It is hard to believe that it was 30 years ago that we were busy getting ready for final exams, school sporting events (track & field) and graduation from High School.  I am really thankful for the opportunity to return to Fraser Valley for Grade 12 graduation back in 1977.  Time has sure flown by!  It has been good to read how the LORD has blessed us throughout the years.  I am looking forward to catching up with those that will be able to attend the reunion on May 4TH.  Betty and I will have been married for 27 years at the end of June this year and we have been blessed with 4 children (1981, 1983, 1986, 1987) that love the LORD.  The picture is of our daughter Jennifer’s wedding to Jordon in August of 2003 (last time I wore a tuxedo).  Also pictured (from left to right); are our middle son Jonathon (family missionary - YWAM in Western Australia & Egypt, and soon in India assisting Rev. Poelman), yours truly, the aforementioned bride and groom, my beautiful wife Betty (who was also our daughters maid of honor), our oldest son, David (following my footsteps in business), and our youngest son Daniel (studying criminology at UCFV).

We attend Immanuel Covenant United Reformed Church here in Abbotsford where we have lived since 1980 shortly after we were married.  I am currently an elder in our church and more recently a discussion leader for BSF (Bible Study Fellowship).  Our son Jonathan is one of the youth leaders in the church and we hope to be chaperoning the youth group to their convention in Winnipeg later this month.

I have enjoyed working for the same company since September of 1978 (Thiessen Team) which became part of Atlas Copco in May of last year.  I have and still do travel extensively for our company in my current role of Business Development Manager training up to 58 Atlas Copco Sales Companies globally about our products and their application in the Mining Industry.  I have had the opportunity to travel to many countries multiple times including Australia, Brasil, Chile, China, South Africa, Russia, Sweden and France.

A 30TH reunion is a good time to reflect on our lives, our relationship to the LORD, and to be thankful for those persons that He has brought into our lives to draw us ever nearer to Him.

In closing I would like to leave you with some teaching and encouragement from the Apostle Paul to the Church in Philippi, which I pray for each of you and your families: Rejoice in the LORD always.  Again I say rejoice!  Let your gentleness be known to all men.  The LORD is at hand.  Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.  Finally brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy…meditate on these things.  The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do and the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4: 4-9

Hello fellow Alumni - how can it be 30 years since Grad???  I hope all of you attending will have a fun time of re-acquainting and reminiscing. I have enjoyed the stories and pictures of fellow grads.
Perry and I have lived in Alberta for 25 years now, and 3 years ago moved to 4 acres northwest of Calgary. The house is older, and we are (mostly) enjoying renovating it.
I am taking riding lessons, and plan to finally have my own horse by the time I'm 50!  We both work from home: I have an interior decorating business, specializing in custom draperies, blinds, and other home accessories, which I sew in my basement "studio".  Perry works for a health care company,  installing and maintaining medical laboratory equipment.  We attend Rockpointe Alliance Church,  just 5 minutes away in the countryside.
Our oldest son, Matt (25) is getting married this summer. After lots of travelling, and working for Samaritan's Purse in Kenya, he is settling down in Calgary, working at an engineering firm. His wonderful fiancé, Louise, is an occupational therapist.
Last summer our second son, Dan (23) married his sweetheart Aileen. Dan is in the finance/trading department at Enmax Utilities, and Aileen works for an event planning company.
Our daughter Sarah (20) is working at an oil and gas company. She is going to South Africa with others from her church in May and June to work with HIV/AIDS victims. And she is finishing recording her first CD.
I like what Antoinette said about her kids, and we experience the same: it truly is a blessing to enjoy their company as adults, and are thankful for who they are, and their walk with Jesus.

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to share what is happening in their lives. It has been interesting reading your stories. When I read your family biographies, it makes me realize again how fast time goes by. Lynn and I have been married since 1985 and live in the house we built together in Langley in 1987. I still keep in contact with a few members of our class, mostly through my work as a renovation contractor and some extended family events. Lynn works as a secretary at a Christian counselling office and does the accounting for our business. We have two daughters,Christina and Jessica. Christina is completing a two year program at Dordt College this May. Jessica is in grade 11 at Langley Christian School. I could tell you lots more about them, but once I start I have a hard time stopping. It's great to see how far the school community has spread out from the Lower Mainland and is making a difference in other areas of the world. A special thanks to everyone who has helped in organizing the reunions.

Family Update  - Life is so fascinating and ever changing. Last year brought many changes to our family, my father passed away in February, my step mom in August, and Martin and I separated at the end of September. In amongst many loses I can see God’s goodness and faithfulness continually blessing our lives. The last year has been rough and raw but very real and exciting. God is good.

Our two older daughters are busy pursuing university educations, Michelle is at Trinity Western finishing her second year in a Psych degree, and Tanya is in her third year of a Psych degree as well, at the University College of the Fraser Valley. Cameron our son, is in grade eleven. All three of them are doing well and are awesome people. Its so great to be at this stage of life and to look at our kids and say “I like them, I not only love them, I like them as people.” They live their lives with passion, commitment, courage, integrity and laughter.

I too am in university working on a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. This is something I have always wanted to do, and I’ve been working at it for along time already. I hope to graduate in two years. I graduated with a diploma in Social Services from UCFV in June 2006.

