| You may have noticed that my werewolves differ slightly from classic European werewolves as normally depicted. Mine are loosely based on stories told to me by elders of my family who were only one or two generations removed from living as part of a tribe of Native Americans. The rules seem to be different for the most part for Native American werewolves though there are some similarities. Basically a brave calls on a sort of Arch Spirit to inhabit his body that has all of the traits of the animal in question though sometimes to a greater degree than the animal itself. Some of the danger though is that the Spirit of the Wolf, Bear etc... are very strong and may take over and kill or displace the spirit of the brave, thus creating a werewolf instead of a shapeshifter or as in some books "animagus". One rule is that if you bite a person while in wolf form you must kill him or an evil wolf spirit will inhabit him. This parallels the European legends. Another rule is that you must never eat human flesh though the person who told me the stories seemed to think that it was okay to bite someone to death, otherwise you will be locked into wolf form. This pretty much parallels the rule of not eating food while in the land of fairy. |
