HAPPY LAO NEW YEAR 2003
Sabai Dee Pee Mai Lao

Welcome to my special page on Lao New Year. Lao New Year is next week from April 13-15. As a Lao person, I find this time of the year really special because you get to go around to the temples and splash water on unsuspecting victims (heh heh). But it's not all fun & food, Lao New Year is a celebration to cleanse the 'dirtiness' and 'unpurities' from the previous year to ensure a prosperous one next year. When I was little, I used to go to the temple with my family and we would bring perfumed water to come cleanse the buddha statues at the temple. What's also cool is that Lao New Year is also the same time as Cambodian New Year and Songkran in Thailand; and I'm pretty sure a lot of the same traditions apply there also. Below is the wallpaper I made to celebrate Lao New Year since I won't have a chance to go back home that weekend. Enjoy!
