( A4e2b3a1d2b1a1) response to opression and mistreatment of Dr. Chris Kempling by British Columbia (Canada) College of Teachers

Public response to Dr. Chris Kempling's mistreatment by the BC College of Teachers (BCCT) has been overwhelmingly in support of him. However, those in the best positions to help Dr. Kempling have been slow in coming to his aid. Some have even spoken against what he has done. ******* Perhaps Dr. Kempling can draw some comfort, strength and final perseverance from the words of Abraham Kuyper, 1837-1920, who said "When the principles that run against your deepest convictions begin to win the day, then the battle is your calling, and peace has become sin. You must at the price of dearest peace lay your convictions bare before friend and enemy with all the fire of your faith." ********************************************************************************************************************** As of this date 06-08-19, this folder contains 15 items. ********************************************************************************************************************** ******* item 1 SUPPORTIVE LETTER PUBLISHED IN THE 02-06-28 EDITION OF THE VANCOUVER (BC CANADA) PROVINCE ******* item 2 AN UNPUBLISHED LETTER, WRITTEN BY WALTER SZETELA, TO THE VANCOUVER PROVINCE ******* item 3 A VANCOUVER PROVINCE LETTER OPPOSED TO WHAT SUSAN MARTINUK WROTE ABOUT CHRIS KEMPLING ******* item 4 AN ARTICLE SUPPORTIVE OF CHRIS KEMPLING, WRITTEN BY JOHN McKELLAR, THE FOUNDER OF HOPE - HOMOSEXUALS OPPOSED TO PRIDE EXTREMISM ******* item 5 DESCRIPTION OF CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF SOCIAL JUSTICE AND FAMILY VALUES ASSOCIATION'S (CASJAFVA'S) SUPPORT FOR CHRIS KEMPLING ******* item 6 MERLE TERLESKY'S LETTER TO NEWSPAPERS ******* item 7 CHRIS KEMPLING APPRECIATION CAMPAIGN ******* item 8 ONLY A FEW DEFENDED THE TEACHER - BY TED BYFIELD -- EDMONTON SUN ******* item 9 BC COLLEGE OF TEACHERS' DOUBLE STANDARD IN DISCIPLINING TEACHERS ******* item 10 FREE SPEECH FALLS PREY TO 'HUMAN RIGHTS' ******* item 11 MY IMPASSIONED ESSAY IN DEFENCE OF CHRIS KEMPLING ******* item 12 HATE CRIMES AND BILL C415 (NOW BILL C250) ******* item 13 RESPONSE TO PROVINCE ARTICLE ON DR. Mr. Kempling's "misconduct" as judged by the BCCT court of inquisition was to write letters to express his disgreement with same-sex pension legislation and educational policy on sexuality. The message of the College to BC teachers which has the power to remove Mr. Kempling's teaching licence is to be silent if their opinions and views conflict with the Big Brothers and Sisters of the College. The College which tried to stifle instruction at Trinity Western University, thankfully disavowed by the Canada Supreme Court, is clearly in breach of freedom of expression and itself needs to amend its ways. ******* Sincerely, ******* Walter Szetela, ( Prof. Emeritus, UBC) 604-943-7159 ****************************************************************************************************************** ******* item 3 A VANCOUVER PROVINCE LETTER OPPOSED TO WHAT SUSAN MARTINUK WROTE ABOUT CHRIS KEMPLING ******* The Province ******* Friday, June 28, 2002 ******* As an avid reader of The Province, I am once again deeply offended by Susan Martinuk's opinion. ******* I agree everyone is entitled to one but when numerous Martinuk columns include gay-bashing, it leads me to believe The Province feels the same way. ******* If a columnist was consistently bashing Jews or Asians, don't you think the community would be up in arms? I am an openly gay male whose political philosophy tends toward libertarianism. HOPE is a non partisan, non sectarian gay lobby group which I formed in 1997 to a) expose the lies, myths, distortions and propaganda of modern gay activism, b) deconstruct the oppression and victimology politics, c) to give a credible voice to happy, successful and independent gays and lesbians who don't wake up every day finding "hate, bigotry and discrimination" under the bed, and who don't go running to the courts, the governments or the human rights commissions for a lifetime of therapeutic preferences. ******* Over the past five years, my supposedly contoversial stance has brought me considerable media attention, writing articles or being written about in both the gay and mainstream press and participating in radio and television interviews and debates. In April 2001, I was asked to prepare an affidavit to intervene on behalf of the respondents in the same-sex marriage cases heard in the Supreme Court of British Columbia. Similarly, in October 1998, I acted as intervenor in defense of the Mayor of Fredericton, NB, who was facing a human rights tribunal for refusing to declare Gay Pride Day. And in November 2001, I was a witness for Ken Campbell who was appearing before a BC human rights tribunal. Besides being an honour and a privilege, this shows my opinions and statements to be valid and worthy - not "discriminatory and derogatory" as the BCCT absurdly alleges ******* 2. The most disturbing and insidious aspect of this case is that, while the articles and letters written by the respondent are based on research, statistics, truth and empirical evidence, the objections of the complainant are based on sentiment, bias, inexperience and slavish adherence to current cant. Moreover, the censorious and contrived nature of this citation and subsequent censure is disrespectful and insulting to those gays and who don't blindly embrace the party-line rhetoric of gay activism and who clearly understand the difference between conduct and orientation and between personal and political issues. ******* 3. Whether or not the failure of the BCCT to distinguish between sexual orientation and sexual conduct is deliberate or otherewise, I'll leave for others to speculate. Regardless of derivation, this egregious error must be corrected with immediacy and thoroughness, lest continued misinformation further deforms the education system. Numerous times throughout this citation, references are made to the importance of conveying love, concern, respect and consideration to all human beings. Similarly, there are several examples cited which address the fact that public schools must teach in accordance with the highest morality which includes non-discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation. One wonders how morality can be taught without constructive criticism of dangerous and destructive behaviour. And one wonders how open and candid discussion of aberrant conduct (of which I will offer plenty of illustrations) automatically implies or encourages discrimination. ******* 4. It is sadly unfathomable for me, as a connoisseur of scholastic excellence, that the modern school system has not only suffered irreparably from an incrementally dumbed-down curriculum over the past several decades, but has been perverted by the secular theocracy of "I tolerate, therefore I am". It is also weirdly ironic for me, as a gay man, to be condescendingly censured by some imperious, well-vetted members of a teachers federation who are totally clueless about gay lifestyle. And having studiously read the frivolous, vexatious and trumped-up citation against Mr Kempling - from the puerile skirmishes over letters to the editor, to the disconnected Charter references - I can confidently say that even a first year law student would receive a failing grade for presenting such flimsy, illogical and irrelevant arguments. I fully intent to make the BC Minister of Education aware of this flagrant injustice and unconscionable waste of taxpayers dollars. ******* 5. A well-respected Toronto journalist recently expressed to me her dismay that, despite the mainstreaming of Gay Pride ( in