You may buy Pepsi, but you don't really believe drinking it makes you cool because Britney Spears pitches it. ******* But you may not recognize an ad campaign so easily when it's not relegated to paid 30-second spots. Or when the product being sold isn't a soft drink, but an idea, or an attitude, or a worldview. ******* Which brings us to a fascinating article in the Regent University Law Review. In an issue analyzing various aspects of gay activism, one piece is especially noteworthy: �Selling Homosexuality to America� by Paul Rondeau, a longtime sales and marketing consultant for corporate America. Rondeau shows how homosexual activists have pursued a specific marketing campaign aimed at moving America in their direction � a strategy that's worked precisely because it was both clever and covert. ******* Rondeau's evidence doesn't come just from right-wingers. He quotes people like Tammy Bruce, a lesbian and ex-president of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Organization for Women who these days voices concern that gay activists are squelching other citizens' freedoms. Speaking of the marketing strategy, Bruce notes that "What is pitched is different � a product brand versus an issue � but the method is the same. In each case, the critical thing is not to let the public know how it is done." ******* But Rondeau's most compelling evidence comes straight from the people who designed the gay PR campaign: Harvard-trained social scientists Marshall Kirk and Hunter Madsen, who in the late �80s issued a call for gay activists to adopt "carefully calculated public relations propaganda." ******* Their strategy came dressed up in marketing jargon: �Desensitize, jam and convert.� As it turns out, though, you could use one word to summarize all those others: manipulation. ******* Desensitization, write Kirk and Madsen, means subjecting the public to a �continuous flood of gay-related advertising, presented in the least offensive fashion possible. If straights can�t shut off the shower, they may at least eventually get used to being wet.� ******* Again, this doesn�t mean conventional advertising. �The main thing is to talk about gayness until the issue becomes thoroughly tiresome,� they say. �If you can get [straights] to think homosexuality is just another thing � meriting no more than a shrug of the shoulders � then your battle for legal and social rights is virtually won.� Turn on the TV practically any night, watch the endless stream of gay characters and references, and you�ll get the idea. ******* Jamming means, simply, smearing anyone who disagrees with their agenda. �Jam homohatred [i.e., opposition to homosexuality] by linking it to Nazi horror,� urge Kirk and Madsen; associate all detractors with images like �Klansmen demanding that gays be slaughtered,� �hysterical backwoods preachers,� �menacing punks,� and a �tour of Nazi concentration camps where homosexuals were tortured and gassed.� ******* Moreover, they add, gays can undermine the moral authority of homohating churches over less fervent adherents by portraying [them] as antiquated backwaters, badly out of step . . . with the latest findings of psychology. Against the atavistic tug of Old Time Religion one must set the mightier pull of Science and Public Opinion. . . . Such an �unholy� alliance has already worked well in America against the churches, on such topics as divorce and abortion. . . . [T]hat alliance can work for gays.� Conversion means �conversion of the average American�s emotions, mind, and will, through a planned psychological attack, in the form of propaganda fed to the nation via the media.� Here, too, the portrayal of homosexuality on TV fits the mold perfectly. The viewer who�s not on board with homosexuality (whom they call �the bigot") is to be �repeatedly exposed to literal picture/label pairs . . . of gays . . . carefully selected to look either like the bigot and his friends, or like any of his other stereotypes of all the right guys.� ******* Kirk and Madsen don�t want to stop there, though. They want to �paint gay men and lesbians as superior � veritable pillars of society.� To this end, �famous historical figures are considered especially useful to us;� not only do they bring prestige, they�re also �invariably dead as a doornail, hence in no position to deny the truth and sue for libel.� (Good thing, too, considering the flimsy evidence that often gets trotted out in these cases. Gays and their allies have even claimed biblical figures like Abraham and David for their camp.1) ******* Of course, Kirk and Madsen are well aware that there are also plenty of things not to portray. They stress the need to keep quiet about the details of homosexual practices, at least until the public is thoroughly Desensitized. �First you get your foot in the door, by being as similar as possible; then, and only then � when your one little difference [sexual orientation] is finally accepted � can you start dragging in your other peculiarities, one by one.� ******* What �peculiarities?� Well, to take one that�s been in the news lately, sex between adults and minors, as advocated by groups like the North American Man-Boy Love Association. �We�re not judging you, but others do, and very harshly; please keep a low profile,� Kirk and Madsen tell such groups. �You offend the public more than other gays.