Chapter 5
The sound of wood-chipping woke Yui up from the rocking chair that she was sitting in. Looking around, she saw Andy's back, he was busy working, carving something as dust flew in the air.
She got up and tiptoed up to him.
"Andy." Her slight whisper jerked his muscle as he whipped around.
"Yui." His eyes grew dark. "You startled me."
"I'm sorry."
Staring at her for a moment, he pulled a wry face before breathing a little relaxed. He turned to put his chiseling tool down and went to get two bottles of water, handing one to her and one to himself. Yui took it but she did not open it.
"You have a way of just appearing out of nowhere, Yui," he said. He noticed her surprise and quickly added, "But I'm not scared. I have seen stranger things. Since you're the only one who's been able to speak to me, I'll tell you this so it doesn't look like I'm crazy. Everything I carve always seems to have a life. They just pop out of nowhere. It's my family's dark secret."
Yui raised her eyebrows at him. "Are you saying that I'm a creation you made?"
"Yes." Andy put the empty bottle aside and sat on a stool as Yui took one across from him. "When I was little, I made this puppy carving, and it actually barked. When I made a butterfly, it flew all over the place, it got to be such a pest. I remember my uncle carving a mini-house structure and it became this huge mess that he had to destroy it before the police came around to wonder what was going on."
Yui listened and was intrigued by his openness. He did not think she was real. He actually thought she was a creation he made.
"You don't believe me, right?" He nodded in acceptance and walked over to a shadow area. Pulling a cloth off, he lighted the area and Yui saw a wood carving of her bust.
"That looks...like me."
Andy lifted the statue and brought it towards her. "I saw you in my dreams this past week. You were crying and somewhere along there, you touched a part of me that no one else could. You inspired me. Yui, my love."
Love? Yui blushed rosily and turned away, but was caught by Andrew who tucked her chin up and looked at her.
"But I must say this, none of my creation blushed as pretty as you."

The outfit looked prefect on her. Jiranan couldn't believe that her beauty had been so hidden. With a few powder, a few color, and a certain hairstyle, Jiranan looked every bit as good as her sister.
"Yui, what do you think of yourself?" Jiranan softly said, staring into the mirror. "You could look good. You were only afraid to show it off. Don't worry, I will make your promise good and get back at Pakjira."
Her hand touched the mirror and a slow reflection of her formed. A reflection of a sad girl.
"I know what I can be, but I'm afraid to hurt my family," Yui's soft gentle voice said.
Jiranan only pulled her hand away from the mirror and walked down the stairs to meet her family. As usual, they were still overcoming their shock to her sudden transformation. She did not stay long for breakfast as she took out the car and went shopping for new clothing to match the new personality.
She walked in the mall as if she owned the place, aware of the stares and the looks she received from the men and only smiled flirtatiously at them. This was what she wanted. Everyone's appraisal and approval. No one would put her down.
Bags of clothes were stuffed in her hands when she walked into a shop for evening dresses and had the sales' clerk bring the latest fashionable evening ware for her to try on. In a black, backless dress streaming with diamonds at the small of her back as its train, Jiranan walked out to check herself in the mirror. As she turned at each angle, someone was watching her.
That someone stared at her with a slow shock and found himself approaching her. With a sultry smile, Jiranan turned around, her hands on her hips, to look at him.
"Yui..." He whispered.
"My name is Jiranan Manojem," she corrected. Her eyes grazed from his toe to his head and appreciation filtered through. "What a shame I don't already know your name because you are too handsome to have gone escaping my eyes."
Andrew blinked once and realized that it was not who he thought it was. The woman in front of him was not his innocent Yui. This woman was far more skilled with the way of the world and much more daring. Especially in that dress that nearly took his breath away.
"Andrew, honey!" A shrill voice called from the room nearby and out came another woman in the same black dress. When Jiranan turned to look with her eyes cocked up in surprise, the woman glared in anger. "Jiranan!"