Toronto, it's in its 22nd year and is the second largest in the world), teenagers are still being harassed. For years, I've been warning that the primary contribution of Gay Pride is to reinforce evey public prejudice against us and to accelerate the inevitable backlash. Clearly, the gay and lesbian lobby has been naive in its beligerent confidence that "homophobia" will disappear with massive and forced education of the benighted. ******* But the fact is that such relentless indoctrination cannot be achieved without fascist obliteration of all individual freedoms. And since freedom is a hell of a lot more important than tolerance, you can rest assured that any perceived threat to freedom will result in a societal backlash which will guarantee oppression of all homosexuals. In fact, it's already starting - no thanks to the likes of the BCCT. ******* 6. Whatever society teaches or doesn't teach about homosexuality, no gay or lesbian, surrounded overwhelmingly by heterosexuals, will feel at home in his or her sexual and emotional world, even in the most tolerant of cultures. ******* At a young age we learn the rituals of deceit, impersonation and appearance, and anyone who believes political, social or even cultural revolution will change this fundamentally is denying reality. The unhappy truth is that male homosexuality will never be fully accepted by the heterosexual majority, who are obeying the dictates not of "bigoted' society or religion, but of procreative nature. Yet this desperation deepens our artistic insight and allows us to create civilization. Undoubtedly, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Tchaikovsky, Somerset Maugham, Gore Vidal et al, experienced hardship and alienation. But look what they gave to the world. Look how they advanced the cultural heritage. They were too cultivated, creative and cosmopolitan to be concerned with the trivialities of sexual pride, queer studies, diversity, heterosexism and whatever other pop-culture banality dominates our modern landscape. ******* Now compare those cultural giants with the drag queens who rioted at Stonewall - which became the genesis of todays cry-baby, monomaniacal gay liberation. From the exalted creativity of the Renaissance to the infantile vulgarity of Gay Pride, we've managed to dumb ourselves down to the level of barnyard animals. We've also managed to overpoliticize and polarize viewpoints, labeling people pro-gay or anti-gay with little room between. ******* As a gay male, I have no problem conceding that heterosexuality is and always will be the great human norm. But I'm sick and tired of a media culture that facilely equates homosexuality with heterosexuality and asks no deep questions about human psychology beyond the superficial liberal-vs.-conservative, freedom-vs.-oppression dichotomy. And I'm sick and tired of the sentimental, feel-good, liberal propaganda that is concealing and denying the blatant Nero-era decadence of so many gay men's lives, where compulsive, tunnel-vision promiscuity has become institutionalized. ******* 7. The sexual segregation of gay bars following Stonewall was bad for everyone. Seventies gay males, feeling ebullient from their newfound freedom and confidence, rapidly descended into a bachannalia of narcissism and promiscuity, closing the doors of their orgiastic bars to women and creating a paradise of pleasure that collapsed into the hell of AIDS. Midway through the AIDS epidemic, the media, having ignored homosexuality or treated it in a lurid manner, did a quick flip-flop under activist pressure and now continues its policy of unthinking cant by parroting the gay-establishment party line on every occasion. Thus, gay activists have earned a reputation as conspirators and casuists, because of their amoral tactics of deceit, defamation, intimidation and extortion. ******* 8. In their book, Homosexuality: A Study of Diversity Among Men and Women, which is widely considered the most thorough study of homosexual relationships to date, authors A.P.Bell and M.S.Weinberg chronicle the following: ******* 8% of men and 7% of women had relationships lasting more than 3 years. ******* 50% of gay males over the age of 30 and 75% of gay males over the age of 40 experienced no relationships that lasted more than one year. ******* 74% of male homosexuals reported having more than 100 partners during their lifetime, 41% more than 500 partners and 28% more than 1000 partners (sounds like some of my friends!). ******* 75% reported that more than half their partners were strangers and 65% reported that they had sex with more than half their partners only once. ******* 9. Dry, dull statistics to be sure, but necessary because the respondent cited the authors and because the complainants need to be educated. Inarguably, it is well documented that long-term relationships and fidelity are extremely rare in the gay world. From Hollywood Boy Parties to Fire Island, from Gay Pride to Gay Games, homosexual men are relentlessly searching for "Mecca" -- even if it's just for a weekend. ******* Even at the Annual Global Conference on AIDS, the nightlife is more noteworthy than the daytime activities. Every night the discos are packed with gay doctors, nurses, activists and researchers shamelessly cruising one another. Likewise, the bathhouses do land-office business. In spite of the solemnity and tragedy in dealing with a wasteful and fatal disease, the hedonistic, promiscuous, sex-carnival atmosphere never lets up. ******* 10. Among the most popular resource guides throughout the gay world are those which reverently chronicle cruising areas and hot-spots for anonymous sex -- bathhouses, parks, public washrooms, rural highways, big-city bus stations etc. Camille Paglia, outspoken author, lesbian and Professor of Humanities, commenting on the gay male art of cruising, stated: "If I were a man, I'm sure I would have gone whole hog for this -- the murky shadows, electric glances, risky chances and hit-and-run raids on bulging meat baskets. I can see the excitement of it and I understand gay men's addiction to it." She also said, "Those who base their lives on their carnal sexual identity - as so many gay men have done in the 30 years since Stonewall - will inevitably reap the whirlwind of nature's backlash." Indeed, sexual desire is intensified rather than quelled by boundaries and taboos and, at the end of the day, Eros will always defeat reason, prudence and common sense. ******* 11.One wonders how many members of the BCCT have attended a gay bathhouse. Or more specifically, which of the Holy Triumvirate comprising the Disiplinary Hearing Panel - Peter Myles, Karin Breuer and Josie Wilson. Before destroying the career and reputation of a fellow educator, whose heinous crime seems to be failing to bow before your secular fundamentalism, make a visit to one of these crucibles of disease and infection, reeking of the blended odour of human excrement and amyl nitrate (a.k.a. "poppers"), and hosting an endless parade of horny males overtly satiating their libidinal excesses. Unprotected oral and anal sex, fisting, water sports, unlimited partners and a deluge of bodily fluids. ******* Then make a quick pit stop to the Bute Street Clinic in Vancouver, and look at the young, fresh faces, many of whom you might recognize from the bathhouse, overflowing the waiting room. Hepatitis, gonorrhea, Chlamydia trachomatis, herpes simplex, syphillis, pubic lice, gay bowel syndrome, HIV. No need to worry, though, because science and medicine will be their salvation. ******* 12. It is important to recognize that the human condition is capable of both creative and destructive conduct and that a civilized society upholds and recognizes