The Cure set down a new world tour and a very strange thing happen when The Cure announces that they will make a show in Mxico, in Monterrey to be especific. The band records some presentations that would be an album and a video compilation: "Show" (1993) and "Paris" (1993). But the best time of The Cure was far away and the band looks very disintegrated. At the end of "Wish Tour", Porl Thompson leaves the band, because he want to stay more time with his family, but the real true was that he finish palying with Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. Later in the same year Boris announces he leaves The Cure to form a band "Shellevan Orphan". So the main members of The Cure were out. The Cure looks to be finished; Simon Gallup and the situation left the band for a while but Smith doesnt accept that Gallup left the band. Robert Smith doesnt want to accept this time that there was no more The Cure. He was working so much time and he was very happy with the goals of the curethat he wasnt thinking in a solo effort, it was not the right option for him. Smith ask to Roger ODonnell to listen a few demos and he accepted. Pery Belmonte return again to The Cure and they looking for a new drummer, The Cure put an ad in the "Melody Maker" newspaper. Jason Cooper, who was a member of the Brithish Cinematograp Institute, and member of the band "My Life Store", answer to the ad. So the Cure parched and everything again was the band that it was in the beguine with new members and an old ones. With his new band Smith was ready to record "Dredd Song", 1995. For the film "Judge Dredd" and in the same year he made a cover of David Bowies, "Young Americans", for the album "104.9 XFM", from a British Radio Station in which Chris Perry and Robert Smith collaborated as a musical directors and partners as well. The Cure was ready this time to take the production of the material that it was in the fridge for 18 months, again, the original idea was record all demos in the acoustic sound but soon this idea was rejected by Smith, who prefer to re-take taht idea of a solo record, who leaves for produce "Disintegration", so in between the dead, he found "13th", one of the most strangers songs from The Cure, if we can apply this adjective to the band, in this single The Cure, sounds more like a Mariachis Band than The Cure; It was difficult to imagine and more to describe, but again the temper of Smith gain again. Almost everything was new in the "Wild Mood Swing", in the band it doesnt appears the names of Boris, Porl and Lol; In the production team, things change Dave Allen and Tim Pop wasnt there and Parched Art as well. Only the half of the team. Andy Vella in the graphic designer and Steve Lyon (who works with Depeche Mode) was the producer of the newest bands. Actually the music marked change the roots that The Cure represent for the new bands were take by Oasis, Blur, Pulp, Radio Head & the americans Perl Jam and the depressive Nirvana. Smith was angry for the critics of the album "Wils Mood Swing", saying taht all the critics was in the way that The Cure was mythical band and they didnt understand the changes? "Wild Mood Swings", it was a bad record at all, the dark words were there and the music sounds like a semi acoustic-psocodelya; Inclusive more brightness than in "Wish", but it was an standard record of a mythical band. So The Cure has the obligation to work again and in a better material, and especially after four years of doing nothing. |

The music changes so much in the end of the nineties, the grunge was the fashion at that time in USA, the sounds wre worst with the Hip-Hop; The new audiences only want to hear new beats and a potential sounds. In the other side bands like U2 & Radio Head wre the kinks of the most traditional audiences that view the 80s as a sad re-members, that sold people of bad "quality" as Madonna & Michael Jackson. The Cure was suspended in the space; Robert Smith couldnt compete with the pain of Kurt Corbain or the sadness of Tom Yorke, even with the charisamtic Bono; Or the comedy of Marilyn Manson. In comparision with them, Smith was only an unhappy man; Who in this way forgot the new roots of music. This time it seems to be the end of The Cure, that so many times Robert Smith announce. In 1996 Smith recived an invitation from David Bowie, one of his musical heroes for participate in a special concert to clebrate his first middle century, the song taht Smith sang with Bowie were, "The Last Thing You Should Do" & "Quicksand"; during this celebration. Smith made a friendship with ReevesGabrels, guitarrist of David Bowie since 1979; Who promises Smith to record a song with him, who see the ligh in the autumn of 1997; The Cure beguines to recuperate the audiences with the record "Galore" and it was a compilation of old hits. But who cares, if it were so fucking greats! The new compilation has a new track called "Wrong Number" in collaboration with Gabrels. All the work of The Cure in 1995 was only compilations, the last resource of the famous bands of the eighties. For the film "The X Files", they recorded "More Than This" and "The World In My Eyes" for the "Masses", a tribute for Depeche Mode a band when in the begun, Smith didnt liked too much. Smith, Cooper and Reeves with the pseudonym "COGASM", recorded "A Sign From God", for the film of Trey Park, "Orgasm", creator of the series "South Park", a favorite one of Smith. |
