Well, futurama_cuts is aimed at people who don't have SkyDigital (maybe because it's so extortionately expensive) and only watch Futurama on Channel 4, which censors bits of it. It's also for those who have Sky One, who still don't get all episodes uncut. But I hope any Futurama fan would be interested. |

If you've ever seen "The Snipsons", a site about cuts to the Simpsons, you'll know what this is about, except that The Snipsons had a petition, while I'm resigned to the fate that Futurama will be cut for ever more (But if enough people - we're talking millions here - sign the petition at petitiononline.com, they might reconsider).
C4's cutting of Futurama leaves episodes incomplete and often less funny. So why does it happen? Well, the reason is, Futurama's shown in the early evening when kids who may be shocked by the word 'ass' might be watching (even though they use that word in the Bible, and pro wrestling, which is almost exactly like a Bible). |

The reason it gets shown then, despite being a teen-or-above show, can be traced back to The Simpsons in the early 1990s. Because Matt Groening's creation was a 'family show' then, (without the Bart-strangling or repeated use of the word 'ass' that we know and love today) it was shown at a family time. But, as it developed into the Bart-strangling, 'ass'-saying laughfest we know and love, it stayed at the same time.
So, in 2000, when C4 started to show Futurama, because it was an animation by Matt Groening, they showed it at the same time as BBC showed The Simpsons - 18:00 (6pm), which by then was the wrong time.
I can't understand why C4 don't just show some Futurama episodes at 21:00 (9pm) instead of cutting them. This would keep most fans happy (as long as they didn't then start moving Futurama back to the middle of the night as they have with some other shows in the past...) and stop the easily-offended people from complaining. But hey, it ain't ever gonna happen buster. |