�2 ******* What else? As Rondeau says, ******* Pederasts, gender-benders, sado-masochists, and other minorities within the homosexual community with more extreme �peculiarities� would keep a low profile. . . . Also, common practices such as anal-oral sex, anal sex, fisting and anonymous sex � that is to say what homosexuals actually do and with how many they do it � must never be a topic. ******* Beyond reporting on the details of the PR campaign, Rondeau�s great service is to show readers that it even exists. �It is not common practice to think of social movements in terms of marketing,� he notes. �Perhaps this is because using terms like �selling� or �marketing� seems to denigrate noble activities� usually portrayed by their supporters �in terms of grass roots and the will of the people.� In reality, however, �homosexual activists envision that a decision is ultimately made without society ever realizing that it has been purposely conditioned to arrive at a conclusion it thinks is its own.� ******* That last point is an important one. We all like to think we make up our own minds � after full consideration of all the issues, with equal time for both sides, etc. We also like to think that public opinion arises spontaneously, more or less organically from ordinary people reacting to their own life experience. After all, it�s not very flattering to think of yourself and the people you know as, well, sheep. (Someone has defined public opinion as �what everyone thinks everyone else thinks.�) ******* In short, one reason we can be manipulated is that we don�t want to know we�re being manipulated. Yet when someone blows the lid off the manipulation campaign � as Rondeau has � we can hardly miss it. And once we know what�s going on, we naturally and rightly resent it. ******* Rondeau�s article isn�t likely to get much coverage in the standard media outlets, for obvious reason. Nor is it likely to get wide attention among academics, since it ran in the journal of a conservative Christian university. (Academic snobbery can play as big a role as liberal politics.) ******* But the Internet transcends traditional media and academic gatekeepers. If half the people who read this column forward it to a few of their friends, word will get around to an awful lot of folk. Not as many as watch Will & Grace, mind you, but maybe enough to get a real debate going on the merits of homosexuality � on issues like where it comes from (click here and here), what's wrong with it and how it distorts God's plan (click here and here). ******* A real debate. Somehow I think that�s the last thing the Kirks and Madsens of the world want to see. ******* 1 According to Debra Haffner, former head of the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States, scriptural passages positively portray "sexual contact and love between men." David and Jonathan were lovers, and Abraham asks his servant to swear an oath by putting "your hand under my thigh" (Genesis 24:2). ******* But a team of theologians led by Craig Blomberg of Denver Seminary points out (in "What the Bible Really Says About Sex") that "only modern Westerners unfamiliar with the physical expression of friendship between men in the Middle East would mistake the Bible's references for homosexuality." The placement of Abraham�s servant�s hand near an intimate location, for example, was an expression of the solemnity of a vow. ******* The authors are especially unimpressed with claims of homosexuality in the case of the unmistakably heterosexual David. "After Jonathan has been killed in battle, David does indeed lament that 'his love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.' But . . . David's whole point in this text is that Jonathan was his 'blood brother' with a loyalty that surpassed that which mere eroticism creates." ******* 2 Unlike the other quotes from Kirk and Madsen, this one doesn�t appear in Rondeau�s article. In Vancouver, parents narrowly blocked homosexual activists from placing their books in kindergarten classes. ******* In the U.S., the American Psychiatric Association came under heavy pressure to remove pedophilia from its list of mental disorders. Newsweek featured same-sex couples attending their high school proms. "Instead of sparking controversy, schools are saying, what's the big deal?" ******* The campaign to change the heterosexual norm is intensifying. Straights need to realize that they are under siege from big government and big business. ******* The majority of homosexuals are good people who want to be left alone. Homosexual organizations, however, are funded by elite foundations and corporations to destabilize society by shredding its heterosexual fabric. I will expand on the reasons why next week. ******* Gay activists pretend they are seeking "tolerance" and "equality." But privately they admit that their hidden agenda is to reshape society in their own image. "The forms of sexuality considered natural have been socially created and can be socially transformed." Only social conditioning makes us different. Homosexuality is love of the same. They depict normal heterosexual behaviour as pathological. Men are abusers and the heterosexual family is oppressive. The way to social justice is to abolish heterosexuality altogether. Straights can't even defend their own sexuality for fear of accusations of "homophobia" and "sexism." These days anyone who does not want to be gay is homophobic. ******* 2) Typical Marxists, they practice deceit successfully. They attracted widespread support by pretending to champion women when in fact they always had a revolutionary homosexual agenda. Now politicians and media are in massive denial because they have empowered these radicals and put them in charge of education. The situation is comparable to the liberal refusal in the late 1940's to admit the government was riddled with Soviet spies. This was part