this distinction. Homosexuals have always been trendsetters, tastemakers and at the forefront of creativity in art, music, fashion, literature etc. ******* In recent times, however, we have massacred our most promising by ignoring, tolerating and embracing destructive conduct. It is civilized and compassionate to discriminate between creative and destructive behaviour. The correct and conventional meaning of "discrimination" has always been "refinement, perception, the ability to form opinions and the ability to discern", but these days it has been hijacked by the language and thought fascists who have fallaciously designated it a pejorative. ******* 13. Another word whose classical and true meaning has been distorted by current pop-culture and political correctness, is "pride". We've practically deified the word and, like Stalinists, we persecute and prosecute those who fail to pay homage. The dictionary defines pride as " inordinate self-esteem, an overweening opinion of one's own qualities and attainments that gives rise to superiority over and contempt for others". (It is any wonder that the gay lobby has designated this word as its chief mascot ?) ******* Pride is also one of the Seven Deadly Sins; it's destructive and divisive; it's the cause of most wars; it's responsible for the spread of AIDS. Happy, successful people are humble. If one needs to have pride, then be proud of your achievements, your compassion, your morality, your independence, your discipline. But pride in your sexual orientation? How shallow, narcissistic and infantile! ******* 14. One could fairly and legitimately ask who annointed HOPE or John McKellar to speak on behalf of any segment of the gay and lesbian community. A more pertinent question would be who authorized lobby groups, such as GALE BC, to bring their self-serving, tendentious agenda and their cultural angst into the schools. And how thoroughly have these activists been qualified and scrutinized. HOPE is completely unattached to all intents and purposes and seeks not to indoctrinate or reform, but to comment, criticize and inform. Obviously, I have my own opinions which I often express with caustic irreverence in order to match the imperious tone of the activists with whom I frequently debate. My core position and philosophy, however, has been cultivated from a lifetime of exposure to and observation of queer culture. Having studied and worked in the fields of music, education and journalism in Canada, the United States and Europe, I have developed a diverse and eclectic network of gay and lesbian friends and colleagues. Believe me, my life would be much simpler, less stressful and more fun if I abandoned HOPE, shut my mouth and kept to myself. ******* 15. I have often expressed the unfortunate but undeniable truth that the number of times one was called "faggot" in the schoolyard, is directly proportionate to the stridency of one's activism. Thus, special interest advocates, such as GALE BC, are comprised mostly of wounded and resentful individuals who should be receiving care and compassion rather than trying to dispense it. When you fancy yourself as an oppressed minority -- particularly one that is based on a basic human drive and compulsion -- you become obsessed with increasing you numbers, mainstreaming your behaviour and making the whole world your closet. You try to evoke guilt and intimidation by incessantly reiterating banal epithets, such as "hate", "homophobia", "intolerance", "teen suicide", "self-esteem" etc. You learn that the optimum way to ensure future supporters to your cause and ideology is through the minds of the young. You invoke sympathy, hide the truth and present a sanitized portrait of gay life. ******* 16. It is worth repeating that young people must be taught love and respect for all human beings. But introducing kindergarten and grade one students to alternative behaviours and lifestyles is insidious and unconscionable. Leave the kids alone and let them enjoy their short period of innocence and sexual latency. And when they approach puberty, balance the pop-culture media bombardment with messages of absinence, chastity, discipline and self-control. Tell the truth: When was the last time the words "promiscuous anal sex" ever appeared in sequence in the educational materials that government agencies and private AIDS groups disribute in the schools? Reveal the facts: There is no scientific study which has proven that condoms prevent the transmission of HIV, and "safe-sex" is a dangerous and destructive slogan designed to preserve lifestyle, not life. Stop presenting young gay men as pretty Saint Sebastians, martyred by benighted homophobes and the big bad authorities, and reflect instead on Oscar Wilde's hedonistic Dorian Gray, confronting his spiritual failures in his corroding portrait. ******* 17. The AIDS Catastrophe ******* One of the most hauntingly memorable days of my life -- which I recall as if it were yesterday -- occurred in 1981 during a telephone conversation with a friend, whose cousin was a physician in New York City. My friend told me there was a mysterious "gay cancer" running through the homosexual community in Manhatten, which was spread by anal sex, which produced lesions on the skin, which weakened the immune system by destroying white blood cells and which was 100% fatal. ******* Let me assure you that, as young, naive and perpetually horny as I was, that single conversation was all that was needed to put enough fear into me to forever alter my sexual activities. I wasn't a Rhodes Scholar or a rocket scientist, yet I clearly did not need further information, counselling or coaxing. The phrase "safe-sex" had not yet been coined but, believe me, I was practising it! ******** Alas, it was with great dismay that I watched the ravages of AIDS spread like wildfire and it was with great contempt that I observed how the activists carved careers for themselves, making a political circus out of this disease and trampling on the rights of the majority. Here we were confronted with the most easily preventible, difficult to acquire, behaviourally caused, fatal disease in the history of humankind -- and look at how the gay leadership responded to it. ******* To them, it was more important to change the name of this disease, which was originally called GRID (gay related immune deficiency), to the "less homophobic" AIDS. To them, it was more important to fight for the rights and the protection of those who suffer from this disease than to fight for the health and safety of the entire population. To them, it was more important to canonize the victims of this disease with commemorative walls, memorial quilts, vigils and galas than to condemn the behaviour that resulted in their death. To them, it was more important to distibute condoms than to declare a moratorium on promiscuous anal sex. Shame! ******* I can recall numerous times sharing with friends my bewilderment and frustration over why traditional public health measures for combating epidemics were not deployed against AIDS. Fifty years ago, those afflicted with tuberculosis had their homes quarantined and forty years ago, public swimming pools were closed during the polio epidemic. Throughout the sexual revolution of the 1960's and 1970's there was stringent and systematic follow-up for all those infected with gonorrhea, syphilis and herpes. But at a National Aids Conference in Denver Colorado in 1983, gay leaders declared: "We oppose any legislative attempts to restrict sexual activities or to close private clubs or bathhouses...we should never forget that we live in a homophobic society and that homophobia is the major threat to our health". ******* This childishly