWLEDGES ABORTION-BREAST CANCER LINK (Coaltioon on Abortion/Breast Cancer Press Release www.AbortionBreastCancer.com)
******* Date: April 4, 2006
******* Cristina Santos, MD, president of the Philippine Foundation for Breast Care, Inc. (PFBCI), acknowledged the abortion-breast cancer link in a letter addressed to the Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer. [1]Denise Mountenay, founder and president of Canada Silent No More, was PFBCI's guest speaker at a breast cancer forum in February. The Coalition provided resources for the forum and assisted Mountenay in identifying appropriate research papers. [2,3,4] Karen Malec, president of the Coalition, said, "We are thankful for the courage shown by Dr. Santos, her board of trustees and members of PFBCI in acknowledging the link." Santos was impressed by the physiological changes that take place in the breasts. During the first two trimesters of pregnancy, the hormone, estrogen - a recognized carcinogen - increases dramatically and stimulates cancer-vulnerable Types 1 and 2 breast lobules to multiply, thereby causing breast growth.
******* At 32 weeks gestation, another process - "differentiation" - protects women from estrogen. It shuts off the ability of the cells in Types 1 and 2 lobules to multiply and matures the lobules into cancer-resistant Types 3 and 4 lobules.
******* [For further information, see: ]These breast slides show striking differences in lobule maturity:.Eight medical organizations acknowledge that abortion leaves women with more cancer-vulnerable lobules. Additionally, the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, acknowledged this as "highly plausible" in 2003.The cancer establishment acknowledges another risk - the later a woman has a first full term pregnancy, the greater her breast cancer risk is. The later she matures her breast tissue into cancer-resistant tissue (by having a child), the greater her risk is.Even an expert witness testifying in 1999 for the Center for Reproductive Rights, Lynn Rosenberg, Ph.D. of Boston Medical School, agreed that a woman who aborts her first pregnancy is more likely to get breast cancer, than a woman who carries her first pregnancy to term. ******* item 10 BREAST CANCER DROP TIED TO HORMONES
******* By MARILYNN MARCHIONE, AP Medical Writer Fri Dec 15, 2006
******* SAN ANTONIO - The millions of women who quit taking menopause hormones after a big federal study found that the pills raised the risk of breast cancer now have more reason to be glad they stopped.
******* A new analysis reveals that U.S. breast cancer rates plunged more than 7 percent in 2003 and strongly suggests that the reason is less hormone use.
******* "It's a big deal ... amazing, really," said one of the researchers, Dr. Rowan Chlebowski of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. "It's better than a cure" because these are cases that never occurred, he said.
******* About 14,000 fewer women were diagnosed with the disease than had been expected, researchers reported Thursday at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium.
******* Cancers take years to form, so going off hormones would not instantly prevent new tumors. But tumors that had been developing might stop growing, shrink or disappear, so they were no longer detected by mammograms, doctors theorized.
******* Cases dropped most among women 50 and older the age group taking hormones. The decline was biggest for tumors whose growth is fueled by estrogen the type most affected by hormone use.
******* In fact, when both factors were combined older women with estrogen-positive tumors the drop was 12 percent.
******* The decline was seen in every single cancer registry that reports information to the federal government, and no big change occurred with any other major type of cancer. These are strong signs that the breast cancer decline is no statistical fluke or error.
******* A separate study by the American Cancer Society, currently in press with a medical journal, also documents the drop in cases. Lead author Ahmedin Jemal attributes two-thirds of it to a decline in hormone use and the rest to mammography use leveling off, resulting in fewer tumors being detected.
******* "We are really trying to look at the big picture," he said. "You cannot rule out the effect of screening."
******* Breast cancer is the most common major cancer in American women and the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women. About 213,000 new cases are expected to occur in the United States this year and more than 1 million worldwide.
******* Incidence in the United States rose almost 2 percent per year from 1990 to 1998, then began to slightly decrease, said Dr. Peter Ravdin of the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, who led the analysis presented at the Texas conference.
******* In July 2002, the federal Women's Health Initiative study was stopped after more breast cancers and heart problems occurred among women taking estrogen-progestin pills.
******* That led to new warning labels on the drugs and doctor groups urging women to use the lowest dose for the shortest time possible for hot flashes and other menopause symptoms.
******* Within a year, about half of women who had been taking hormones stopped. Prescriptions had been steady at around 22 million each quarter, but plummeted to 12.7 million in the last quarter of 2003, according to IMS Health, which tracks drug sales.
