All rights reserved. ******* 2004 The ECP Centre. All rights reserved. ******* Vol. 1, No. 2 ? July 2004 ******* Successful Scott Brockie Fundraiser ******* Equipping Christians for the Public-Square Centre's first ever fundraiser proved to be an incredible event. On Saturday, June 26, just over 240 people gathered to honour two Canadian heroes - Senator Anne Cools and Printer Scott Brockie. ******* The ECP Centre is a Christian advocacy centre that educates and motivates Christians to get involved in the public square. "Tonight isn't just about raising money," said executive director, Reverend Tristan Emmanuel, "it's about raising awareness across denominational lines about the great need of our day ? Christian involvement in the political sphere." ******* The ECP Centre started about a year ago in response to Bill C-250, and since that time the Centre has held over 40 town hall meetings across Canada to call Christians to action. "If we don't get involved in a serious way as Christians, then we shouldn't be surprised if secularism fills the void our absence creates," said Emmanuel. ******* But the ECP Centre is a word and deed Christian advocacy ministry as well. "As important as education and motivation are, the Centre's vision includes tangible results. We want to say: 'We're here to help those brothers and sisters who find themselves the object of judicial tyranny.'" Rev. Emmanuel presented Mr. Brockie with a cheque ($24,060) to help defray the cost of defending his Christian conscience. ******* Scott Brockie, the honoured guest and speaker, is the Toronto based printer who became the target of homosexual activists back in April 1996. Representatives of the Lesbian Gay Archives of Canada approached Mr. Brockie to print material that would advance the homosexual agenda. Brockie, a committed Christian, did not take their business for conscience sake, an act for which he was dragged before the Ontario human rights tribunal. Now, after eight years of court hearings, Mr. Brockie has learned the tangible meaning of "count the cost" - his bill has ballooned to $170,000. ******* Senator Anne Cools, a Liberal senator who now has joined the Conservative Party of Canada spoke on the tyranny of the judiciary. "A system that would leave a man in such financial straits is reckless," said Senator Cools. She later added, "politically appointed bodies that have prosecutorial powers and are not subject to the elected body of representatives is setting Canada on dangerous footing." ******* Mr. Brockie also addressed the audience and spoke about the need for Christians to get into the world and exercise their faith. "Scripture doesn't tell the world to get into the church; it tells the church to get into the world." All three speakers agreed that now more then ever before, Christians need to make their presence known. ******* A DVD of the evening's fundraiser highlighting speeches from Senator Anne Cools, Mr. Scott Brockie and ECP Centre's executive director, Rev. Tristan Emmanuel, will be available early this fall. Secure your copy by sending a cheque for $27.00 (includes taxes and shipping and handling) to: ECP Centre P.O.