self-serving attitude sealed the fate of the gay communities still free of the virus. With less than 2000 cases nationwide, drastic measures -- the declaration of a health emergency in the affected areas, the closing of the bathhouses, testing among those at risk, contact tracing to warn those in the path of the infection -- might have stemmed the tide of the epidemic and eventually saved tens of thousands of lives. Yet gay leaders remained adamantly opposed to these measures because of the perceived stigmatization of the gay lifestyle. ******* As I observed the inexorable spread of AIDS, and the effects of the gay left to control, weaken and obstruct the measures to combat it, I could easily extrapolate the numbers who were going to die. By doubling the 4000 existing cases every six months for the next 10 years, I was able to calculate (accurately, in hindsite) that by 1994 there would be 200, 000 people -- mostly gay men, mostly in the bloom of youth -- who were going to die for an idea of liberation. And there wasn't a damn thing I or anyone else could do about it. ******* Sure, Ronald Reagan may have been unconcerned and uncommunicative about AIDS, but as my beloved lesbian sister, Camille Paglia, has often stated, the belligerent arrogance of the gay lobby uncorked the 20th century's second holocaust. Indeed, they have permanently blackened the rainbow. ******* So where are we in 2002? Well, we still have 20-year-olds, who weren't even born when AIDS first appeared in North America, becoming infected with HIV. We continue to introduce new, potent and costly anti-HIV drugs, none of which destroy the virus, but which give gay males a false confidence which is leading to high-risk sexual behaviour. We have an increasing number of gay websites, phonelines and classifieds promoting the growing desire for "bareback sex" and "extreme sex". Meanwhile, the gay lobby aggressively pushes itself into the schools to inculcate its tiresome "homophobia-heterosexism-tolerance" mantra. ******* Of course it's no accident or coincidence that the major sponsors of World AIDS Day and the ubiquitous Walk for AIDS are the international pharmaceutical companies (along with the condom manufacturers). And it's neither callous nor cynical to point out that there are big bucks to be made from each new AIDS patient. ******* Present sufferers deserve comfort and care, but the real challenge and focus must be to prevent this pandemic from entering its third decade. ******* 18. My activist brothers and sisters, along with their ever-willing accomplices in media and academia, relentlessly drum into the public psyche that homosexuality is "not a choice", because no-one would choose to be gay in a homophobic society. First of all, there is an element of choice in all behaviour. ******* Secondly, despite media fanfare and trendy hypotheses, there is no conclusive scientific evidence as to the biological, genetic, psychological and social influences on sexual orientation. The modern change in opinion concerning homosexuality, though presented as a scientific advance, is contradictred rather than supported by science. It is a transformation in public morals consistent with widespread abandonment of the Judeo-Christian ethics upon which our civilization is based. Though hailed as "progress", it is really a reversion to the ancient pagan practices supported by a counter-culture restatement of gnostic moral relativism. ******* 19. The average person comprehends neither the complexities of good biological research nor the extent to which politics has corrupted the scientific process. Although it may be impractical to "convert" totally from homosexuality to heterosexuality, if counselling can allow a gay man to respond sexually to women, it should be encouraged and applauded, not lambasted and lampooned. If a gay man wants to marry and sire children, he shouldn't be harrassed by gay activists accusing him of "self-hatred". ******* Is gay identity so fragile that it cannot bear the thought that some people may not want to be gay? Or that a woman's power should not be ignored, especially in the context of raising children. The difficulties in changing sexual orientation do not spring from its genetic innateness. Sexuality is highly fluid, and reversals are theoretically possible. However, habit is refactory, once the sensory paths have been blazed and deepened by repetition - a phenomenon obvious in the struggle with obesity, smoking, alchoholism, or drug addiction. ******* 20. The obscene contention that constructive and rational opposition to sexual conduct is tantamount to anti-Semitism or other forms of racism is, not only intellectually dishonest, but insultingly disrespectful to Blacks, Jews and other minorities. Discrimination against skin colour, ethnicity or religion is not wholly comparable to the complicated resistance of virtually all societies in history to open homosexuality, which involves thorny questions of morality and psychology. There has never been a gay leader remotely near the stature of Martin Luther king or Gandhi, both of whom drew on the profound spiritual traditions of religion, to which gay political rhetoric has been childishly hostile. It was the influence of the Quakers in 18th Century Britain and the flamboyent, thunderous activism of Evangelicals in 19th Century America that powered the abolitionist movement and led to the end of slavery. ******* 21. No major world religion has ever endorsed homosexuality which can be openly practised only in peaceful, affluent and cosmopolitan periods. Even in classical antiquity, homosexuality was controversial, and despite the exaggerated claims of today's partisans, there was no place or period where it flourished in complete freedom from moral opprobrium. History shows that male homosexuality flourishes with urbanization, soon becomes predictably ritualized and always tends toward decadence. So, my radical brothers and sisters should stop bitching about sincere Christians, Jews and Muslims who are merely exercising their constitutional right to free speech and whose vast philosophical perspective easily triumphs over the provincialism and amorality of the gay world. Indeed, their position is far more credible and honest than the tortuous casuistry of self-interested clerics who take the path of least resistance by creating their own church, tailor-made to affirm their Rainbow philosophy. ******* 22. The most succinct phrase I could use to describe teachers like James Chamberlain of Surrey BC would be "neurotically obsessed". Imagine the perverted thought processes and the emotional angst that must haunt these poor souls to cause them to consider, even for a moment, introducing alternative behaviours and lifestyles to kindergarten and grade one students. This is psychological child abuse. ******* You don't need gay activists to teach young people love and respect for all human beings. Believe me, I've had enough exposure to these clubby leftist lemmings to know that you can't discourse with them for more than five minutes without running into some tiresome barrier of resentment or ideology. To them, sexual orientation is a religion, a personal identity and a career, and anyone who messes with this doctrine will feel the sting of activist vengeance and vituperation. Thank God for the guts and gumption of the Surrey Board of Education who aren't afraid to stand up to the monomaniacal mob of moral morons and child corrupters. ******* The prominent recurring theme in the materials presented by the gay advocates for use in the schools seems to revolve around the acceptance of same-sex families. This approach is clearly less controversial than attempting to discuss specific