| Chapter 4 |
| I say uncomfortably sipping a soda listening in on the conversation Shane was having with his friend Mike. "Shane, what's up with this girl?" He leaned in to whisper. "Man, I'm so tired of these same old girls." Shane explained directing his comment toward Missy and Tiffani who sat across from me adjusting their make-up, "No personality, no brains. Just boobs and makeup. Maggie is different. I don't know quite how to explain it, but I like it." I grinned a little bit hearing their conversation. "Are you ready to go?" Shane asked sitting next to me. I nodded my head and stood up. "You can drop me off at the corner." I said sheepishly not wanting him to see my messy home. "I'm not going to just, drop you off on a dark corner at midnight. Where's your turn." He argued driving past the corner. I sulked quietly and pointed toward the left. I thanked him and entered my humble home. I figured after seeing my rusted trailer and trashed surroundings, he wouldn't ever call me again. "Where's dad?" I shook Brian awake as I switched off the television. "He's in bed, came home drunk and crashed." He said sleepily. I pulled the shoes off his feet and covered him with a blanket walking back into my room. I layed in bed dreaming of somewhere far away from where I was, somewhere away from everything I had known. *** *** *** I folded salami between two slices of bread for my dad when the phone rang. "Hello?" I asked quickly trying to finish making the lunch. "Who is it?" My dad grunted. "Um...It's work, they have some questions." I lied grabbing a beer out of the fridge for him. "Oh well hurry up with my food." I handed him his meal and took my call outside. "Sorry about that. Who is this?" I asked still confused. "This is Shane. I was just wondering if you wanted to go to a movie or something tonight?" I was shocked that he called and even more shocked that he asked me out again. "Sure." *** *** *** "Look...Shane..." I started hesitantly turning my back to him," I don't think we should see each other anymore." |
