| to me the funanimal co-motion is a bunch of things and is not about as many things. this is my thought rite now, as I type, this is not a manifesto nor even a vision. & this is what makes the Co-Motion the Co-Motion. thanks! the Co-Motion is a chance for me to hear my friends' music, and if I am lucky, even to help other people hear my friends' music. It (we) are a collection of friends from the get-go, from the birth of time. For me, hearing a friend's song and knowing a lil of how they are feeling and dealing and how they get this stuff out, is a blessing. this, most important, is why we had the idea of the Co-Motion in the first place, to convince a friend to let more friends hear his music. the Funanimal is not something I do b/c I like my friends' music (I should probably state that I love all the music we have put out so far, and I continue to adore the tunes we write, but...), I want to participate in this b/c they are my friends whom I care deeply about. Just as if one of my pals was making a helicopter, I would want to help. (i.e. love of friend + some interest in helicopters = the Fly Fly Heart Helicopter Team). the Co-Motion is fun! its getting together to write good songs, to record them, to draw pictures ont he front, to cut and paste and piece together and chit-chat and sing while we do. this is something we share. We are not a CD duplication company, nor are we a faceless company who sees our "artists" (do you like to be called that? I don't.) once in a while at lavish parties thrown by us. We want to put out the music of our friends, not just kids we know, not just kids we used to know, not just grapes on a vine. the Funanimal Co-Motion is the Funanimal Co-Motion. We are, we are... a group of friends chillin' (w/ or w/o chill pills!) and making records b/c we think records are neat, b/c we have songs we need to get up and out, b/c we get bored and need to create something. We are not anyone else. We are not a validator, the next __ Records, a force in the local seen, a recognizable entity, or a tangible anything. Again, this is what it is to me. On the flipside, if this was anything else, I would want out & I would leave quite gracefully. thank you to everyone that I talk about this to and a much smaller thanks to those who read it. |

| a Funanimal is dead or dying. with the monumentous release of the big big compilation and what i see as the subsequent failure of the label to fulfill our label thing's mission statement in a way that makes me feel like the mission is worth having, i have decided to call it quite quit. thanks for being there. plus, everyone is still making music and so nothing actually changed. its just that i'm not gluing things and burning copies anymore. angela and chris are gonna keep on kickin though. |
