Mosher ******* During recent visits to P'yongyang, the capitol of North Korea, PRI associates inquired into the inhumane population policies of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-il. They found that North Korea considers pregnancy to be a crime under some circumstances, and routinely aborts women prisoners. Pregnant women are seen as unsightly, and women who become pregnant are banished from the capital city. Triplets are regarded as inauspicious, and are separated at birth from their parents and sent to a special orphanage which specializes in neglect. ******* Kim Jong-il rules by terror. According to the U.S. Department of State, "Citizens do not have the right peacefully to change their government. There continued to be reports of extrajudicial killings and disappearances. Citizens are detained arbitrarily, and many are held as political prisoners; prison conditions are harsh." "There are no restrictions on the ability of the Government to detain and imprison persons at will." 1) ******* Millions of prisoners languish in concentration camps. Kim Jong-il's population program extends into these camps, where women are brutally and forcibly aborted and newborns are routinely murdered. ******* The following atrocities in detention camps in North Korea were conveyed from eye-witness testimonies: "While I was there, it was commonly known that pregnant women were taken to a hospital outside the camp for forced abortion and that babies born alive were killed. One day when we came back from our work outside the camp, prisoners told us that a police doctor had inspected the female prisoners in the morning and had found out that two of them were pregnant". Both were ordered to run around the camp yard with a heavily loaded stretcher. The first women had [a] miscarriage and collapsed. Then, two prisoners were ordered to kick the swollen belly of Kim Son-hi. She miscarried about one or two hours later." ******* "There was a 19-year-old pregnant woman prisoner in the camp" [who] gave birth to a baby with the help of an elderly woman prisoner". The guard immediately ordered us to kill the just-born infant. The eldest woman had to cover the infant with a blanket as instructed and to kill him." ******* "A woman was screaming as she went into labor". They threatened to take her out for running if she did not stop screaming". When the baby was delivered after suffering a terrible ordeal, it was left on the floor to die. The mother wept to get the baby in her arms. Her eyes were swollen with grief but the guards hurled all sorts of invectives at her. ******* "A woman lost her mind in this dire process. It was just too much to witness so many baby killings. During the month that I spent in detention here, two adults, one four-year-old child and seven newborn babies were killed." ******* The chief international supporter of North Korea's population control program is the United Nations Population Fund, which since 1985 has provided tens of millions of dollars in demographic and technical support. UNFPA runs its North Korea country program from its office in Beijing. 3 ******* Although North Korea has signed onto the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, and other U.N. programs, the UNFPA has refused to condemn the government of North Korea. Instead, as UNFPA admits, it has "engaged in close consultation with the Government" of Kim Jong-il. 4 ******* Since UNFPA has no office in North Korea, and is far away from the atrocities it supports, it will likely claim it does not know about them. But ignorance is no defense. The UNFPA is supporting and axis of evil in Asia, as regimes from North Korea and China in the north, to Vietnam in the south, depend on its largesse to operate inhumane population control programs. ******* Despite UNFPA's checkered record, some in Congress continue efforts to refund this renegade group. Pro-abortion lawmakers want to gut the Kemp-Kasten amendment. Only if UNFPA bureaucrats were caught actually performing forced abortions would they lose U.S. funds. ******* But no one believes that these bureaucrats dirty their own hands. At Harvard, pro-life students can get a small rebate from the university if they don't want their student fees used to pay for abortions. Meanwhile, at Columbia University, a nurse practitioner told the student newspaper that most Columbia students who become pregnant choose abortion. It's that kind of mindset that Feminists for Life is trying to change. Foster notes that schools regularly address �other challenges students face, like depression and sexually transmitted diseases, but bury the fact that there are pregnant and parenting students who need support." The group's college outreach program was inspired by a former board member who shared her story of pregnancy during grad school. "Without housing, day care or maternity coverage, it didn't seem like I had much of a free choice," the woman told Foster and the Feminists for Life board. As a result, the woman miscarried under the stress. "That story haunted me. Tara Chambers was shot in her Concord home in June of 2002. Her daughter, T'Kaiya, was born before she died, but died a month after her mother did. Chambers' ex-boyfriend, Tyrone Raynard Gladden and others have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, after numerous witnesses told police that Gladden had inquired about hiring someone to kill Chambers, and that he had threatened her and insisted that she have an abortion. Allegedly he forced Chambers to have three abortions prior to her pregnancy with T'Kaiya. Generally set aside as a day of prayer, it culminates with a declaration of the covenant