A GLIMPSE OF THE PAST

Mito has just finished her daily house works and finally have the rest of the day for herself. So she decided to have a luxurious bath as a rest. As she settled comfortably in the warm bathtub, she couldn’t help but think of Gon.

She gave a sigh. “I wonder where is that boy.” She murmured to herself with a smile. Somehow she knew that Gon is allright.

Three days ago Gon and Killua just left, in search for Gon’s father. Both Gon and Killua are very young to search for someone who is literally running away from them. However, knowing both their skills she wouldn’t be surprised to know that one day they would really find who they are looking for.

Her smile quickly faded as she remembered who they are looking for. Jin, Gon’s father. At the realization, memories started to crawl in her mind.

            When she was still young…

As soon as the memories were there Mito started to shook her head. And went out of the bath in a rush.

She was already dressed but the memories of her childhood with Jin keep on haunting her. And she was starting to become irritable and stormed out of her room. “Heaven’s sake! Why of all the people… that good for nothing Jin ---“

“Did I hear anyone say Jin?” Her mother asked with a grin on her face.

Mito quickly turn red. “No I didn’t mention his name… so if you’ll excuse me I’ll have a long walk” she tried to say the words as calmly as she could and headed for the door.

But as soon as Mito touch the door knob her mother called her “you don’t say Jin’s name often I know it isn’t easy for you now that you’ve mentioned his name maybe you’re learning to forgi---“

“I didn’t say any name… now please excuse me” she snapped and left the house.

How could her own mother think that she’s finally learning to forgive him. No--- not in this life. She was so furious with him knowing she would scratch his eye of if she’d see him this minute.

She kept thinking of this as she walked without realizing how far she’ve gone to the forest. When the realization dawn her it was too late. She already stops on a false ground and went tumbling down a hole. She tried to control her fall but failed as her head hit something hard and was unconscious for a moment.

The warmth and pressure on her head waked her up and realized there was a man sitted in front of her.

“So you’ve finally wake up.” The man said.

Somehow Mito had a rush of memories on her still dizzy mind. Where did she hear that voice before? As she try to sit she winced in pain of a cut in her head.

“Take it easy… you fall and hit your head in a wood… don’t worry I already fixed your wound” said the man as he help her sit.

“Well I can see that.” Mito hesitated, and then looked around… the place is also somewhat familiar to her. Afterwards she settled her eyes at the man who sat beside her casually.

He is so familiar. His hair, eyes, lips, everything about him seems familiar to her.

“Urm… excuse me sir but have we met before? I mean you looked rather familiar to me.”

The guy smiled then “maybe… you seems familiar… rather familioar.” He said meaningfully.

She sigh and change the subject tactfully “I seem to remember this place.”

The man at her side smiled at her. “You should… anyway the island is your home.” The man told her in an amused voice.

“How about you, do you live here?”

“I used to… but not anymore.”

After what seems to be long silence Mito began to stand but again the pain in her head was there.

“You shouldn’t force yourself to move, you know.” The man again who helped her to stand.

“Can you help me go home?”

The man lifted an eyebrow “and I thought your familiar with this place!”

Mito hesitated “yes, but… I remember it only vividly.”

The stranger smiled at her tenderly then looked at the small opening. “There is a small fall out there, would you like to see it?” he asked.

A fall? She remembered being stranded in a cave near a fall and it was Jin who found her then.

Slowly she walked through the opening. And as she saw the view outside all the memories of her childhood were remembered clearly.

“I almost forgot how this looks like” she whispered to herself.

“A beauty like this shouldn’t be forgotten.” Was all the man beside her said.

“Can I go home now?” she asked again.

            The stranger nodded in response.

In a matter of hour they were already near Mito’s house.

“Youre not going to tell me you name?” she asked the silent man beside her,.

“Does it matter to you who ever am I?… anyway I won’t be remembered again after today.” The man said without looking at her.

Remembered again? It seems that the man’s word have so many meaning.

When they are already in front of the house it was Mito who speak again.

            “Thank you… very much.”

“No… it should be me who must thank you.”

Mito tried to say something but the man cut her off.

“Mito, thank you… so much for taking good care of Gon… thank you.” The stranger started to leave but Mito couldn’t do anything.

            Jin is leaving again.
