SAILOR MOON!
Usagi is a fourteen year old girl at the beginning of the Sailor Moon series who becomes a Sailor Senshi unintentionally. Usagi, of course, is the heroine and protagonist of the series. Usagi is quite clumsy and does fairly poorly at school although she does try very hard (especially as the series progresses and she gets closer to university). One of the many annoyances Usagi has in her life is her brother Shingo; she lives with him and her mother and father. However, despite all of her actions to the contrary, she still loves her brother in her own unique way. Usagi is not known for her lack of punctuallity and often is found running to school late after having slept in. However, Usagi is known for her odango (ball like hair representing a Japanese dish)--this hair style is unique to say the least. Usagi is very loyal to all of her friends including Naru and the other Senshi most of the time; when it counts Usagi can be depended on. As the series progresses, Usagi becomes much more mature. At the beginning of Sailor Moon, Usagi is a "baby" and often has a lack of courage. She didn't take fighting seriously and often tried to runaway. This leads everyone to underestimate her and causes everyone to doubt that she is the Moon Princess. Later on as the other senshi appear, Usagi becomes much more of a leader and develops a stronger character. She is always willing to save anyone rather than kill; in the R movie she gives up to Fioret rather than let her friends die; in S she refuses to let the Outer Senshi destroy Hotaru and Mistress 9; and in SuperS she leaps off a building high in the sky to save a plummeting Chibimoon. Usagi is extremely naive, innocent, and too trusting, as she tends not to know what is going on and trusts anybody and everybody. (She thinks that Luna and Artemis are just 'good friends;' she trusts the Starlights immediately.) Tskuino Usagi is Sailor Moon. She is also Princess Serenity, the daughter of Queen Serenity, the ruler of the Moon Kingdom in the action preceeding. Later on, in the future Crystal Tokyo, she becomes Queen Neo-Serenity and is married to King Endymion and bears Chibi Usa. The name "Serena" is obviously derived from Usagi's Japanese name as a princess, which can be spelled "Selenity" or "Serenity". In Japanese, there is no distinction between the sounds "l" and "r", and the name has two ori- gins. The first is the reference to the Sea of Serenity on the moon, where the moon palace was located (manga volume 3). The second is to the moon goddess Selene. Japanese merchandise that uses Roman letters spells it with an "r". In the original version, Usagi's regular name wasn't the same as her name as a princess. On the other hand, in it her mother on the moon was also named Serenity, giving her mother and her the same name. Since Serenity is more commonly used by English speakers, this is most probably her name but it has obviously come from Selene. She is the first Sailor Senshi after Sailor V. Usagi was walking to school one day when she happened to save a cat from being tortured. The cat in actuality was Luna, and her job was to find the Sailor Senshi and the Moon Princess. Usagi is the best possible leader of the Sailor Senshi, and the most important person, obviously. She usually always ends up with the last attack to destroy the monster of the day, and for the most part is the one that defeats the final villain, though in SMS, that is debatable, as Saturn was actually the one who might have been responsible for destroying Master Pharoah 90. One of the events that continues through the series is Usagi's relationship with Chiba Mamoru. This starts out as a hatefilled relationship between the two of them; this is a direct contrast between their admiration for each of in their roles as Tuxedo Kamen and as Sailor Moon. At the beginning of the series she throws her test in his face (by accident) and he then calls her meatball head. The relationship between Usagi and Mamoru then evolves into a full bloomed romance, resulting in their marriage later on. Of course they have their ups and downs and split up at one point, he gets taken over by evil and then moves to America, but they always remain strong.
