1966 - 1969
It was at the end of his first encounter with the Cybermen that the 1st Doctor collapsed on the floor of the TARDIS, seemingly from exhaustion, and before the amazed eyes of Ben and Polly, regenerated into a younger man.
The second Doctor could not have been more different from his predecessor. Gone was the dignified statesman and here was a frivolous and unpredictable character.
The second Doctor could be fun-loving and devious, always carrying his famous recorder, ready to tootle a tune for anyone who'd listen, or act the idiot to gain the upper hand. Appearances cannot always be trusted, however, and the Doctor's skills with words and manipulation were still strong. This Doctor's enemies often underestimated him, and he played this card to his greatest advantage.
The second Doctor was also a master of disguise and during the course of his adventures dressed up as a washer woman, Redcoat, various soldiers, a gypsy woman, and indeed anyone that would allow him to continue his fight against evil.
The Second Doctor's era came to end when he was put on trial by the Time Lords for meddling with Time, and exiled to Earth with a forced regeneration.Companions: Ben Jackson, Polly, Jamie McCrimmon, Victoria Waterfield, Zoë Heriot,
