Basic Grammer: LESSON 5
Notes on Pronunciation and writing systems
This is a rather short lesson, but it's been on my mind since well... the first lesson, and I couldn't find a decent place to fit it in (bla bla bla excuses excuses) well...a hem, yes! You need to know how to pronunciate Japanese before you can speak or hear the words correctly. The good thing is, there are only 5 vowel sounds- the only sounds you need to be worried about!
The 5 basic vowel sounds of japanese are as follows:
a - 'ah.'
i - 'ee'
u - 'oo'
e - 'eh'
o - 'oh'

That's it, that's all you need to worry about. As long as you can get these sounds, any thing you say in japanese will sound correct. Well, almost.

ALPHABETS-
The Japanese have three alphabets- two phonetic (kana), and one based on pictographic symbols(kanji). At first, I was going to put a kana chart up- but I found a really nice site that teaches all the alphabets, and quite well! So go to
www.kanachart.com to learn your alphabets!
