Inattentional Blindness, generally speaking, is a psychological term applied to a situation in which people are unable to detect unexpected objects they aren't paying attention to (e.g., that deer that was standing by the side of the road but you missed seeing until it was introduced to your front bumper). See a good example of this phenomenon employing a card trick.