of the same phenomenon of Rockefeller Communism. ******* TEACHING CHILDREN TO BE GAY ******* Many public schools virtually "break the ice" for gays. For example, the Grade Seven curriculum in Ontario introduces 12-year-old children to oral and anal sex. ******* Phyllis Benedict, president of the Ontario Elementary Teacher's Federation said the union is "trying to promote a more positive [homosexual] environment in schools." (National Post, Aug.16, 2001) ******* This extends to undermining the heterosexual family by reading books like "Aasha's Moms" and "Two Dads, Brown Dads, Blue Dads." ******* On the other hand, heterosexuality is virtually a taboo. Our children's textbooks have been rewritten to eliminate any hint that men and women might be different, live in traditional families, or behave in "stereotypical" ways. ******* As a university lecturer, I tried to teach novelists like D.H. Lawrence who portrayed male-female love in positive terms. I was accused of "sexual harassment" by feminist activists and lost my job. (Sexual harassment is now defined as anything that makes a radical feminist uncomfortable.) ******* As heterosexuals, we cannot explore our sexuality because homosexuals may be "uncomfortable." This has led to the demoralization of society. We cannot celebrate men as masculine and women as feminine. We do not celebrate heterosexual love, the greatest gift that life offers us. ******* This daily denial of our sexual identity amounts to persecution. It used to be 'live and let live.' Now illuminati-sponsored gay and feminist activists will not let us live. ******* In an episode of the TV show Friends, Rachel avoids paying a speeding fine by flirting with the handsome traffic cop. Ross takes the steering wheel and is stopped for driving too slowly. Ross tries to flirt with the male cop. The message is that we can all go both ways, even the cop. This is the reality behind the gay activist demand for "equality". It is no longer enough to tolerate them; we must become them. It doesn't matter if we are comfortable as long as they are. He did not adhere to the company's so-called "Winning & Inclusive Culture" designed to promote "diversity." This example of Soviet-style thought crime is not isolated. ******* Homosexual behaviour makes straights uncomfortable. Most men find the sight of two men kissing viscerally repulsive. ******* Gay families are not the same as ours. The adoption of straight children by gays denies the children's natural instincts and will probably affect their psychological development. In 20 years these children will be suing the government for millions of dollars. ******* Gay marriages are different from hetero marriages, and should have a different name and status. They deliberately distort our perception of marriage. As Katz says, the "secret" purpose is to "do away with the social need for the hetero/homo division." ******* In conclusion, it's time to recognize that homo and heterosexuality are in fierce competition. The gay model does not fit heterosexuals and vice-versa. There can only be one model. The issue is: will ours be a heterosexual society that tolerates a 4% gay minority? ******* Or, will it be a homosexual society that persecutes a 96% straight majority? History has many examples of minorities that have persecuted majorities. Take Communism, for example. ******* If straights don't establish the norms, gay activists will. When gay/feminist activists demand "equality," they are demanding that one model fit all. They are saying that we are the same. We are not. ******* Rejecting the homosexual model is not "intolerance" or "hatred." It is defending our natural birthright, and our families. ******* Heterosexual society is the victim of a most insidious form of persecution, psychological warfare. Eliot wrote that the world would end �not with a bang but a whimper,� perhaps explaining the collective yawn that was the nation�s reaction to �same-sex marriage,� as its proponents call it. ******* The average Canadian showed more interest in the new Harry Potter book, auto insurance, and the slimmed-down phone book than in the manipulation and restructuring of marriage that affects the single most important institution in society: the family. God help Canada when the next attack comes, on the Church itself. ******* The Church has strong teachings on the subject of homosexuality. It seeks the temporal and eternal happiness of all, including those who are attracted to the same sex, and it is commissioned to teach the truth. ******* Many people who are well informed and not the least bit given to alarmism predict it�s only a matter of time before the Church is no longer allowed to express that truth. They further suggest that it won�t be long before the Church finds itself under intense pressure to marry people whom it says cannot be married: divorced individuals, because they are already married, and members of the same sex, since it would be contrary to God�s design. ******* Others say the government would never force anyone or any institution to act against their beliefs. These are the same people who said Canada would never allow same-sex marriage, and that homosexuals only wanted to be treated with respect. ******* Such naivete would be laughable if what is at stake weren�t so serious. First of all, seismic alterations to the fabric of society don�t take place overnight. The culture is introduced to a gradual series of pre-tremors, with Canadians in typical fashion replying each time that it could have been worse. ******* It then gets worse. ******* The sceptics insist such fears are groundless, pointing