sexual practices and, of course, one can candy-coat the agenda with cute titles and innocuous story lines. But it's still an attempt to undermine the traditional family and to inure fresh, young minds to the current ethos that same-sex parenting is equivalent to opposite-sex parenting. Once you have effectively broken one of societies taboos, others will fall away easily and rapidly. Children must not be used as guinea pigs for social engineering experiments. Children need a biological mother and father. We know that this is not always possible, even in the context of opposite-sex marriage, but we don't solve the problem or alleviate the inconsistency by adding to it. Self - interested partisans will manufacture statistics to support their specious claims that children of same-sex marriages fare as well as those of opposite-sex marriages. However, the phenomenon of same-sex parenting doesn't have the longevity needed for such conclusive evidence, whereas the experience of single parent families has not always, but often shown detriment to the development of the offspring. ******* 23. So what about those gays and lesbians who really want to raise a family? Some of us have "baby envy"; it's intrinsic to our species. Some of us feel excluded and stigmatized. Too bad. Since when does everybody get everything they want? Laws are written for the good of all society and not for the individual, the special rights advocates or the legal radicals. The true libertarian recognizes that we are first of all social, interdependent beings - free, but also bound. And because human community can only arise from some prevailing unity, society always has a natural and logical primacy over the individual. For the true libertarian, there is a connected stream of virtues, standards and institutions that must be distinguished and protected. And if we ignore the lessons of history and natural law, then everything becomes legal and everything becomes moral, and civilization descends into chaos. ******* 24. HOPE recommends that Dr Jeffrey Satinover's lucid and scholarly book, Homosexuality and the Politics of Truth, be compulsory reading at the secondary school level. Moreover, if there was any way to compel the BCCT to, not only read this text, but to submit to a written examination of its content, I would be all for it. HOPE fully supports the CRI's human rights complaint against the BCCT and the remedies proposed therein. Somehow and forthwith, the "choice, diversity and tolerance" crowd needs to be made aware that their actions and decisions do irreversible harm to the civilized majority of gays and lesbians. Although they fancy themselves as enlightened, progressive and revolutionary, their nihilistic and subversive tactics do little more than foment a universal antagonism which could lead to a colossal reversal of fortunes. ******* Camille Paglia sums up this false dualism and impending regression with the following: "Conservative Christianity is not the cause of gay problems. On the contrary, the present religious extremism about homosexuality is the direct result of the major media's 20-year-long liberal stranglehold on gay issues, which have been simplistically framed as a conflict between enlightened, humane tolerance and reactionary, redneck repression. As a militant free-speech advocate, I have warned again and again that when "offensive" speech is silenced by well-meaning, liberal authorities, any argument is forced underground and eventually emerges in far more fanatical and uncontrollable form. I appeal to the gay activist leadership to focus on practical matters of legality and to back off from its doomed high-wire experiments with theology and psychoanalysis. Let religious conservatives say whatever they want and run whatever ads they want. Get real: Entertainment, media and the arts are non-stop advertisements for homosexuality these days. The more than 800-strong gathering gave Kempling a standing ovation and organizers called him a "hero" as they presented Kempling with the organization's achievement award for the stand he has taken against what CASJAFVA calls the "homosexual agenda" in the public school system. ******* Kempling faces a fine and possible suspension of his teaching license for comments he wrote questioning "inaccurate" homosexual resources approved for use in BC schools -- a move labeled as "conduct unbecoming a teacher" by the BC College of Teachers (BCCT). ******* Kempling told the self-described "80 percent Chinese" CASJAFVA audience that he was raised with strong family values by Christian missionary arents. "I will not lay those values down even though I work in a public school," he said. "The pro-homosexual agenda is not healthy for children, and I will not teach lies to children." ******* Referring to the recent BC case on child pornography, Kempling said, "Robin Sharpe has more rights than I do for freedom of speech. I want to use the Charter of Rights to speak out in defense of children." He thanked CASJAFVA for the organization's support, adding he could not take the stand he has taken alone. ******* "What the [BCCT is] proposing is not religious freedom, it is a prison of religion," Kempling told BCCN. "I can't quit now, this case is too important." ******* Kempling drank only water at the lavish dinner, indicating that he was fasting because of the importance of the day, which would have preceded his BCCT sentencing hearing. The hearing was to have occurred October 21, but was recently postponed for a second time until mid-November. ******* K-John Cheung, convenor of the 1000-member strong CASJAFVA, took the postponement as a positive sign. Twice postponing the sentencing hearing indicates the BCCT is "making some serious considerations and thinking hard about the case," Cheung said. ******* He added that the organization conducted a letter-writing campaign to the BCCT protesting their decision against Kempling and took out a full-page ad drawing attention to the case in the Sing Tao Daily Chinese language paper, in addition to publishing Kempling's story in their bilingual bimonthly publication which reaches across the nation. In light of this, he said he believes the BCCT is moving slowly to avoid becoming a "laughingstock across Canada." ******* Kempling also spoke at Coquitlam Presbyterian Church and Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Surrey on Saturday, Oct. 19 in events sponsored by BC Parents and Teachers for Life (BCPTL). More than $3,000 was donated at the meetings to defray the teacher's legal costs resulting from the BCCT action. ******* When the story first broke in June of this year, Kempling said he received over 100 e-mails and letters of support in the first week. He has since continued to receive daily letters of support and financial donations from across Canada and the United States and from as far away as Bombay, India. *********************************************************************************************************************** ******* item 6 MERLE TERLESKY'S 02-11-30 LETTER TO NEWSPAPERS ******* Just to let you know I am having a day of support for Chris in Kamloops hopefuly next Friday. Campbell called Mr. Kempling a "Daniel" standing up against the cowardly mob of bullies intimidating the community into accepting their tyranny, who are imposing their barbaric agenda on our "Babylonian society". ******* Mr. Kempling's address (see attached) was both an account of the outrageous violations of his citizenship rights and the slanderous attacks upon his responsible teaching professionalism, by teachers' union bosses. It was also a thorough expose of the extent to which the militant homosexual agenda is being imposed in the public