Next themed album was "Four seasons of love" and in some ways was the least successful of Donna's 1970's albums. But it contains her most typical disco song of all, "Spring affair" - everything is right, the wild bassline, pounding beat and streaking violins. "Winter Melody" from this album was the first commercial 12" single to be released on the Casablanca label.
"I remember yesterday" album was the big one for the UK, with "I feel love". Now regarded as an electro classic, it's another Giorgio Moroder production. The album was themed as a journey through time. "I remember yesterday" was the 1930's song, the 1950's was "Love's unkind" and the 1970's one "Take me". "I feel love" was designed to be the 1990's, and it couldn't have been more right, having been remixed and sampled numerous times over the years.
Single release "Down deep inside" was John Barry's theme for the film "The Deep". Next album, "Once upon a time" was a double album with a little story. Songs to listen for on this album include the strong "I love you", "Rumour has it", "Fairytale high", "Faster and faster to nowhere", and the title track.
Donna is next found on the soundtrack to the disco film "Thank God it's Friday" singing "Last dance" and "With your love". She also "acts" in the film although many think she should stick to singing.
The next album was a live compilation of her previous hits (some much speeded up), plus her full length version of "MacArthur Park" / "One of a kind" / "Heaven knows", the former giving her her first US No. 1 hit (and it deserves it). "Heaven Knows" was recorded with Brooklyn Dreams (vocalist Bruce Sudano was Donna's husband). 1979 was the biggest year for Donna, with 10 weeks in total at No. 1 in the US, along with two platinum and three gold singles. "Hot Stuff" was originally written for Cher to sing, believe it or not... that, along with "Bad Girls" and "Dim all the lights" formed the backbone of her "Bad Girls" double LP.
Her final 1970's LP, "On the Radio" was a mixed collection of many of her previous hits, along with two new songs, "On the Radio" and "No more tears (Enough is enough)", her duet with Barbara Streisand - two more disco classics. First album of the 1980's coincided with a change in label and musical direction. Don't buy it - it pales into insignificance when alongside the disco heaven of "Love to love you baby".
