An Answer To A Prayer
Part XI

Felicity had almost given up hope when she heard scratching on the box. Someone was lifting the dirt off her. She was terrified that Tiffani decided to open it and stab her to death but to her equal dismay, it was the man who dug her in in the first place. He had a dagger in his hand and he bent down and stabbed in the box. Felicity screamed. "Quiet! You'll get us both in trouble!" he hissed. He brought his dagger back up to the surface, the scorpion dead on the end and offered his hand down to her. She couldn't believe her eyes. "Are you going to torture me?" she whimpered. "Does it look like it? Hurry, she'll be back soon." he said, moving his extended hand closer to her. She grabbed it and jumped out, using him as a support as the snake that was curled up at her feet stretched out along the bottom.

She took a few deep breaths, inhaling the smoke a few times before realising it was smoke. "I'm sorry about your partner." the man said, motioning to the charred corpse tied to the post. "Derrick?" she gulped, her eyes widening. "No.. No!" she said, running to it. Tears sprung to her eyes as she fell to her knees in front of the post. Within a few hours her entire life had been turned upside down. The man grabbed her arm and helped her up to her feet, rubbing her back comfortingly as she turned to him and cried in his arms. "I want to go home." she cried. "Let's get you out of here then. Come help me bury this before Tiffani returns." he said, pointing to the box in the hole. She nodded and together they compacted the land so it looked as if it never was disturbed.

"Who are you?" Feli asked as they walked quickly through the streets. "I am Alex Miller, a dyrling not unlike yourself." he said, passing a street as a bolt of lightning struck a house nearby. "Why are you helping me? I thought you were with her?" Feli asked, her eyes lowered as they passed a group of men. "I too have a sister and I protect her no matter what. I felt guilty about helping Tiffani kill you. Saving you is the least I can do." he said, taking longer strides. He led her to a man with a horse drawn carriage. "This is where we part ways. I trust this man will take you to Telrae'dor where you can find your way to safety." he said, eyeing the man at the carriage. With a simple nod of his head, Feli boarded the carriage. Alex turned and headed back to the Cloak and Dagger, Feli watching him leave. She felt so empty but she knew why she was alive. Athlendyr willed it. He had come to her within her darkest hour and she loved him for it. There was just one stop she had to go before she went home.
