Erich Jacoby-Hawkins : Your Choice for Ward 10

I have owned a home in the Minet's Point area of Ward 10 since 2000.

I have always been interested in issues of good planning, long-term focus, and a sustainable environment and economy. Since moving here with my family almost seven years ago, I have worked in local volunteer groups to try to improve life for citizens of Barrie. Running for Council is an outgrowth of that dedication.

I studied Mathematics and Computer Science, then Anthropology, to get my Bachelor's degree at the University of Waterloo, where I also took part in the cooperative learning program, working at 5 different corporations (including the City of Toronto) between school terms. I also served as a student representative on several governing bodies and as editor of the faculty student paper.

I then spent 3 years teaching English conversation in South Korea, where I witnessed a number of different ways for a modern society to address problems of land, resources, economics, transportation, and social issues.

Upon returning to Canada, my wife and I settled in Barrie where I teach English writing by correspondance part-time. Over the past 7 years, I have been involved with various community groups addressing the environment (Environmental Action Barrie / Living Green), homelessness (Mayor's Task Force on Affordable Housing and Barrie Out of the Cold), and the arts (Barrie Film Festival). I also founded Barrie's federal Green Party association and ran very successful campaigns in the 2004 and 2006 elections.