community's unflinching commitment to the innocents who are unable to protect themselves. ******* Virtually every culture in antiquity was stained with the blood of innocent children. Unwanted infants in ancient Rome were abandoned outside the city walls to die from exposure to the elements or from the attacks of wild foraging beasts. Greeks often gave their pregnant women harsh doses of herbal or medicinal abortifacients. Persians developed highly sophisticated surgical curette procedures. Chinese women tied heavy ropes around their waists so excruciatingly tight that they either aborted or passed into unconsciousness. Ancient Hindus and Arabs concocted chemical pessiaries -- abortifacients that were pushed or pumped directly into the womb through the birth canal. Primitive Canaanites threw their children onto great flaming fires as a sacrifice to their god Molech. Polynesians subjected their pregnant women to onerous tortures -- their abdomens beaten with large stones or hot coals heaped upon their bodies. Egyptians disposed of their unwanted children by disemboweling and dismembering them shortly after birth -- their collagen was then harvested for the manufacture of cosmetic cream. The founding of Rome was, for instance, presumed to be the happy result of the abandonment of Romulus and Remus. Likewise, Oedipus, Jupiter, Poseidon, and Hephaistos were all victims of failed infanticides. ******* Because they had been mired by the minions of sin and death, it was as instinctive as the autumn harvest for them to summarily sabotage their own heritage. I knew it was performed on a wider scale than publicly realized, but even I didn't understand how pervasively. ******* When I stumbled on induced-labor abortion at the hospital where I worked, and objected, my two bosses (both Catholic) told me they didn't develop the procedure, it had been around awhile. It turned out my hospital had committed induced-labor birth abortion for 20 years - incredibly, with no written policy. ******* I reflected on the thousands of nurses, doctors, medical students, residents, nursing assistants, cleaning personnel, pharmacists, department secretaries and chaplains who knew before me, but never said a word. ******* I became disgusted with staff around me who professed to be pro-life, but thought it was enough not to participate. Afraid to speak out and embarrassed when the hospital was publicly exposed, they defensively circled the wagons together with pro-aborts. A few even turned on me and said I should just shut up and leave. ******* It was as Oswald Chambers noted, "People who are totally consumed with idealistic principles rarely do anything." He was right. These supposed pro-lifers thought it was enough not to do something. But it's not. ******* Today, I am always amazed by pro-life medical professionals who approach me after one of my speeches to cluck their tongues at the miserable state of affairs, yet do not even know if their own hospital aborts, or worse, know and think that since they don't participate or work in "that" department, it's acceptable. But it's not. ******* Pro-life medical professionals should consider it a prerequisite to check an institution's abortion policy before accepting employment, something I naively didn't do because my hospital was supposedly Christian. ******* If a hospital is involved in abortion, a pro-lifer should walk away – and say why. Working at a pro-abortion institution means a segment of one's salary comes from the blood of abortion. And just physically being there - no matter where - frees up someone else to participate in the act. ******* The same holds true when applying to work for doctors, even those not involved in women's health. They must be asked their position on abortion and euthanasia. It is foolish to think a pro-death heart specialist or pediatrician, for instance, will give the same conscientious care as a pro-lifer. The answer to the life question reveals whether someone's morality and psyche are intact, or, as the Bible says, whether his or her "whole head is infected" (Isaiah 1:5). ******* If pro-life medical professionals would take this proactive step, we could shut down much of abortion without there ever having to be a change of law. ******* This is because there is a growing critical shortage of doctors and nurses. The Center for Nursing Advocacy reported, "The U.S. continues to face an aging nursing workforce and an explosion in the need for skilled nursing, as the baby boom generation starts to retire, and health care and care technology grow increasingly complex." USA Today reported, "A shortage of physicians ... will worsen as 79 million baby boomers reach retirement age and demand more medical care unless the nation starts producing more doctors." ******* Note the irony that abortion has contributed to the shortage of health care workers. ******* If pro-life medical professionals would work solely for pro-life hospitals and doctors, we would force pro-abortion institutions to change their policies or go under. We would also strengthen pro-life medical institutions. ******* And if you're reading this, and you work or have worked at a hospital committing induced-labor abortion, you should know the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services came out with a very strong statement on April 22 saying it would "aggressively enforce" the Born Alive Infants Protection Act, which would effectively stop the practice of induced-labor abortion. You must contact HHS and tell the people there what you know. Period. ******* Two thousand years ago, a segment of the population wanted legal permission to murder an innocent man.