schools. ******* An offering of more than two thousand dollars was given in support of Mr. Kempling's defense fund. One is the fact that we very gradually converted the country into the most authoritarian state in the western world. The other is that so few Canadians objected to this when it was happening. One instance that may intrigue them, for example, is the appalling case of Chris Kempling - appalling, anyway, to Kempling. Nobody else seems much interested in it. ******* Kempling is (or was) a school teacher and counsellor in Quesnel, B.C. He was suspended for one month by the B.C. College of Teachers for writing letters to a newspaper criticizing the B.C. sex-ed courses. The courses failed, he said, to show that homosexual relationships are demonstrably unstable, that homosexual activity poses a health risk, and that many religions consider homosexual conduct immoral. Kempling made no such comments in class. ******* There were no parental or student complaints about his writing the letters to the editor, nor were there complaints from other teachers. In other words, his activity in this regard was entirely off-campus. He was addressing the public on a public issue, and expressing an opinion. The College of Teachers ruled that all this was irrelevant because "Mr. Kempling used his status as a teacher to give credibility to his views." ******* In short, when the teachers college takes a position on a moral question, all members of the profession are thereupon bound to either echo the view or shut up. Any violation of this rule will bring suspension. ******* In vain, Kempling looked around to see who would help him. His union, the British Columbia Teachers Federation, beyond providing some initial legal help, turned him down flat. ******* "His views are antithetical to our position about the inclusion of gays, lesbians, transgendered and two-spirited people in our society," says the president. ******* Neither would the B.C. Civil Liberties Association take up his cause. He should be fired as a school counsellor, says president John Dixon. That the college could find no specific impact on his students didn't matter. "If there are gay students in that school - and you can bet your bottom dollar there are - they're going to keep their heads down and they certainly aren't going to resort to Mr. Kempling for advice." ******* Kempling is a Christian, said Dixon, and as a counsellor he favours his religious conscience over his duties. How Dixon was in a position to know what Kempling might do in pursuing his duties, Dixon did not explain. Presumably, he believes no person with religious beliefs should be employed as a school counsellor because this danger would always exist. Atheists only need apply. ******* Kempling's church came to his help and contributed $30,000 to his defence fund. A few voices in the media spoke up. The Victoria Times-Colonist found it strange that the College of Teachers could become so zealous in protecting homosexuality. "Yet it can't bring itself to get rid of demonstrably rotten teachers, and can only issue reprimands to some who have had improper relationships with students, or, in one recent case, flashed them." ******* In The Vancouver Province, columnist Susan Martinuk called the college "a supposedly enlightened bunch" who sought to refuse to certify teachers from Trinity Western College because they might be Christians and therefore "homophobic." ******* Kempling says the ruling will ruin his career, since the college's decision will be circulated to every school division on the continent. ******* Meanwhile, a Commons committee is considering a bill that would make the reading of biblical injunctions against homosexuality in a church a "hate crime" under the Criminal Code. Another court fines a parent for spanking his teenaged son with a belt, while yet another court endorses the action of a social worker in seizing a whole family of kids because their parents were known to occasionally spank them. Throw in other endeavours by courts and governments and you see emerging the western world's No. 1 totalitarian state, all developed in the name of human rights. Yes, it will be very hard for future historians to understand. ********************************************************************************************************************** ******* item 9 BC COLLEGE OF TEACHERS' DOUBLE STANDARD IN DISCIPLINING TEACHERS ******* From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] ******* Subject: TODAY'S FAMILY NEWS for May 28-29 ******* B.C. TEACHER ACCUSED OF SEXUAL MISCONDUCT LOSES LICENCE ******* Parents in Courtenay, British Columbia, say it was only because of their persistence that the BC College of Teachers (BCCT) finally decided to rescind the teaching certificate of a teacher accused of sexual misconduct involving a student, Canwest News Service reported Monday. "It took four and one half years and it only came about because of parents who wouldn't keep quiet," said concerned parent Sue Halstead. ******* Secondary school teacher Billie-Jo Johnson's licence was lifted effective April 3 for allegedly having become personally involved with one of her male students. According to eyewitnesses, they were seen together on numerous occasions. The student, now 20, has sued Johnson, claiming that their relationship amounted to sexual assault. But unlike Sechelt teacher Heather Ingram, who was charged and convicted earlier this year of having had an affair with an underage student, police to date have not criminal charges against Johnson due to a lack of evidence. She and the student involved have both denied that their relationship was sexual. ******* Comox Valley school board chairman Elizabeth Shannon also expressed concern about how long it took for the case to be resolved, noting that after Johnson was fired on grounds of unprofessional misconduct, she apparently found work at a private school in Vancouver. "It's a very long time and, certainly, it doesn't look at protecting children," Shannon told Canwest. ******* Johnson's case stands in contrast to that of Quesnel teacher-counsellor Chris Kempling. In April, the BCCT handed him a one-month suspension for expressing outside the classroom his biblically-based concerns about school curricula that cast homosexuality in a positive light. Unlike Johnson, no parent or student complaints had ever been lodged against Kempling. ******* Following his sentencing, several critics accused the college of being more interested in going after a teacher who had never allowed his personal opinions to influence his professional conduct than in getting rid of those found to have had improper relationships with students. "In short," said Edmonton Sun columnist Ted Byfield, "when the teachers' college takes a position on a moral question, all members of the profession are thereupon bound to either echo the view or shut up. Any violation of this rule will bring suspension." "Failure to adhere to its policy of defending homosexuality," the Victoria Times-Colonist stated in an editorial, "is obviously of more concern to the BCCT than teachers' inability to teach or sexual misconduct." ********************************************************************************************************************* ******* item 10 FREE SPEECH FALLS PREY TO 'HUMAN RIGHTS' ******* by Ian Hunter - National Post ******* Monday, August 18, 2003 ******* Time was when freedom of speech was considered the cornerstone of democracy. No more -- at least not in Canada. Of course, Canadians are not very keen on democracy, either, being content to be ruled in perpetuity by a combination of courts and the Liberal party. ******* Freedom of speech is protected