******* Breast cancer rates declined, too. In 2002, there were roughly 134 cases per 100,000 women a 2.5 percent drop from about 137 the previous year. In 2003, there were only 124 cases per 100,000 women about a 7 percent drop over 2002. That is the most significant decline in the breast cancer rate since records have been kept beginning in the 1970s.
******* Researchers saw an even stronger trend when they looked month-to-month. Cases dropped 6 percent in the first half of 2003 and 9 percent in the second half.
******* "Consistently across the entire year, there appeared to be a trend toward decrease," Ravdin said.
******* Estrogen-sensitive tumors declined twice as much as tumors that are not fueled by estrogen. The decline in incidence among women ages 50-69 was three times that of other age groups.
******* The numbers come from the National Cancer Institute's surveillance database, which uses cancer registries around the country to project national incidence and death rates.
******* When the 2003 numbers were first released a few months ago, they were grouped with 2001 and 2002 and portrayed as a leveling off of breast cancer after decades of steady rise. The big single-year drop was not pointed out.
******* "You don't want to overinterpret one point" without knowing whether it is a trend, said Kathy Cronin, a National Cancer Institute statistician who worked on the new analysis.
******* "The major health organizations have been cautious because of not wanting to call attention to something of this much interest to everyone prematurely," said Dr. Michael Thun of the cancer society.
******* Ravdin disagreed.
******* "It doesn't have to be a trend to be real," he said. "Such a rapid effect is most consistent with the idea that cancers that were already there ... were actually being stopped in their growth to the point where they would not be detected."
******* It is not known whether these tumors will regress and never become a problem or just take longer to show up, he said.
******* However, doctors already know that withdrawing hormones causes tumors to shrink. If a woman with estrogen-sensitive breast cancer has her ovaries removed, "her tumor will stop growing immediately," Ravdin said.
******* Dr. JoAnn Manson, a women's health expert at Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston who has a new book out on hormones and menopause, thinks the big drop in breast cancer cases could be due to hormones, "especially a reduction in long duration of use."
******* "It's also possible that a trend toward lower doses of hormones has played a role," she said.
******* She and other doctors are continuing to study women in the big federal study who had been on hormones and then quit.
******* Federal statistics for 2004 are expected in April. Information from one large registry, California's, published recently in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, hints that the trend is continuing.
******* Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, which makes the hormone pills Prempro and Premarin, may not be much affected by the new data, said Deutsche Bank analyst Barbara Ryan. Most women are already aware of the drugs' risks and those that choose to use them do so only for a short time, she said.
******* "I wouldn't expect a big impact."

******* From: "Denise Mountenay" FROM CANADA SILENT NO MORE Contact Denise Mountenay Founder/President 780-939-5774
******* Date: Tue, 17 Oct 2006
******* WOMEN WHO'VE HAD LEGAL ABORTIONS ARE OUTRAGED THAT CANCER SOCIETIES REFUSE TO WARN WOMEN ABOUT MORE THAN 2 DOZEN STUDIES LINKING BREAST CANCER TO ABORTION!
******* Canada Silent No More is a registered non profit society of post abortive women, reaching out to the thousands of other women across Canada who have been hurt and/or damaged by legal abortion physically or emotionally. "We are furious that cancer societies are denying credible research proving that induced abortion indeed is significantly linked to Breast Cancer, a deadly disease", states Denise Mountenay Founder/President.
******* We thank the cancer organizations for the good they do, and we understand that it may be politically incorrect for them to say anything negative about abortion as they rely on millions of dollars in donations and from government coffers to pay for their gross salaries, office and expenses every year.
******* However, we are shouting from the roof tops that women have a right to know that if they choose to have an abortion they could be choosing breast cancer! It has to do with the estrogens factor, the science is clear, the common sense astounding. It is un-refuted that high doses of estrogens can become carcinogenic over time. That is why hormone replacement therapy is now taboo and long term use of birth control pills can also lead to cancer.
******* When a healthy woman is pregnant, naturally 2,000 times the estrogens are pumped into her breasts in the first trimester to later become milk. An induced abortion artificially terminates that pregnancy, so these cells never get to differentiate and mature to breast milk as intended for the newborn: thus leaving these cells to stagnate. See www.abortionbreastcancer.com and The Breast Cancer Prevention Institute at www.bcpinstitute.org and www.afterabortion.org for references and research.