out that there are rights protecting people from acting against their conscience. ******* Really? Would that be the right of a pharmacist to refuse to dispense abortion pills? That right has been eliminated. ******* Would it be the freedom of a printer not to print pro-gay material? There�s no such freedom. ******* Ditto for the privilege of a Catholic school board to restrict a teen from taking his boyfriend to the prom. ******* Trinity Western University had to go to the highest court in the land to keep the right to apply Christian conduct on campus, and the court only found in the university�s favour because there was no evidence of discrimination. ******* An Ontario physician who objected to dispensing birth control and Viagra to unmarried patients had to fight his professional college for the right to do so, and even now has to warn his patients in advance that he�s a Christian. ******* On and on it goes: ******* A Christian schoolteacher in B.C. is sanctioned for writing letters to the editor expressing concern about homosexual activism. A Christian is fined for running newspaper ads that cited biblical quotations against homosexual acts. A school board that doesn�t want pro-gay books on its teaching resource list is told by the courts that it can�t restrict them on the basis of their moral content. Some U.S. states are a pen stroke away from ordering Catholic hospitals to provide the morning-after pill, and Catholic employers to provide benefits that are morally offensive. ******* Does anyone seriously believe that in this era of the �new tolerance,� anyone would think twice about cracking down on the Church? ******* Paul Nathanson doesn�t. He�s a homosexual, yet he opposes gay marriage. With McGill University colleague Katherine Young, he argues superbly that religious institutions are unlikely to be exempt from gay marriage for long. �Exemptions might be politically expedient for the time being, sure, but how long would religious communities be able to withstand the charge of violating human rights by refusing to solemnize gay marriages? And that charge would inevitably be made. If gay marriage were a human right, after all, how could any religious group be justified in denying it?� ******* Young and Nathanson say religious communities will become �even more marginalized than they already are in an increasingly secular society� and will face legal challenges to any promotion of heterosexual bonding. One almost wishes they would be so audacious. Last week, actress Jada Pinkett Smith won an award from the Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations. During her acceptance speech, she told women in the audience, "you can have it all - a loving man, devoted husband, loving children, a fabulous career. To my men, open your mind, open your eyes to new ideas." ******* Rather sweet, no? Not to the BGLTSA, which called for an apology from the organizers of the Cultural Rhythms show, explaining that Smith's statements were "extremely heteronormative." "Heteronormative," for those who don't speak the radical homosexual lingo, may be defined as the viewpoint that heterosexual relationships are normal, and others are not. ******* The organizers immediately complied with the BGLTSA's demand, issuing a mea culpa stating, "She wasn't trying to be offensive. But some felt she was taking a narrow view, and some people felt left out." The Foundation also pledged to "take responsibility to inform future speakers that they will be speaking to an audience diverse in race, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, gender and class." ******* The BGLTSA, as a wing of the radical homosexual movement, is looking to broaden the definition of normality to include deviant behavior. They're not looking for passive tolerance. They're looking for active acceptance. Now, ignoring homosexuality is no longer allowable "we must instead champion it, equating it with heterosexuality. In fact, homosexuality must be prized over heterosexuality; an open homosexual may proclaim to his heart's content that 'dreams can come true' you can find a same-sex partner," but an open heterosexual may not state that marriage constitutes "having it all." ******* Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan noted such a broad societal trend toward normalizing the deviant as early as 1993, when he coined the term "defining deviancy down." He posited that: ... the amount of deviant behavior in American society has increased beyond the levels the community can "afford to recognize" and that, accordingly, we have been re-defining deviancy so as to exempt much conduct previously stigmatized, and also quietly raising the "normal" level in categories where behavior is now abnormal by any earlier standard. ******* Syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer pointed out that alongside the movement to "define deviancy down," there was a concurrent movement to "define deviancy up." "As part of the vast social project of moral leveling, it is not enough for the deviant to be normalized," Krauthammer wrote. "The normal must be found to be deviant." One of the agendas of the "defining deviancy up" movement, Krauthammer noted, was promoting "an underlying ideology about the inherent aberrancy of all heterosexual relationships." ******* The Moynihan-Krauthammer prediction has come to pass. Straight men and women may no longer consider themselves normal, unless they also consider homosexuality normal. The rage against "heteronormalism" is rage against traditional societal standards as a whole. Exclusive morality has always offended the immoral. The