by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and by Section 2 of our Charter of Rights. Everyone likes rights on paper; for that matter, we like free speech, too, as long as the speech in question is soothing, anodyne and we happen to agree with it. We don't much like freedom for speech that offends us, or with which we disagree. ******* Take the case of British Columbia high school teacher Chris Kempling. Mr. Kempling is an exemplary teacher, as principals and students, past and present, have attested. But Mr. Kempling is a Christian and, as such, he believes homosexuality is "not something to be applauded," to use his own words. A majority of Canadians may agree with Kempling on this, but the human rights industry and the pseudo-intellectuals do not agree with Mr. Kempling, and therefore we must all keep silent. ******* The British Columbia College of Teachers suspended Mr. Kempling for "conduct unbecoming a teacher." This decision just might be understandable if Mr. Kempling had expressed his views in school. But he didn't. He expressed them in a letter to the editor of his local newspaper. So, off with his head! -- well, not yet his head, so far just his teaching licence. ******* Then there was Hugh Owens, a Saskatchewan prison guard, fined for citing (not quoting, just citing) Bible verses that condemn homosexuality. ******* Then there was Toronto printer Scott Brockie, hauled before our version of the Inquisition -- a human rights tribunal -- and fined for turning down printing business from homosexual activists. ******* And the case of the Christian couple in Prince Edward Island who shut down their bed and breakfast rather than be forced to condone homosexual acts under their own roof. ******* But perhaps I had better stop there; I am no longer sure that mentioning the ham-fisted totalitarianism of Canadian human rights commissions is safe. Perhaps overnight it has become "offensive" (in Canada, synonymous with illegal) to point out what human rights commissions are up to. When you cease to be governed by the rule of law and are governed instead by the caprice of judges, you can't be too careful. ******* This trend to subordinate free speech to offended feelings is not confined to Canada, although this is one area (often, I think, the only area) where Canadians may justifiably claim to be world-beaters. ******* When the Vatican issued its categorical statement on homosexual unions last month, it was denounced by all the sort of people the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation would consider putting on a panel. ******* In The Globe and Mail, for example, columnist Heather Mallick warned the Pope henceforth to stay out of Canada -- on pain of, well, something akin to ex-communication from the sistership of all right-thinking (which is to say, left-thinking) cognoscenti. She also wrote: "Churchy people have no say in government, and that's all she wrote." I confess to finding that sentence frightening precisely because it is true. ******* To Mallick I say, fair enough, this is why free speech exists: to allow people like you to sound off, restrained only by the law of defamation, without the fear that by speaking your mind you are likely to have your livelihood removed or wake to hear the midnight knock upon your door. But how come Heather Mallick enjoys that right but not Chris Kempling? Why is any form of rhetoric allowable so long as it is directed against the Roman Catholic Church, but fawning subservience is the only thing permissible when the subject is gay rights? ******* As soon as the Vatican's statement was released, the Irish Council for Civil Liberties warned Catholic bishops there that any distribution of it, even in churches, could lead to prosecution and jail under Ireland's "hate crime" laws. Likewise in Canada, any biblical or religious objection proffered against homosexual "marriage" is routinely descried either as "homophobia" or "hate." ******* This is an effective political technique because it scares many people into silence. But it is fatal to free speech and, ultimately, it is fatal to democracy. ******* We need to remember that free speech does not mean freedom for the speech we agree with. Such speech needs no legal protection. If free speech means anything, it means protecting the speech we find disturbing, abhorrent, offensive. ******* Put simply: In Canada it is the Chris Kemplings whom the law needs to protect, not the Heather Mallicks. ******* Ian Hunter is Professor Emeritus in the Faculty of Law at the University of Western Ontario. ******* Copyright 2003 National Post ********************************************************************************************************************* ******* item 11 MY IMPASSIONED ESSAY IN DEFENCE OF CHRIS KEMPLING ******* by Robert A. Jason ******* I watched a CBC documentary the other day on Christopher Kempling, the Christian high school teacher in British Columbia persecuted for his faith. Although I never watch the CBC for its odious, relentless anti-Christian anti-family bigotry, I had to watch this one because of Kempling. What a blessed relief! CBC was actually fair to a Christian. Imagine that! ******* In fact, I was ecstatic watching the documentary. I was walking on air. In seventh heaven. Nirvana. Valhalla. I was so proud of Chris Kempling. He is a fine representative of our wonderful Christian faith. He came across as a gentle, decent, civil, articulate, informed, reasonable, compassionate, soft-spoken, immensely appealing soul; while his tormentors came across as crass, bigoted, hateful, intolerant, uncouth, smug, ill-informed, sarcastic, hugely unappealing creatures spouting nonsensical and tired rhetoric. ******* And what was the heinous crime, pray tell, committed by Kempling? You see, he exercised his Canadian rights of freedom of speech guaranteed under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. He did so by writing letters to the local paper opposing the indoctrination in homosexuality of innocent, vulnerable, impressionable children in public schools against the wishes of their parents. His compassion towards these children and his need to protect them was so enormous that he felt compelled to tell the truth (in well-researched, well-thought out letters) about the harm caused by homosexuality. And he did it in his own spare time as a free citizen of a free nation, and did not express his views within the school walls. ******* Yet, that was not good enough for his persecutors. They are determined to punish him harshly for his pains, even getting him fired. And his accusers are the same people who loudly trumpet "tolerance" as the highest virtue - indeed, "tolerance" has been elevated to the status of a religion. But no tolerance for a Christian? No tolerance for the Christian worldview? No tolerance for a Christian telling the truth to his fellow countrymen in the public square? Are Christians now to be sacrificed to the gods of secular-humanism, post-modernism, moral-relativism...? Are we witnessing in our beloved Canada the imposition of an updated version of the Orwellian "Thought Police", the medieval Inquisition, the "Star Chamber", the Tsarist Police of Ivan the Terrible? I weep for my children and grandchildren - what an ignominious future they are condemned to face! Where are you, George Grant, when we need you? We desperately need a newer "Lament for a Nation!" ******* One of Kempling's opponets in the documentary was a Lesbian, attired in her full regalia of short hair and trousers. She ranted on and on about how Kempling's letters made her feel bad. ******* "I feel, therefore I am." Feelings, not Truth determine everything in the 'gay' ethos. No right or wrong, mind you, just