Pete VanBeek

Hello everyone. I've enjoyed reading the updates on classmate's
lives, so I thought I would contribute my own. Since leaving
Vancouver I have lived in Waterloo, Ontario with a 10 year detour to Edmonton in the middle of those years to meet my wife Tracey. My daughter Shoukia is now 12 and angelic most of the time. We are happily settled in Waterloo. My wife is a street nurse among the homeless and working poor in the downtown core, I teach Computer Science at the university, and my daughter attends a great Christian (Mennonite) school. We follow an ecumenical approach to religion: In addition to my daughter's Mennonite school, my wife is Catholic, and we attend a CRC on Sundays. I have been blessed in the last 30 years with a wonderful wife and daughter and a career that I consider my calling. There has also been sadness in my life. My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's almost 10 years ago and the disease has progressed to the point where she no longer knows who I am and she no longer speaks. I miss having her in our lives. All the best to all of you.

Judy & I have just celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary on Mar 11/07. We were blessed with 4 children and now are being blessed with grandkids. Our oldest son, Shane & Maria (Dehaas) have 1 son (6 mths old) and live in Clearbrook where Shane is a floor layer. Our daughter lives in Walnut Grove Langley and is assistant manager in the Aldergrove Lordco store. Tyler, (our 23 yr old) bought his own house approx. 5km away from us and works for a transport company. Brandon our youngest
( 21 years old) is back living with us after having a shoulder injury in Edmonton, and is also a floor layer in this area. Judy & I own a 50,000 bird poultry operation, board horses and have approx 50 cow/calf pairs for the months of the year that it is not winter. We are attending the Brethren in Christ church in which Judy is very involved. For the last several years we have been involved with the Mennonite Central mission and have gone to Bolivia and several times to Kentucky. God has blessed us both with good health and the resources to be involved in mission outreach. God Bless you and your families.

Selene Taylor (Luymes)

Life in the Taylor family like most of your lives is very busy. We live in
Sarnia, Ontario and our eldest son is Denver, age 8 and he's involved in swimming lessons, basketball, soccer and parent participation piano lessons, so the taxiing has begun.  Our next son, Cody is 7 and keeps us young chasing him with his antics as a boy with Down Syndrome. Along with him comes a lot of extra tutoring type work as he has speech therapy homework, reading homework, and just a lot of repetition in all departments (including discipline).  Our daughter Jewell (who attended our 25 yr grad reunion as a baby) is now 5 and for the most part is living up to her name. She is the family comic and is involved in swimming lessons, gymnastics, soccer and defending herself against or trying to keep up to her 2 brothers. We are quite involved in the church we attend.  My husband Ron is one of the worship leaders and I myself am the head book keeper for the church as well as the community centre it operates as since we bought the old YMCA building complete with swimming pool.  Add to that I do book keeping for about a dozen small businesses. As challenging as this sometimes is, it has allowed me to be a stay at home mom. Sorry, we will be missing this reunion - we are planning to make a trip to BC in August with the whole family. God bless you all!

Sara Baartman (Ostermeier)

Hello everyone.  I and my husband Rick recently celebrated our 27th
wedding anniversary.  We still live in Surrey in the Sullivan Heights
area. Rick continues to work at TRIUMF at UBC as a physicist. and I still am at home. 4 of our 5 children have moved out.  Our 2 daughters are both married, and have made us grandparents!  We have a grandson who is 13 months old, and a grandaughter who is 8 months old.  I spend a lot of time with them, and we love being grandparents.
Our 2  sons live close by also, and are busy in their respective careers.  They come home often for dinner  and visits.  Our youngest son is 16 and in grade 11.  We tell him he is never allowed to leave. :-).  The Lord has blessed us so richly, and we thank Him everyday for His grace and love to us.  Looking back, it is hard to believe that 30 years have passed since we all have graduated, but they have been wonderful years.

Who can believe it's been 30 years since we graduated!  This is a picture of our family taken last December 2006. Jim and I are blessed with two daughters, Justine (17) and Jenna (15).  We live in Enterprise, Oregon, about a 10 hour drive from "home" in B.C.  We've lived here for 9 years after moving from Grand Rapids, Michigan. We try to make it up to B.C. 3-4 times a year, and we get family visits to our place as well.
Justine will be attending Trinity Western in the fall and is looking forward to it. Jenna's considering it as a possible option in 2 years.
I don't think we'll be able to make the reunion as we were just in B.C. and will be coming again for a family wedding in June.
Have a wonderful time together and send pictures!

Marian VanLaar (Onderwater)

I'm a new Grandma!  Grandaughter Adelle is 3 months old, and the spitting image of her daddy, which means she looks like me.
Arnold and I have been married for 26 years.  Our 4 sons, David, Michael, Geoffrey and Philip are all graduated now.  David also graduated from UBC as a Mechanical Engineer.  He's the new dad.  He and his wife Carla live in Chilliwack, so we see them often.  Michael is still studying at SFU.  He switched  from Engineering to Science.  Geoffrey married Ashley, from Baarhead Alberta, and they live nearby in Rosedale.  Geoff works full time on our farm, and hopes to start his own farm in Alberta one day.  Phil plans to study Civil Engineering at BCIT this Sept.  Our girls Julia and Linda are still in Highschool. They both love farm life, and riding their horses.
To celebrate our 25th anniversary, Arnold and I enjoyed a trip to Australia last year.
I am a full time Homemaker, and Farm wife/bookeeper, and also enjoy gardening, baking, and reading when I have time.
