I have been reading about the Chinese Generators for sometime and their use with RV's. I decided to purchase the Propower 3500 that is sold by Pep Boys. I was planning to change the windings so that the they were in parallel so they would provide 30 Amps @ 120 Volts rather than 15 Amps @ 240 Volts. As it turned out Pep Boys had changed to the generator above which has the same Honda knock-off engine but is already wired with a twist on 120 Volt 30 Amp plug or two 120 Volt 20 Amp plugs.
In the picture above I plugged a 20 Amp adapter into one of the 120 Volt 20 Amp recepticals on the generator and my 30 Amp Shoreline cable into the adaqpter. I was able to run my 15,000 BTU airconditioner with no problems. I didn't have any other heavy loads on, i.e. microwave, TV, Refrigerator, etc.
An RV adapter was constructed using the twist on connector provided with the generator and a 30 Amp female plug for the RV connection. This gives me the full 30 Amps of the generator to be used by the RV.
The generator is very quiet as compared to contractor generators and while not as quiet as the Honda and Yamaha units that cost hundreds more that the $319.00 I paid for this unit. The fit and finish is very nice and the electrical wiring is very tidy. Looks like pretty good bang for the buck. |