feelings. If their feelings are hurt, they feel perfectly justified in demanding the ruination of the career of a good teacher and a good man with an impeccable record. ******* And what is his record? His credentials? Here is a sample: ******* A teacher and counsellor for 13 years, with two Masters degrees and an almost complete Ph.D in psychology; 14 letters of commendation on his file, and nary a single letter of complaint. A community volunteer as a Big Brother. Volunteer referee for volleyball. President of the Child & Youth Support Society for 14 years. Employee and Family Assistance Counsellor in private practice and a Registered Clinical Counsellor. Appointed by the Minister of Health to be Chairman of the District Health Council. Past member of the Quesnel Christian Ministerial Association; and an elder, Sunday School Teacher and lay preacher of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. ******* You would have thought any school worth its salt would be honoured to have a teacher with such luminous credentials! Alas, he suffers from one cardinal sin in the eyes of the secular-humanist fundamentalists running the public school system - he is a devout Christian who will not remain silent in face of an egregious, unrelenting assault on his faith. ******* I regard Chris Kempling as my brother - brother in Christ, that is. Not only do we both love Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, we both are teachers with M.A degrees and we both write letters to the editor defending traditional family values under withering attack in a free and democratic society. ******* I have contacted Chris and given him my full support. Chris informs me he has family roots in Niagara. His father, Edwin Kempling, was born and raised in St. Catharines. His uncle, Russell Kempling, was a champion rower from St. Catharines. He died as a fighter pilot in the Second World War in defence of the very freedoms his nephew is fighting for under the Charter. ******* Happily, Chris has received extraordinary support from the faith community of Christians, Jews, Muslims, Sikhs and many other believers in traditional family values. It was faxed to all MPs so here it is: ******* Ms. Barbara Gobbi, 11980 Highway 97 S, Prince George, BC V2N 6B5 ******* October 17, 2002 ******* The Hon. Andy Scott, Chair, Justice Committee ******* Dear Mr. Scott: ******* The possible reintroduction of Bill C-415 , a bill which would amend sections 318 and 319 of the Criminal Code by adding "sexual orientation" as a basis for protection against hate crimes is very worrisome. ******* A very large segment of the Canadian constituency continues to believe that homosexual behaviours are seriously disordered. As late as in 1991, in no less an esteemed institution as the University of British Columbia, my fourth year Abnormal Psychology class was taught that the reason homosexuality was removed from the Diagnostic System of the American Psychriatric Association (DSM II) as a "sexual deviation" was because of the pressure put on the Nomenclature Committee of the American Psychiatric Association "particularly from gay activist groups." ( from our text book, Abnormal Psychology(Fourth edition), 1986, Davison Neale. Chapter 12, Psychosexual Disorders: Gender Identity Disorders and the Paraphilias, p.309) ******* As the text stated: "The members of the psychiatric association voted on the issue, in itself a comment on the conduct of science in the twentieth century. The change was approved, but not without vehement protests from a number of renowned psychiatrists. . . ." ******* At that point the psycho-social disorder of "ego-dystonic homosexuality" took the place of the previous category: suddenly, by the stroke of a pen, those who felt that their attraction to the same sex was a problem were to be diagnosed as having a problem. ******* What utter nonsense! ******* To give the true history on this change in the DSM II would probably cost a university professor his/her position today. So much for truth being one of the highest values in western democracies. ******* So now we are about to embark on making negative comments on the homosexual lifestyle a "hate" crime. As a teacher attending a human rights session on the question of non-acceptance of the homosexual life-style, we were told that if a student came to school and made a negative comment, then they were to be reprimanded. If the student should be reported to make a second non-accepting comment, the parents were to be contacted to be advised that their offspring was to be told not to do such a thing again. The participants in that work-shop were definitely given the impression that there could be dire consequences to the student/student's family for a further indiscretion. We are not talking here of name-calling or bullying behaviours - just the sharing of an opinion, an opinion that was taught as a psychological truth up to very recent times. ******* As a teacher in the Catholic system in British Columbia, I was told by the BC College of Teachers (BCCT) registrar, Doug Smart, that I could only share my unaccepting views about the homosexual lifestyle in "private" venues, no soap-boxing, no letters to the editor and to even be careful of conversations on the topic as I walked down public side-walks. When I ventured the opinion that I would not share family-life materials that presented same-sex families as just one more family type to my first grade students (since I would consider it to be a form of intellectual violence since a child's common sense would be assaulted), he assured me that, were such behaviour to be reported to the BCCT, I would likely be up on an ethics charge. Currently, in BC, we have such a charge against a highly respected teacher just an hour and one-half south of Prince George. ******* So, in our secular humanist society there is no place in the professions for Bible-based Christians, and the orthodox of other religious persuasions that take the same "common sense/natural law" view as the current Catechism of the Catholic Church which states at 2357:"Homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered. They are contrary to natural law." ******* When do we start to force the blacking out of the sections of the Bible that use some pretty strong terms regarding such behaviours. Surely those activists that have brought us thus far, will, for starters, not allow a non-edited Bible on the shelves of "public" book stores. ******* I am particularly upset as a Christian parent who was able to freely practice my profession as an educator, that none of my eight children, all who have degrees at the post-secondary level, will not have this same professional freedom. Bright students of a non-secular humanist mind-set are about to become "hewers of wood and drawers of water." ******* Doesn't this remind you of other totalitarian regimes of fairly recent vintage? ******* Freedom of speech has always been an integral part of our country's cultural identity. For legislators to interfere with the expression of a diversity of opinion in the area of sexual orientation is unconscionable and very unwise. ******* Many Canadians are also very aware that "sexual orientation" was "written in" to the Charter of Rights by activist judges, not by legislators that debated it's inclusion on the floors of parliament. Those same Canadians are probably also aware that a small group of 15 MP's were present when gay-activist Svend Robinson introduced this bill in the House of Commons in May of this year. This is democracy? This will garner respect for the "rule of law" our country's stability is based on? ******* Sincerely yours, Barbara Gobbi, 250-963-9189 [email protected] ******* c.c.
