Both are well known in the community and operate a hair salon. ******* Father Perez said his actions were in conformity with Canon Law, since he did not deny them communion because of the fact they are homosexuals, but rather because they live publicly and openly in a state which the Church teaches is not moral. ******* Father Perez stated that the Church has laws and whoever adopts a belief contrary to Church teaching cannot receive communion. ******* He also pointed out that his decision to deny them communion was carried out with the greatest of discretion so that it would not be too noticed, but that it was the homosexual couple that decided to make it a public issue. ******* I only followed the law of the Church, and therefore, he added, my conscience is clear. *********************************************************************************************************************** ******* item 2 LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST PRIEST FOR DENYING COMMUNION TO GAY ACTIVIST ******* From: [email protected] ******* date: February 17 - 2005 ******* MADRID, Spain, February 17 (CNA) - A parish priest in Spain, the second in recent weeks, has become the object of a lawsuit alleging public humiliation of a militant homosexual who desired to receive Communion. ******* Father Domingo Garcia Dobao, pastor of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Jaen, Spain, has been sued by Juan Diego Fuentes Medina after the priest publicly denied him Communion for registering his gay union with Angel de los Reyes with local officials. ******* Father Garcia explained his decision by pointing out that by making formally public a situation the Church is against, they cannot receive Communion. I have only applied ecclesiastical norms, he added. ******* What I did, said Father Garcia, was fulfill my obligations, as this is what the Church teaches. A Christian cannot receive the sacraments when he or she is officially living in a non-marital union with someone else. ******* Father Garcia reminded reporters that Fuentes had been administered Communion at Mass on various occasions before formalizing his homosexual union, but that the decision to publicly register the union with the government obliged him to make his decision. ******************************************************************************************************** ******* item 3 ARCHBISHOP OF VALENCIA OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS TO MOTHERS AND CHILDREN SAVED FROM ABORTION ******* From: "CNA news" ******* January 6 - 2005 ******* VALENCIA, Spain, January 6 (CNA) - Archbishop Agustin Garcia-Gasco of Valencia, Spain, has announced that hundreds of women who chose life rather than abortion for their children will be eligible for full scholarships at Catholic educational institutions. ******* The archbishop made the announcement during a Christmas visit to a womens shelter founded and operated by the Servants of the Passionfor over 69 years. ******* The shelter provides assistance to 21 pregnant women and mothers of small children who are poor, lack family support or are victims of abuse. Aurora Gallego, director of the shelter, said its mission is to work to deepen in women the value of life and their self esteem as persons. ******* The scholarships will benefit women at the shelter, their children and those who have been in residence there in the past, totaling more than 15,000 people. Mothers will be able to study at the Catholic University of Valencia, at diocesan schools and other educational centers associated with the Church. ******* Gallego added that the women currently in residence at the shelter received the news with much enthusiasm and expectation as many of them wish to get an education and work towards a future in the professional world. ********************************************************************************************************* ******* item 4 CARDINAL CARLES: CONSCIENCE IS ABOVE THE LAW- CNA April 28 - 2005 ******* From: [email protected]View Contact Details ******* BARCELONA, Spain, April 28 (CNA) - The Archbishop emeritus of Barcelona, Cardinal Ricard Maria Carles, expressed his support for mayors of Spains Partido Popular (Popular Party) who are opposing homosexual marriages, because the law cannot be above conscience.
