Boeing B-29A Superfortress
"Lucky 'Leven"  498th Bombardment Group

1/48 scale Monogram model

The best strategic bomber of all during WW2 was the B-29 Superfortress.  The aircraft ended the war with the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  The decision to use B-29s exclusively in the Pacific theatre was made near the end of 1943, and in the spring of 1944 they began arriving at bases in India and China.  Missions against Japan became increasingly frequent during  the summer of 1945, with the B-29s operating from new bases which were established on the Mariana Islands.  These raids contributed in a decisive manner to the destruction of the Japanese industrial machine and the sapping of the civilian population's morale.  This particular aircraft flew 60 missions over Japan between November 1944 and August 1945.
