Chapter 2
|
"But I didnt do it. The man begged the officer, I just happened to be there, wrong place wrong timeplease believe me! he pleaded.
"Sure buddy, the officer replied sarcastically, Thats what they all say. He motioned to a fellow officer and in a few minutes, the man was taken away to a jail cell.
"Youve got to believe me! Im innocent! The man yelled as he was being taken away.
The officer knelt over his desk filling out the information for the mans arrest. He chuckled a bit, Sure, theyre all innocentif that were true would there be a need for police officers? The mans cynicism came from his many years on the force and once having been a rookie who believed in the innocence of his fellow citizens, until one too many bad cases turned him against the world. A loud voice interrupted his thoughts as he directed his attention towards the front of the station.
"Lemme go! Janie yelled at Andrew, who dragged her into the station like a worthless doll.
"Quit squirming! He scolded her as he pulled her through the waves of people. Andrew took a good hold of her arms and held her close to him, making sure she wouldnt escape.
"Another one, rookie? Officer Krit mocked Andrew. He tapped his pen on the desk as he looked Janie up and down. This ones different, but maybe notanother prostitute? He gave Janie a look that sent chills up her spine.
"You wish you dirty bastard! Janie spit out a disgusted comment.
"Why you little wench! Krit shot up from his chair and was about to seize Janie when Andrew pulled her behind him. Outta the way rookie, I have to teach this little whore a lesson!
"Shes mine. Andrew spoke sternly, No one can touch herexcept me.
"Che! Krit looked at Andrew, So youve already had her eh? Watch out, these types of girls are nothing but street trash, who knows how many men shes been through already. He sat back down at his desk.
"Why you dirty dog! Janie was going to kill him, what right did he have to say that to her. Andrew held her back and pulled her away from Krits desk.
Krit looked up with a satisfied smile on his face, Ill get you, you little wench
Andrew plopped Janie down in front of his desk and he motioned for another officer to come unlock the handcuffs. Janie rubbed her wrists, the blood had stopped and formed a crusted layer on her skin. As she picked off the blood, Andrew began filing a report on her.
"Whats your name?
"Whats it to you? she answered without looking up at him.
Andrew reached over the desk and grabbed her wrists, holding it tight. Look, if you want to get off this case as soon as possible youre going to cooperate with me, you hear!
Janie gave a dissatisfied look as she yanked her wrist away from him.
"Now were going to start this againwhats your name?
"Janie
"Janie what? Andrew asked.
"Does it matter what my last name is? She looked up at him, and seeing the serious look on his face, answered, Thienphosuwan.
"Say that again? That last name sounded oddly familiar to Andrew.
"Thien-pho-su-wan, Janie spoke slowly, Would-you-like-to-hear
Not funny. Andrew replied, but her last name was so familiar, but how?
"Age?
"21
"Family?
"Jan & Kumporn Thienphosuwan,
"Anyone else? Andrew questioned.
"Utaporn
The name made Andrew look up, now he knew where he heard her last name before. She was Utaporns sister! The man he was trying to capture for so long, he had been convicted of selling drugs among other things. Now his sister was following in his footsteps.
Andrews silence bugged Janie, You gonna ask any more questions or you gonna let me go?
"Employed? Enrolled in school?
"No, and no.
"Did you finish school? He was curious.
"Nope, I dropped out my 3rd year of college.
"I seeand now youre doing this?
"Im not admitting to anything. Janie was too sly to be lured into that kind of trap.
Andrew scribbled down a couple more things, just as Janie was leaning in to see, he took the report and gave it to another officer.
"Youre going to be spending the night here. He informed her.
"What! Janie exclaimed, But I didnt do anything wr--- she trailed off because of the look on Andrews face. I cant stay here, theres nothing but bums here!
"Well then, youll just have to get use to that now wont you? He pushed her into a jail cell along with 3 other women. Janie glanced around the cell and for the first time in her life, she was genuinely afraid. If they didnt let her goshe didnt want to think about what would happen to her parentsshe was their only hope.
"I cant stay here, Ill break out if necessary, Janie mumbled to herself as she stole out a corner, away from the other women, No matter what it takes She fought the tears brimming at her eyes, No, dont cryits been so long since you did, dont cry ever againnever again.
