I took my 9 year old daughter with me this time, and she actually had a great time! She thinks that a convertible beetle would be a great car for her when she is old enough to drive. I told her she'd better have a great job by then, cuz Daddy's not paying for it!
It was mostly a cloudy day for Father's Day 2002, and it poured rain almost all the way to the show, but magically stopped about 5 miles from the Harwinton Fairgrounds in Connecticut. My Westy was gagging a bit on some of the hills getting there, but we made it. At one point, I was on a two lane road with a long no-passing zone, in 2nd gear climbing a hill, with five cars backed up on my bumper. Four of them were old VWs, and were being kind and patient with me. One was a Chevy pickup, which finally crossed the double yellow and sped by angrily, as the driver stared at me with contempt. Oh well, going 18 in a 45mph zone just isn't for everyone!
Here are some shots from the event. They include some of the coolest VWs I've seen yet.

What a 78 should look like.
