I was not impressed with
Pine Valley CG since no one was around and I couldn't see what the actual
campsites looked like..This CG would prove handy if you were visiting both
Akron and Canton as it is located north of Canton and South of Akron just off
Arlington Rd. This should be a very quiet CG as there is no highspeed traffic
anywhere nearby.. I-77 is easily accessed and is only about 6 to 10 min. away,
either going south or north from the CG.
Entrance sign to Pine
Valley C.G. just as I am pulling back out of the cg.
Fishing lake for kids 12
& under.. The view is back towards Arlington Rd. to where the entrance to
the CG is..
This is the cg office and
"camp store", kinda tiny if you ask me. A sign on the door indicates
they are open 7 day's a week but no one was around and there were no sign's
indicating when they would be back..
Entrance to campground interior.
If you were to pull into this C.G and no
one was around, it would be a really nasty experience trying to turn your rig
around in the little parking lot by the store/cg office if you had a long 5er
or a large MH & were pulling a toad.
The following two pictures are from the
boondocking area available to RV-Club folks. This land is part of the farm that
a good friend owns and has graciously offered for RV parking. John and Shirly
Hunter are their names and both are ham radio license holders. KB8ZWY is his
call sign and usually 2 meter's is where they frequent the most. Should you
want to contact the Hunter's via E-Mail, click the link below.. Otherwise, just
send me an e-mail telling when you want to boondock and I'll give "Big
John" a call and tell him when he is going to have some company..
E-MAIL John & Shirley
Looking back towards Dueber Ave from John
Hunter's very long driveway. I am standing in front of the field where it is OK
to boondock. The oil tank is about 50 feet back from Dueber Ave. John and wife
Shirley's farm house/log cabin are at the end of the drive about 1/4 mile from
where this picture was taken from.
This is the field where you may boondock.
I have spliced two pictures together to help visualize the size of this area. I
would guess that there is at least one acre cleared and reasonably level. There
is enough room to have a get-together here if enough RV-Clubbers were to be in
town at the same time
The following 4 pictures
are of the KOA CG that is about 12 miles south of Canton..
The sites are fairly close together and
the access road's form a triangle.. Only sites 1 thru 9 have a sewer hookup per
a sign on the door of the office.
The CG office and camp
store seem to be a decent size. Showers are located at the near end of the
building.
Once again, there
was no one about when I visited the CG to take these pictures.. I guess no one
was expecting any visitors on a Sunday afternoon or else they were out doing
their Christmas shopping..
Sorry about the picture quality but the
converting of a .tiff to a .jpg and then re-sizeing causes some strange things
to happen. This is the sheet handed out to the camper showing where the
campsites are located. You can see that this is a small campground.. There are
some permanent sites on the side of the hill that are seasonal rentals and
about 30 units are parked there right now. (Dec. 1998)
This map shows the best way's to get to John's farm and
also to the KOA CG
There are a few more campgrounds around Canton, but,
these 3 I have listed are the closest to the Football Hall of Fame. Bear Creek
is about 12 miles to the HOF. John's farm is about 7 miles to the HOF. Pine
Valley is also about 10 or 12 miles away from the HOF. Both these campgrounds
are listed in Map'N'Go 4.0 as are the other ones a little further out. When I
get the time to check out the Amish country CG located just outside of
Winesburg Oh. on route 62, I'll add them to this page also.. Untill then, have
yourself a really great Holiday Season and I'll be looking for a visit in the
spring.. Dave
PS- The north side of Canton on I-77 is where all the
large shopping centers and mall's are located. We have a Wallmart, (not a super
center), also a Sam's Club and a B.J's Wholesale Club, a couple of K-mart's,
Target, Acme-Click, a Cracker Barrel and a ton more.. Some folks in this town
must have a hell of a lot of money to keep all these store's in this town out
of the red.. We also have 3 good sized RV Dealers within 5 miles of each other.
Sirpilla RV, Winns RV, and Clay's RV. A Camping World is located in Brunswick
Ohio and is about a 50 min. drive north-west.. It is located right at the
Brunswick exit on I-71. For someone leaving the Canton area and heading
northwest, you may want to keep the C.W. store in mind.. I also have a good
friend who has a large and busy welding shop so if you arrive here in Canton
with something broken that can be welded or fabricated, you will be taken care
of right snappy like..