******* The two million post abortive women, friends and families will be outraged to learn that these studies have been around for many years and kept under cover! While cancer societies and foundations are flourishing in sponsors, money and rhetoric…breast cancer rates continue to rise and more women are being diagnosed and dying every year.
******* It is unconscionable that they belittle the mountain of evidence, and refuse to warn women about the link between abortion and breast cancer as a preventable risk factor! To date eight medical associations, only one breast cancer society, a number of Physicians and Breast Cancer surgeons are acknowledging the link.
******* We urge the cancer societies to do the right thing and warn women of this link, it is a matter of life and death.

******* item 12 SNUBBING CANCER STUDY WILL ONLY HURT WOMEN - By Dennis Byrne October 22, 2007
******* Research showing link to abortion ignored by media
******* During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it is fitting and proper that women be informed about any newly discovered dangers, even as the public groans under the weight of all the warnings surrounding the mere act of living.?******* For example, a well-researched Chicago Tribune story last week disclosed that women who have just a couple of alcoholic drinks daily increase their breast cancer risk by 13 percent. Coincidentally, a new study reported that abortion is an important breast cancer risk factor, yet I couldn't find a word describing the research in mainstream media.?******* How to explain this disparity? I'll be vigorously advised that "most" studies disprove an abortion-breast cancer link. Or that the study in question appeared in a "conservative" scientific journal. Or that the study is bogus or unimportant. Or, more rudely, that the whole breast cancer argument has been concocted by anti-abortion rights advocates to make women afraid to have abortions. The issue is dead, I'll be notified. Kaput. Here I would remind critics that in science it's not who says it or how many say it that counts. What does count are the data and the rigor with which they are collected, analyzed and held up to a scientifically credible hypothesis.?******* So let's look at the science of this latest study, which appeared in the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons. Using statistical techniques and reliable national health data, the study of eight European countries found, to a statistically significant degree, that the incidence of breast cancer increases with the incidence of earlier abortions. The researcher, Patrick Carroll, used the same mathematical model employed in a 1997 study that predicted with extraordinary accuracy breast cancer increases in England and Wales from 1998 to 2004. Using that model, Carroll predicts that countries with higher abortion rates -- England and Wales -- could expect a troubling increase in breast cancer rates. The Irish Republic and Northern Ireland, where abortion rates are lower, should experience a smaller increase. And in Denmark and Finland, where abortion rates have declined, cancer rates should similarly decline. Some will object because the study is "only" epidemiological -- meaning that it relies on a statistically significant relationship between the incidence of breast cancer and abortion to infer that one causes the other. The standard, but simple-minded, objection to epidemiological studies is that a correlation does not necessarily prove causation. That's true, to some extent. But, epidemiologists use correlations in more complex ways, combining them with a range of medical, sociological, psychological and other information to lead their research in the right direction, to support or debunk hypotheses, and toward solutions for significant public health problems.?******* In the study of the abortion-breast cancer link, the working hypothesis is simple: For a woman who has not had a child before, an induced abortion is more likely to cause cancer because it interrupts the hormonal development of breast cells for later lactation, thus leaving the cells more vulnerable to uncontrolled and abnormal division, i.e. cancer.?******* The problem with dismissing the Carroll study because it is epidemiological is that you'll also have to dismiss a multitude of public health studies, including ones claiming a link between radon and lung cancer. These are the same epidemiological studies that alarmed millions of Americans, frightening them into buying radon detectors and creating a huge radon mitigation business. No study is perfect, and Carroll's shortcoming is that his data do not allow comparisons of individual women over time. But other major studies have, and according to one unchallenged compressive analysis of those studies, they show that a pregnant woman who has never had a child before and aborts in the first term increased her chance of breast cancer by 50 percent.?******* cience, by its nature, exists in an unsettled state. Evidence piles up on many sides. The public becomes unsettled. The media, as is their wont, avoid the complexities, especially when the complexities challenge preconceived or prevalent political notions. Instead of coming to grip with such concepts as epidemiology, they escape into silence. And ill-serve the public.?******* Speaking of media credibility, or lack of it, the conservative blogosphere is buzzing with the mainstream media's failure to report retired Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez' scathing criticism of the press in a recent speech. Yet, the media gave wide coverage when, in the same speech, he criticized America's conduct of the war. His criticism of the media would have resonated with millions who question the media's integrity and balance. Having been in this business for almost 40 years, I'm ashamed of and unable to understand my profession's utter dereliction when it comes to reporting its own failures.?******* http://dennisbyrne.blogspot.com