only difference is that now offensiveness receives a stiffer societal sentence than blatant immorality. This is what political correctness, the "live and let live" societal model, has wrought. ******* The rise of the homosexual movement is a textbook example of societal amorality devolving into societal immorality. The rationale behind societal amorality is the myopic question: "How does my immoral behavior hurt you?" The answer is: It may not, in the short term. But when society sanctions your immoral behavior, that does hurt me. If millions of people accept the deviant as normal, that reshapes society in vastly destructive ways. Your moral self-destruction may have no consequences for me, but destruction of societal standards always has consequences. ******* When the stigma left single motherhood, society felt the sting in rising rates of single motherhood and juvenile crime. When the stigma left sexual licentiousness, society felt the sting in rising rates of teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted disease, emotional emptiness and nihilism. Your immoral personal behavior may not affect me, but exempting your immoral behavior from societal scrutiny certainly does. A society without standards is an unhappy, unhealthy society - a society with no future. And all of us have to live in that society. ******* The BGLTSA isn't asking for tolerance on a person-to-person level. Instead, they're asking us to continue lowering societal standards. It was from a famous homosexual journalist and activist whose name I won�t mention yet. ******* He was quite politely challenging an assertion I made in my letter to you last week�politely up to a point, that is. Then he struck. He was angry about these words I�d written to you� ******* Recall last week that I mentioned the story of an elderly Christian gentleman in Britain who�d been beaten by a homosexual mob. The old man�s crime? He was using Scripture to criticize homosexuality! Not only was the old man beaten to the ground by homosexuals, but the police charged him with disturbing the peace! ******* My intention was to warn you of what might happen more and more if radical homosexuals have their way and get homosexuality included in the UN's "Universal Declaration of Human Rights" (something they�ve tried three years running and are set to try again soon). If this happens, then actions like the old man�s could be construed as a violation of the human rights of homosexuals. ******* I responded by sending the "gay" journalist proof of the crime � a speech about the incident from the British House of Lords, no less. ******* He wrote back to me and said the incident did seem horrible, but my mentioning it to you in my letter amounted to"HATE SPEECH"! He went on to call me (and for that matter, you) "bigots" who incite hatred and even violence against homosexuals. ******* Dear friend, this is living proof of the precipice we stand on. Right now, all this powerful fellow can do is call us names, whine and, probably, criticize us on his Internet blog (I'll let you know if he does). But if the radicals get their way and the UN adds homosexuality to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, then even mentioning something like the beating of the old Christian gentleman could LEGALLY become criminal "hate speech." ******* WILL I GO TO JAIL? WILL YOU? ******* I could be prosecuted, jailed and fined. So could you, if (for example) you merely wrote an anti-"gay rights" letter to the paper. So could your clergyman, if he quoted the Bible against homosexual acts. (That�s already happened in Sweden.) ******* But this attack on C-FAM is just one example of "gays" viciously attacking free speech rights and freedom of religion. Consider what they did in Boston on October 29. . . ******* Enraged that Tremont Temple Baptist Church was hosting conference of ex-homosexuals, angry "gay" militants (who had no parade permit) blockaded the street, taunted and screamed at the people inside the church, bombarded them with amplified sound, took close-up photos of them, and set two coffins with "gay" epithets on them in front of the church. ******* The police not only didn�t protect the Christians, they actually cooperated with the "gay" mob. They wouldn�t let the Christians leave the church! ******* CHRISTIAN MOM MURDERED FOR SPEAKING OUT ******* But you don�t have to hold a conference to get persecuted for speaking the truth. ******* In 2002, Mary Stachowicz, a gentle, 51-year-old Catholic mother of four in Chicago, tried to counsel Nicholas Gutierrez, a 19-year-old homosexual, about the sinfulness of homosexual acts. (As you know, to "admonish the sinner" is one of directions to us from Our Lord.) Enraged, he punched, kicked, stabbed and strangled Mary to death. She had just come from receiving Communion at her church. ******* I could give you other examples, but the point is, we need your help, and we need it now. ******* THEY WANT TO MAKE HOMOSEXUALITY A HUMAN RIGHT AND CRIMINALIZE CHRISTIAN ACTION ******* You see, meetings are going on right now in New York, Brussels, Paris and various Latin American capitals to make another attempt to inject homosexuality into the UN�s Universal Declaration. Then "gay" militants around the world will have the green light to prosecute, imprison, silence and financially wipe out anyone brave enough to speak out. Those are the real purposes of "gay rights" laws. ******* Now, let me make something abundantly clear. We have no ill will toward anyone. In fact, we love and pray for those who persecute us and for those who suffer from the slavery of same-sex attraction.
